I set this up because it is tough to look behind you in VR.  I've found it is nice to be able to swivel around in my gaming chair.  The only compromise is that I use the stick twist for rudder instead of any pedals which would hold me fixed into place.  I mounted the stick and throttle offset to the point of maximum comfort for my arms and hands.  I put grip tape on the bottom to hold it into place.  I've got $100 into the Gladitator, $50 into the X52, and $10 into the board.  Both controllers are actually pretty good for the money.  Really happy so far!

It just sits on my lap.  I use grip tape on the bottom so it doesn't slip on my pants.

Very nice.

I hate it when my chair is not fixed to the floor and I missed brakes on my chair.

The optimal solution I found is a old pair of shoes. I just put two of the rollers in the shoes and the chair is stable.

Other than that my current setup is similar. I just stopped to use my saitek throttle because the gladiator is so convinient and in DCS I use the clickable cockpits.

My VR setup looks like this. I used TV arms with a joint, they're meant to be mounted to a pole but instead they're mounted to the arms of an office chair. I bolted some pieces of wood to them and covered them with velcro. They can be rotated around behind the chair while not in use. I also replaced the chair's wheels with ones that have brakes so the chair can be fixed in place while in VR. I have a USB button box that was meant for iRacing, and a Logitech throttle quadrant which has some custom knobs which I 3d printed and then spray painted.

Those cable ties are a good (cheap) idea, I'm thinking I should put some to work for me, too.  <g>

This is where I fly, I use two VESA mounts for the hotas. The chair is an IKEA Markus
