Your game takes too much space!

IMO IL-2 isn't that big. DCS takes nearly 150gb on my computer so i can't really compain about IL-2. And what if you could select what titles to install in IL-2? Invisible planes and objects because you don't have some title(s) installed? Or should devs use their limited resources and time to make simplified models just because you are running out of space? SSD's are really cheap nowadays anyway. Just bought 500gb SSD and it was about 130€

I have bought four of your modules (games). And now when I reinstalled I don't have any more space to install the game.
I have an SSD with 111 GB, and after a clean windows install and that since your game now takes 51(!!!)GB on my hard drive I don't have enough space to install it.

Can you please do so that I can choose which modules / games to install? Right now I just wants to play Flying Circus and Bodenplatte.

A bunch of 4k skins have been added in the past year and those will be data extensive. Try removing them from the game folder into another drive and see if that helps.

Move the skins to a different, cheaper drive. Check this post:

I originally had over 200GB of SSD, now that's dropped to less than 5%. I'm trying to delete what I can so I have enough space for the new Microsoft 2020 flight sim.

A request that would favor the OP would be to have the option of downloading a map in a module that one does NOT have when it's released. E.g. If you don't have FC, or TC, or like BOBP, then you have option of not downloading the, Arras map, Prokhorovka map, etc maps. on modules that you don't have. But you can still fly against those planes/tanks in the game.

SSD's with low free space also drop in performance (https://pureinfotech.com/why-solid-state-drive-ssd-performance-slows-down/).

Is that your only disk?

Since purchasing BoS a while back, I've barely used it. There are a few reasons for that which I won't go into here, but I arrived in this thread after being dismayed at its disk space usage.

Since I fly this sim rarely, whenever I do decide to launch it, there's usually a huge update. So I go fly something else instead of waiting. Recently, my near 1TB HDD ran out of space while getting the latest 17GB update (or maybe a few updates). I cleared some space and let it finish updating. I noted some interesting facts:

  • When the download had finished and the installation began, I had 11GB space remaining
  • When the installation had finished and the game was ready to play, I had 50GB space remaining

So the updater needed an extra 40GB of space just for caching the update and unpacking? I would understand that if the game were playable with a half-downloaded update, but I can't opt out of an update* like I can with DCS, so seems greedy. Yes, DCS is larger, but DCS only downloads what I own - and I can even choose to uninstall modules I no longer want to use.

*Or can I? I didn't try going offline before launching the game before. Perhaps that's a possibility.
