Hi all,

I don't seem able to start IL-2 in VR any longer. It worked previously without any problems, but looks like some update somewhere has caused an issue.

I starts to load, and fires up Steam VR (the small overlay is visible and shows everything is connected), but then the little red progress bar at the bottom moves along to about the 5% position and never moves from there.

I've checked my kit (Rift S) is okay in other apps and it works fine in Aerofly FS2, X-Plane 11, Project Cars 2 etc.

I've got the most recent versions of everything I can think of, e.g. Oculus, Steam VR, IL-2 itself, Windows, NVidia drivers. I notice there have been updates to almost all of those things over the past week or so, so it's tricky to isolate what might have caused it.

Done the usual re-boots, disconnect and reconnect everything (even though VR is fine in other stuff), but still gets stuck in IL-2. IL-2 works fine in non-VR.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Regards,

Mark

I switched to Opencomposite and don’t use SteamVR anymore. That pretty much solved all my connection problems. Better frame rates for sure.

Thanks, I shall take a look.

Can this run with Steam installed? I've a ton of Steam games, so removing Steam completely isn't really an option for me.

You just install it straight over SteamVR. I’m not sure if it applies to all installed games but I believe it reverts to SteamVR as soon as you uninstall. Check the readme, I installed months ago and never looked back.

Ah okay, thanks. Just took a look and I see there's a "per game" method, so I'll give that a go. Looks easy enough to roll back if needed. Thanks for the tip - I'll try it out in a bit.

Thanks again @Jaegermeister

The per-game method didn't work for me, but the installer method did - now back in VR skies in IL-2 ?

OpenComposite is probably safe to use for most Steam games, and it gives you a little performance boost. Basically it cuts out the middleman that is SteamVR and allows the game to go more directly from game to the Oculus API. I use it as a complete replacement for SteamVR (but having said that, most of my VR games have Oculus native versions).
