Notice to Pilots

May 2 - Arras Offensive - "Bloody April" ends in Entente Victory

After four weeks of battling weather, shoddy airframe manufacturing, and tough opponents high above and low over the trenches of No Man's Land, the Entente were finally victorious.  Both teams had a chance to win the campaign up to the last day.  Both sides had drawn inconclusive results on 2 of the 6 missions that had been flown with Entente leading Central 3 missions to 1.   In the end, Central fought hard to hold back Entente in the final two missions to inconclusive results but earlier wins by Entente held for the final day with final results as follows:

Entente 3

Inconclusive 4

Central 1

You can see the individual mission results here:  http://stats.jasta5.org:8000/en/?tour=12

Special thanks to J5_Matthias for his mission building, winning Entente commanders 1PL_Lucas and Adler and Central commander J2_Drookasi.  Thank you to everyone in the community who participated and supported the effort.  If you enjoyed your time, please consider supporting the Flugpark project via links here:  http://stats.jasta5.org:8000/en/info/

All pilots participating in this years event are hereby awarded the campaign ribbon.   We are also working to finalize some graphics on individual awards on the parser for the campaign.

Rules Guidance and Clarifications

Rearm/Repair/Refuel

IMPORTANT:  When you R/R/R shut off your engine. After R/R/R completed, restart engine but do not move. Shut off engine a second time and then restart engine. Repair, Rearm twice before taking back off.  This clears a bug that could allow you to take off and not have guns fire or have damage unrepaired causing catastrophic results.

Bombers:

A bomber does not need to return to base in order for the bombing to be credited a success.  Object destruction is registered by the parser.

As noted elsewhere, bombers are not considered “two-seaters” and therefore should R/R/R in order to preserve the airframe.  “Ending Mission” will result in loss of the airframe.  There is a limited supply of bomber airframes.

Artillery Spotting Mission Completion:

*in the event that a plane is lost while returning to base after successfully completing the Artillery Spotting mission, any other pilot may spawn or land at the two-seater base and complete the scoring process (shooting the spotlight in the hangar with handgun without reloading handgun as described in rules elsewhere) in order to ensure points are credited to the side completing the mission.

Winning the Mission and Winning the Campaign

The team winning the most missions will win the campaign.

There will be no more tooltips to watch at the end of the mission and screenshots for commanders to capture.  The scoring data is recorded automatically and the tallying will occur after the mission by parsing the logs for the necessary data points.  Results for each mission will be available within a few minutes of the end of the mission.

To win a mission, one side must meet both of the following criteria:

1.      Score a minimum of 2,000 points during the mission (about 30% of potential points available), AND,

2.      outscoring the opponent by more than 25%.  Otherwise the results in the air and on the ground are considered inconclusive.  The parser indicates a win by displaying a icon of the winning side on the line of the mission on the missions page and keeps track of won missions on the main stats page for the Campaign Tour.

Failure of either side to meet the above two criteria results in the mission being “inconclusive” as neither gained sufficient superiority over the other side to claim clear victory.

A tie will be broken by total points for the entire campaign on each side.

April 18 - Week 2 and Results To Date:

Dusk Mission Mission - Inconclusive as "Bad Weather" set in.

Dawn Mission - Central

Campaign Results To Date -   Entente 1  Central 1

Scores for this weeks two missions are posted on the missions tab found on the Bloody April tour/campaign page here:  http://stats.jasta5.org:8000/en/?tour=12.

Thank you to everyone who endured the "bad weather" halfway through the first mission, which was inconclusive according to the scoring parser.

NOTE:  See April 3 rules update below for update to the rules for how missions are won/lost.

There will be additional guidance/clarification this week regarding

  1. finishing missions correctly for Bombers
  2. insuring points are scored for Artillery Spotting missions where the plane is lost on its way back to base.

April 16 - Call to Arms!   Pilots fit for duty should sign up on their teams weekly flight roster.  If you haven't logged onto the event forum (described below) do so now.  Saturday's mission just around the corner!

Also, there are a few unresolved issues from the prior mission for both sides that are anticipated to alter points scored but not anticipated to alter overall outcomes of the first two missions flown.

Week 1 Results:

Dawn  Mission - Entente

Afternoon Mission - Inconclusive*

Results - Entente 1  Central 0

*point adjustments not affecting the above are anticipated due to mission bugs identified related to a few missions not being credited for points.

April 11 - Per the rules and announcement below, just a reminder there is a Easter Truce.  No campaign mission today.

April 3 - Rule updates/clarifications

Comms channels are limited to five planes per channel x 10 channels = 40 slots to help manage pilots entering server from exceeding each sides slots and to support rules around in flight communications.

