Is it me being impatient or does the release of the Hurricane seems to be taking a long time ?

I agree, as I'm itching to get my hands on that combat veteran and take her up for a spin.  Hope it happens soon!

Yes indeed, if we consider that the announcement was made on november 25 !

IIRC Yak9 is supposed to be released before the Hurricane. And there haven't been any cockpit, model with skin or game-engine screenshots of the Hurricane.

I wholeheartedly agree, can't wait for this bird to arrive in our hangars.

The Hurricane is far from being my favorite airframe, but for some reason I'm impatiently itching to finally get my hands on this plane.

I really appreciate that the devs are giving us a wide variety of different loadouts (seemingly 5 different gun configurations alone), making the plane not only versatile, but also making it become available for user created western front content, especially in hindsight of the coming chanel map.

I really feel like the little Hurricane is gonna have some huge impact onto our favorite sim.

I can't believe that in very short order we will have our hands on the Hurricane - Typhoon - Tempest lineup. That's a career progression I need in my life. And exactly what @Fritz_X said, some 1940-41 scenarios (hopefully in multiplayer) on the new map will be amazing!

o/t but related; we should hopefully see a Typhoon in the air again here in the UK by 2024, how cool is that>! And the team who are doing that already have ther next project lined up - restoring a Tempest!

My personal hopes are high for a may release of both Yak-9 and Hurri. Let´s see what the month will bring to us.

I really don't want to be negative here, but I honestly can't see this happen (as much as I'd like to!).

Everyone feel free to correct me, but if I'm not mistaken the roadmap says that both the Yak-9 and the P-47 Razorback are going to be released after each other but before the Hurricane. Not sure if we're going to wittness the release of three new planes within just one month...

I do feel like the wait for new content will soon be over. If I had to guess, the Yak-9 is going to be launched shortly after the end of the current sale on May 8th ?

If I  remember correctly there is a post by Devs indicating the following release order:

- Yak 9/9T

-P47 Razorback

- Hurricane.

Can't find the post though.

Quite recently one of the announcements referred to the P47 as the next to be released so I think the Yak-9 is second.

ADDENDUM

I think I was referring to this

Quote

The list of the squadrons that will be recreated in the Battle of Normandy Career mode and its main scenario are prepared as well. Visual models of the three aircraft and the FM of the first one (P-47D-22) are in the works

but that is probably just saying the P47D is first of the BoN aircraft to be released.  It is still possible the Yak-9 will come first.

I like the Hurricane from an historical standpoint.  Although it will bring nothing further to the series with regards to gameplay.   You can do exactly the same things in any number of existing aeroplane shapes already.

It will bring 12 x .303 to the game.

That works for me.

That and an ineffable (it can't be effed, you know) sense of style, grace and sophistication. Anyone can look glamorous in a Spitfire, it takes class to do so in a Hurricane...

And its a dedicated brown & green coloured aeroplane too I suppose.  We don't have one of those already.

I kind of understand where you are coming from, yet I find this statement rather harsh.

Yes, gameplay wise there would be more interesting options, like medium sized bombers and transports for both Allies and Soviets. But as much as I want to see those myself, I feel for the devs, having to work on a tight budget, where a wrong business decision can easily lead into bankruptcy.

Flyable B-25, B-26, IL-4, C-47 / Li-2, I would buy all of them in a heartbeat if available. Even though I'm neither a bomber nor a transport flyer (my Ju-52 collected alot of dust...). But are there enough of other flyers out there who enjoy these kind of planes or are, just like me, willing to buy them anyway, to make this financial venture a vailable one? I sure hope so...

For now, we have to live from what the devs are giving us. And I think that when it comes to planes that can be used in quite a few different roles and places, the Hurricane is just a perfect addition.

I've been keeping track of official sources on what is coming (and when if we can find out):

https://stormbirds.blog/product-roadmaps/il-2-great-battles-roadmap/

Yak-9 is the most complete by the developer diary and also the first aircraft that Jason said would release. Then we'll get the Yak-9T and then the P-47D-22 after that.

Pardon me for being less than informed, but is the Yak-9 just a better Yak-1bs127?

(Which is fine with me if it is the case.)

