Questions about Ju52 single player campaign

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Has anyone been consistently successful in Ju52 missions in the campaign? BoM, BoS, or BoK?

I find some missions are okay, where I don't encounter fighters, but it seems every other mission I do.  For instance, in BoM, on my second mission (cargo delivery), I can arrive at the destination airfield and deliver the cargo, but as soon as I take off again, I get jumped by 3 MiG-3s...  it's virtually impossible to complete the mission when this happens.  I have zero fighter cover, and one measly 7.92mm MG for defence.

This has happened multiple times.  Am I missing something? Even if I try to manual aim the rear turret, they just light me up with their cannon.  To top it off, the last one I tried, one of the bastards rammed me...  should I be at high altitude? Low altitude?

I think if the devs made it so that landing was NOT a critical mission objective, it would be fine as I could ditch upon taking damage or divert to another airfield.  However, as it currently stands if I ditch I fail the mission, even though the cargo was delivered to the front lines.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure.  I stopped playing the ju-52 career as the flight times were so extreme.  I was hoping there would be missions where you are detached to other locations and fly shorter runs to local areas, as pilots frequently did.  However they all seemed to be exceptionally long flights from home base to more frontline areas.

Same here. I got about 16 missions into a Moscow career and it became very repetitive and boring, apart from one night paratroop drop mission which was a challenging navigation exercise with all of the GUI nav aids turned off. Only a couple of missions went into enemy territory and all flights were with a sole Ju 52 with no escort.

I've only seen enemy fighters on one mission but they did not engage. Difficulty was set to easy and front line activity set to medium. I usually flew at around 300 M AGL.

I have flown quite a lot career missions with JU 52. I say I done 4 to 7 missions on every timeperiod and map available.
And flown it into battle in Finnish server and combatbox.
I love it to death, like I do with the PO 2. But it is a quite lonely task requiring patience and time.
But I usually pick a bomber online and climb high, This might be the reason I was perfectly alright flying 2 D before. My kind of coffee brake. No fuss no stress. I am used to long time no action.
I haven't encountered problems with fighters at all in careers, I found that boring, but see that as a good thing now. It must be something with the difficult settings.
I honestly think the missions can be made shorter. Even if it is not historical. Same for PO 2. It should be able to land and take off without airfield.

This. Landing on a road is pretty easy but one centimeter next to it you get stuck. This prevents many very interesting missions like evecuating wounded or delivering material to partisans or frontline hospitals. I would love for the U-2 to have this offroad capability. Especially the ability to take off again. And for this purpose a functionality to simulate a ground crew to push the aircraft when on ground would be very cool.

The problem OP brought with getting bounced by fighters and having no chance to survive (partially due to no fighter escort) is what keeps me from playing otherwise interesting bomber or cargo careers. Although I don't know if it is still as bad as I remember it from the old Il2 series.

That was why I was wary of preordering the Po-2 and why I saw little incentive to purchase it later.

Oh still it is quite fun. One only has to adapt to the limitations. I do not regret buying it and maybe the limitations will be gone in the future. Yes the game engine needs a little more flexibilty to really get 100 percent out of this plane but still it is a wonderful product that lets you enjoy flying for the flying itself.

Po 2 is the perfect qmb plane. It is the plane one could afford actually own, it got this barn find feel to it. It give a great feeling of flight and remind me of earlier cessna flights with friends.
I love it. Cannot live without it. QMB will never be the same without it.
JU 52 got potential to be more than it is online.
It should also be able to land on some areas on map. It only needed a short grass but hard flat ground. It should be given a lot of points delivering ammo and retract wounded.

I for one did not mind the long flight times for Ju-52, I usually just put the auto stabilizer on for those, health issues mean I need to anyway for anything taking longer than 20 minutes. The issue with every career mission in this sim is that the enemy AI do not know when to let go, they pursue you to the ends of the earth it seems and as all missions for the Ju-52 are flown alone and with no escort your chance of survival does not last beyond a few flights before your career is over so it gets boring very quickly because of that.

To be honest flying a transport would never be exciting as such, basically a airborne bus, however, they should add a very necessary element to help bring a sense of reality into the sim and allow many varied pilots to partake.

I have totally given up on career, in the European theater it seems even worse than on the Eastern maps and that is even flying a fighter, why, who knows, as it should be the same for all you would think.

The hope was that with the addition of the Ju-52 and Po-2 a much more varied set of missions/campaigns would be available for career but it is not, I very rarely fire up the sim anymore and on the rare occasion I do it is to fly a scripted campaign, community or Black Six made, all are superb, outside of those I stick to my 3d modelling for the old game.

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Yes do that. I am planning to hook up my old computer and use it for old IL 2.
you got the Grumman Duck Lysander and planes we never see. I also muss the SP in that game

There is a lot of impressive stuff been added to the old game since you last used it, compared to the modern version the graphics are dated, however, you will soon get used to it as there are things now available  to vastly improve things.;)

It will be like being reunited with old friends, you will enjoy coming home for a while.:drinks:

My Lysander still has some issues and is nowhere near the quality of the planes here and in other sims but I think it is not too bad for a first 3d aircraft model:

No reason for you not to have the old game on your other PC I think, there is a wealth of SP content so you can move between the best parts of each one of your sims for plenty of immersion and fun.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Oh there is a reason. I got too many usb devices connected. To it I fly DCS and GB and x plane

if I unhook the devices not needed in IL 2 It need total refurbish ment in all other games since they get numerical different than set

IL 2 only acknowledge 3 usb cards

Are you okay Luke?   You look constipated.

I'm perfectly fine. I'm just trying to figure what forward airfields you think Ju 52s should be operating from on the maps that we have, because those airfields are the forwardmost ones that they operated from. They didn't give the plane all that range just for it to fly 10-minute puddle jumps.
