blue_max Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Hello, I got a whole bunch of my friends to buy the game this week with the sale. Great. But we're not the best players tbh, so no way we can make it to the finish line as a group. If someone crashes on take-off, ok, we can re-start the mission. But if someone crashes halfway through, or bites the first bullet that's being fired... it's just frustrating. Such an amazing game, but this not so small detail is really holding us back. Can't be to hard to add I imagine? Cheers, Benjamin
VSN_Razor Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 You can simply click on finish mission, select the airfield and plane and you are good to start again. Or do you mean some other type of respawn?
blue_max Posted April 12, 2020 Author Posted April 12, 2020 Yes, when you host a dogfight server.., but in coop? That doesn't work for me! I need to spectate, or join as a gunner (which never shows any join-able airplanes). After browsing the forums a bit I understood it was a limitation of the way MP is set up.

In my opinion it would be more straight forward if the 'coop' and 'dogfight' modes would be renamed along the lines of 'one live' and 'respawn'. DD_FT- Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Limitation? No. It's just the way it works... Well, that's my take on it. This way a coop is more like "real life"... There is a goal, go after it. If you mess up - too bad. You're out, you'll have to wait for the next mission - (That part is not like "Real Life" ... lol) Converting Coops to Dogfight is a good workaround. Still, the option of a re-spawn might still make your pil2ots feel they do not need to be that careful ... One life may/will do that! I've created plenty of Coop missions for IL2 1946... and in the end, converted some Coops into Dogfight mode. And even designed them that way. For really long missions this was perfect. For sure, your pilots need to read the brief, and follow up. Missions running for like a max of three hours, take off and target about 90 minutes away from each other. Spawn points at about 20-30 minutes in between, any late joiners being told where to spawn in, and when to join the main force. Same for the ones experiencing mishaps. We did a lot of those, and the main achievement to me always was: Who of us made it out there and back in the very same air-frame? Mission points did not matter there... (Picture this one: Target Brest: t/o from SW England, fly to Brest to attack U-Boat penns, Beaufighters with torpedoes at low level, B17 from like contrail altitude - Spitfires and Lightnings fly escort... For sure you do not want anyone to use the spawn point close to Brest at the start of the mission, but you do love it when one of your mates can use it after being killed by AAA to give it one retry, to go at it once more and then still fly the long way home...) It's my main frustration with the mission editor here, have not gotten the grips of it. Would not know how to create missions like that . I do blame Syn_Vander's Easy Mission Generator for that, partially - as it takes away a lot if the pressure to create missions for our squadron At the moment it is so brilliant there's no real need for me to create the complex missions!! 1
blue_max Posted April 13, 2020 Author Posted April 13, 2020 yeah, but if Il-2 ever wants to be less of a ultra niche game, it'll just have to cater to those people like me and my friends, who don't have the time and/or attention span to spawn half an hour away from each other, just to mess up in a bad stall, and then spawn way over somewhere else again. It's just not... fun? And that's what we're after here. Fun!
