KylerHolland Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Hello, pilots! First of all, yes, I know 109 is not a good ground attacker. However, I just want to get familiar with bombing. I equipped my 109 with a 250kg bomb with 3 sec delay and I noticed a new device in a cockpit. Is it just an eye candy or you can toggle something regarding bomb setup? So far, it seems like the only thing I can do is just drop the bomb with an assigned key. I tried to drop the bomb while being on the ground and it did not explode. I also tried to drop a bomb right after the take off and it did not explode as well. Dropped the bomb on the target - boom! I feel like do not understand how it works and there is no useful tutorial about it. Can anyone please explain briefly how bombing works?
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 A bomb needs time to arm after being dropped. It will never go off sitting on the ground. With 3 sec delay it may not go off if dropped to low. 5 sec delay will go off on the deck. Used to use 5, now use 3. 1
Lusekofte Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) There are tutorials here from devs on how to drop bombs. If I fly a IL 2 I hit targets in level flight in any altitude up to 100 meters just by nature. Shallow dive no problem. But in FW 190 almost never. Same with p 38 , a bit better but meeh. You have to fly a plane long time to be able to figure out speed, angle of attack and distance if not following a set speed snd altitude. I read Fw 190 fighterbombers flew low over tanks in a set speed. Dropping once tanks met the propeller. Edited April 18, 2020 by 216th_LuseKofte 1

I looked at the tutorials section here and did not find that kind of tutorial. I am sure it is there, but seems hard to find. Can you please post a link? I would appreciate that!

Although it doesn't move yet when arming/unarming bombs it does tell you what kind of delay you have set on your bombs. On the left you have MV sturz, which will be selected if you have a 1 or 2 sec delay. The right side you have Mv Wagerect, which will be selected if you have 3, 5, 10, or 15 sec delay. OV, bottom right, will be selected if you have contact. Axis, for bombing tanks (250kg and below) I use a 1 sec delay. For all else, including allies, you can set it to 5 sec delay. To practice bombing, set your realism to having bomb aiming selected. This can then be turned on/off while flying with RControl I. You can then just go into a quick mission, takeoff or start at altitude and start bombing the targets around the airfield or others that you have selected (ships, tanks, etc) The helper will show up and will give you an idea when to drop the bomb depending on what approach and speed you are at. Then practice with the helper off. Take different bomb loads and take note of the light panel you have also. Also go to an external view and watch from where and what order your bombs are dropped and how the lights correspond. Edited April 20, 2020 by Plurp 2 1
KylerHolland Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 Thank you @Plurp, fantastic answer! Very helpful! I will do that!
