Pea_Shooter Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 (edited) What's the trick? Dropping these bombs while being too close to the ground results in no explosions. So, it means dropping them from a higher altitude means my accuracy is way off and misses the target.. Any tips? Edited March 22, 2020 by Pea_Shooter
J2_Drookasi Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Tip 1: Set your timer (before entering the plane) at 5 seconds. If you set it on 'contact' the detonator has no time to arm if you drop being too low. Tip 2: Exercise approaching your target from 400m, then when almost over it dive, release at 100m and start evasive manoeuvres. This usually is very effective for me. Mind you I am not an experienced bomber pilot, others might have more tips , but the above work.
1PL-Lucas-1Esk Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 In R/L, you'd need at least 100-150 meters to have your bomb armed. I am writing about 12,5 kg German PuW. Same with the Cooper bomb. It had a small propeller at front which had to rotate to arm the bomb. The PuW had an intertia fuse and had to rotate on its own before the fuse would be armed. The best way to check it, is to create a quick mission with some tanks and trucks. You can even record some track (ctrl +R) to watch it and analyze later. Approach your target with a 45 deg dive. Depending on the weight of the bomb, the moment you should release it is different. 1
J2_Trupobaw Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Didn't the 12,5 PuW had the second impact-detonator on a side precisely to detonate if the promary did not arm?

Pea_Shooter Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 Why is it that the coopers bombs do not explode, even when dropped at 300 meters?

Other fuses will work from much higher altitude. Keep in mind, that if you will drop a bomb from a very low alt, lik 15 meters, it will not explode, too. 1
