Hey guys, I have my games bought at the site. But recently a friend gifted me Battle of Bodenplatte over steam.. I cant even accept the game due I'm missing the base game.
But I have BOS but over the site..is there a way to activate it on steam as well or to connect the account somehow ?
I did trying connecting my steam account to the site but due im missing the game on my steam so I cant connect it.. Any clues on how to resolve the issue ?

Nope. In order to use any Steam content for IL-2 you need to buy BoS (Stalingrad) from Steam. After that you can mix-and-match as you like. But you will not see Steam bought content on IL-2 site and you don't see IL-2 site bought content on Steam. You need to use Steam launcher for the game.

This said, in-game you will see all the content you bought anywhere as long as you register to IL-2 site with your Steam account (during first launch of the game through Steam).

Clear enough? Also ignore all threads here about linking the accounts. The procedure above is really the only one that works. And no, you won't see the Steam bought games ribbons under your avatar on the forums, only the ribbons from games bought from IL-2 site. I made the mistake of going Steam before knowing about all options...

What about seeing your name under the banners ingame, as in your name, as i only bought BOS and BOK on steam but not on the IL-2 site.

I cant seem to link my account regardless, i posted a reply on the thread here about the issue

@Gunter_Severloh So just to be sure, you have an account at the main site? I'm not talking about the forums:

https://il2sturmovik.com/account/

Logoff and logon from there in order to verify that you are using the correct e-mail and password for the IL2sturmovik.com site (again not the forums).

Ya i have one on the main site, both usernames are the same as pw'ds.

Ok i did that, it checks out fine, i login back in with no issues, game wise i uninstalled it and am reinstalling it atm, suppose i wait til its done and

retry the login.  So forum user name and login are independent or separate from the site then correct?

I mean i could just delete my account on the site and create a new one through the game when it asks you too,

maybe that will link the account? I mean get my name showing up under the banners at the top right on the menu instead of player numbers.

In fact now that I checked my forum profile and clicked on the account it took me to the main site. So they are linked. Just to check, my login for the account is my e-mail address. Then the profile name is Nadelbaum. When I link the account from the game (launched through Steam) I had to use my e-mail address and password for the site. I don't think it accepts your forum name "Gunter_Severloh".

Digging up an old thread i replied to in 2020, i have a new question.

Is there a reason why BOS and BOK game & DLC banners arent showing under my avatar here on the forum?

I bought in 2020 BOS, and BOK on steam.

I bought at same time BOM, BOBP, FC vol.1, and TC cap on the IL-2 website store.

Heres a screenshot of what i have ingame on the menu:

That's the reason right there :)

The banners only show products you bought at the website, not those you bought from Steam. The website has no knowledge of purchases you made on Steam. Something to do with data protection/ privacy regulations, IIRC.

Ya that makes sense but then why am i complaining about this now when BOS and BOK were under my avatar on Saturday,

Sunday comes around when i come back to visit make a post and their gone.

I can login to steam through the IL2 website np, theres no issues with either or, so it makes no sense to me all a

sudden why they were there before but now there not.

I wouldn't have said anything about BOS and BOK not being there before as i have been on and off the

forum here since 2020 same with the game, but obviously their not there.

I had submitted a ticked to support on sunday, maybe they could explain technically what is the issue if there is one.

If anything it turns out that BOS and BOK dont show because as you said i dont have the game through the website

then since theres a huge sale going on, i figured i could help support the company and buy some more games anyways.

We can sync both accounts the website and steam together and the games you bought either on the website, or steam

both show up listed in the game on the menu hence my screenshot, so if the games can sync like that, why cant the

banners or game emblems if you will not show too.

Salutations,

I am SO GLAD that I didn't purchase anything concerning IL2 from Steam. My condolences to those of you that did. ?

If you bought those two on Steam and not on the website, they were never on your avatar. The banners only show for products bought on the website, simple as that. You must be mistaken about them showing up before.

The game knows about both accounts, the website doesn't. The game starts from Steam, from which it's told which Steam products you bought. Then it logs in to the website, from which it's told which website products you bought. Hence, the game knows about all products you bought, no matter where you bought them. There's no data sharing between Steam and IL2, and data protection rules make it hard to implement any such thing in a lawful manner. If the only disadvantage of the current solution is that you won't be able to see your BOS and BOK banners, while it does circumvent data protection and privacy regulations, then frankly it's a no-brainer to take that solution.

Thad, is it really necessary to bring up your personal beef with Steam in a thread that isn't even about any Steam issues? For what it's worth, I am glad I *did* buy BOS from Steam. Never had any problems with it, and definitely none of the current issues with the website installer.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. In general, if someone already uses Steam I'd advise to buy BOS from Steam, and vice versa. Depending on the person, they're both good solutions. Let's not falsely pretend either of them is perfect while the other is rubbish, OK?

I have no personal  beef with Steam. I purchased nothing from them related to IL2, especially after reading problem after problem after problem etc. from Steam IL2 users. So, once again, I'm very GLAD to have avoided Steam.

Is there any particular reason you feel the need to share with us how very glad you are to not use Steam, while having no personal experience with IL2 on Steam? It adds very little to the discussion.

Thanks for the clarification AEthelraedUnraed. ?

As for Thad's comment, i myself have been on steam since 2004, have bought most of my games on steam except for a few.

For IL-2 i never had an issue with steam, only thing i ran into was the syncing part initially where you had to

sync your account on the IL-2 website, and steam to see the games on steam, and that was just a matter of knowing what to do.

Game plays fine, so any steam issues can be a number of things, and that would vary from person to person idk exactly

what issues you heard that others were having with IL-2 but it happened to them, and its not an everybody who runs

the game on steam deals with it whatever it was.

Lets not derail the subject and turn this into a steam sucks thread, i been there on those threads BI forums

with Arma3 which btw the game is only on steam, and that game i have over 5,500hrs in as that is what i mainly play

so i know how steam works. Cheers!

Yes, to dissuade any new prospective IL2 purchasers from obtaining it from Steam in order to avoid needless annoying problems or complications.

Plus Steam takes a financial cut of the simulations purchase price. I'd much rather the developers receive all the funds for their product from their site.

If you are under the mistaken impression that only Steam suffers from annoying issues and complications, you only need to take a look around the Technical Issues forum. In fact, most of the recent threads have to do with the website installer rather than Steam.

If you want to dissuade people from buying from Steam, you're very welcome to start your own thread. However please stop spamming in threads that have nothing to do with Steam issues. It adds nothing at all to the discussion and is only annoying.

Firstly, check the OP forum title and post. I'm not spamming at all.

Secondly, I never stated or implied that only Steam suffers from issues or complications.

Thirdly, I have over a dozen games that I purchased through Steam. But not for IL2.

Finally, I am fed up and bored with addressing this and will not comment further. ?