I am curious to see how the two stack up. Though they are slightly different versions modeled versus what we had in IL-2: 1946, they are very close to each other in terms of absolute performance. The Yak-9 comes from the Yak-7 line and will feel a little more like that aircraft versus the Yak-1B. I know a couple of people who don't like flying the Yak-1B but think the Yak-7B is great so the subtle things may pan out to be bigger for some people.

Historically they are interesting because the Yak-1B is the ultimate of the Yak-1 line before it became the Yak-3 and the Yak-9 is the more refined version of the Yak-7 line. Built at different factories but with a converging and then diverging design. The Yak-9T is an expression of where the more robust Yak-9 airframe could go with the 37mm cannon in the nose.

Ask and thou shalt receive. Thanks.

It's funny, for my part I don't enjoy the Yak-7 that much and almost never fly it,  but I love the Yak-1B. Definitely to each his own. Maybe I'll try the -7 out a bit more.

To finish today's diary, let's add some nice pictures to the mix - this time they are the Yak-9 cockpit shots captured in the game. Its texturing is nearly final while the development of its FM is progressing at a full speed. We hope it will be available to you in early Summer."

And then you have to have P-47D-22 and after it Hurricane if their plan is still same as it was in January 2020.

So i expect Hurri at end of Summer at best.

That is good to know as I have bought the Yak-9T rather than the Yak-9. I was worried that the T version would be delayed until after some of the others had been released.  I bought the T because historic reports seem to show it flies almost the same as the Yak-9 but as my flying and gunnery is so bad I need to make sure that on the rare occasions I get someone in my sights for a second then I do the maximum damage.:-)

Incidentally,  I am one of those strange people that prefers the Yak-7b.  The 1b is a fantastic fighter but I find the slightly harder hitting guns of the 7b are more useful than the slightly better rear view of the 1b and the lower ammo count is irrelevant as I don't get many firing opportunities per sortie anyway ?

It's very interesting to me and I love that we have some of these seemingly minor version differences because it's surprising how differently people can find their experiences. The Yak-7B and Yak-1B, when you look at the numbers are very very similar but put them into the hands of virtual pilots and the experience qualitatively can be so different. Will love to know how people interact with these new Yak's when they come.

I'm a huge fan of Yak fighters so they are automatically going to be something I fly a lot of in the near future!

Me also, the -7b is my favourite Soviet ride. And she's the ugly sister of the -1b, much like the Hurricane is to the Spit.

I do not know, this is my opinion and probably just a bunch of “feelings”

I fly the 7 because it resemble as a Hurricane in my mind. This is why I bothered to fly it in the first place.
ugly yes , but I shoot better with it and are in general doing better with the 7 than 1b.
I find it more stable , easier and faster to get stable enough after violent maneuvers in a dogfight for getting a shot. I simply prefer it among the yak

Well! I see you and I are going to have words.

The Yak-b1 is graceful, sweet, delicious even. And the style of the plane, and the manner in which a gentleman flies it, are in tune with its modest ammunition capacity which speaks to the truth that that those who fly the Yak-1b do not require an excess of ammunition. We hit what we aim at.

The Yak-7 is merely the ugly sister with industrial kneepads.

The merits of a sister, even an ugly one, who requires industrial kneepads, should hardly need spelling out at this point.

I'd take that over the  'graceful, sweet and delicious' sister any day.

Just noticed a post from Petrovich (posted a few weeks ago) on the Russian forum that the Yak-7b FM will be getting a revision along with work on the Yak-9 FM. No details about what will be changed.

A little Dickie bird told me the release is held up on account of the lack of handle bar moustaches so until enough of the community grow  one and the handle bar mostaches reach critical mass the Hurricane will only then explode into existance in a furball...what what!

Bad news. Lockout has been extended for those aged over 65. The Hurricane at 85 is in the very risky category.

Jason has to keep him safe inside the UK hangar for another two months I suppose.

He may be freed in summer July or August to test fly over the channel  beaches (those that will be open in France).

All this will depend when the UK government will set the date for F-Day, (Freedom Day) in absolute secrecy.

We may not know until just the day before at midnight. ?