There is a briefing channel for each side with a 51 person limit; in flight, players must go into flights channels.

Scoring:
An extra arty spot mission has been added to each side for each mission; update to scoreboard calculator.  Extra 1x300 pts possible for each mission on each side.

To win a mission, one side must meet the following criteria:
Score a minimum of 2,000 points during the mission (about 30% of potential points available) while out scoring the opponent by more than 25%).  Otherwise the results in the air and on the ground are considered inconclusive.  The parser indicates a win by displaying a icon of the winning side on the line of the mission on the missions page and keeps track of won missions on the main stats page for the Campaign Tour.

Ties will be broken by total points for the entire campaign on each side.

March 30 -

Planning Forum Activated - Commanders needed to be selected and confirmed by participating pilots in the Blue and Red Team private planning areas on the J5 forum.

The Bloody April Event Forum is open.  You should see a Private Blue Team or Red Team planning area where you can securely make plans and have discussions for each week.  There is a also a updated link to a private and secure weekly pilot duty roster to sign up to let your team know what time you are able to start flying and end flying.  Missions are from 1730-2330 GMT.

The event planning forum is located here.

Pilot assignments are listed below.  If you registered late, look for your squad mates on the list or friends and fly on that team.  You may need to request membership on the forum to be "let in" to your teams user group to gain access to the private team area.

If you have not read the rules (posted below on March 29) you should be sure to do so, even if this is not your first Bloody April.  This is our first Flying Circus Bloody April (our tenth BA campaign!). so some things are new, although we are trying to keep most things similar to the experience on the Flugpark server.

A few things to know!
-ALL pilots wishing to fly will need to meet on the discord server listed below.  Based on interest levels we expect full flights so be sure to sign up each week on your teams pilot roster on the event forum linked above to reserve your place and avoid disappointment.  There will be a password for this event due to the nature of the event making it difficult to allow random pilots to enter.   Read below for further details...

-Two seater pilots should be sure to read the rules about how to correctly complete, score and finish their two seater missions!
- Fighter/Escort pilots should NOT finish mission after a sortie.  Planes DO NOT go into inventory.  You need to get back to a friendly active base and repair, refuel, rearm and take off again.  Failure to do this will insure your teams defeat when your side runs out of planes!  Completing two-seater missions, your plane, and your life are more important than a kill!   Failure to understand this will mean your personal and team defeat!
-Death Penalty is 60 minutes!  Essentially this is a dead is dead (almost).

Oh, and have fun!  😁

Flying & Fighting

Fame or Flame?

Bloody April X – Flying Circus Edition

March 28 – May 2, 2020

February 22, 2020 - For immediate release - please forward this message to your fellow pilots and link this thread in your forums.

Jasta 5/Schusta 27b is proud to present the WWI Flying Circus community with this year's Bloody April Campaign in Flying Circus!   The campaign is based on the Arras Offensive of late March and April 1917.

The inaugural Bloody April campaign in 2011 was critically acclaimed as the first world-wide Rise of Flight campaign and since then thousands of flight hours have been logged in what became the RoF communities' premiere world-wide annual multiplayer campaign. Depending on the calendar, the campaign runs each year on Saturdays beginning late March- and going through late April or early May.

Official Event Schedule of Events

March 28 - Server Stress Test/Practice Mission – 1730-2330 GMT

March 29-April 3 – Practice Missions on the Flugpark

April 4– Hostilities Commence - Dawn Mission/Afternoon Mission

April 11 – Easter Truce – No Missions

April 18 – Hostilities Continue – Dusk Mission/Dawn Mission

April 25 – Hostilities Continue – Afternoon Mission/Dusk Mission

May 2 – Hostilities Conclude – Dawn Mission/ Afternoon Mission

May 3 - Final Results, Awards and Recognition

Campaign History:
Conceived during the Red Baron 3D days in 2006 by J5_Paul Bäumer and brought to life in Rise of Flight through collaborations with talented Jasta 5 mission builders such as J5_Rumey and J5_Matthias and several talented community members over the years.

Prior Campaign Victories:
2011 - Entente victorious on the last mission of the last day after 12 missions flown over four weekends!
2012 - Tie after over 1,000 flight hours were logged!
2013 - Entente
2014 - Central won in a decisive battle.
2015 - Entente
2016 - Central
2017 - Red Team
2018 - Blue Team
2019 - Indecisive
2020 - ???  Event Moved to Flying Circus

Campaign Developments:
Following in the footsteps of the ground breaking innovative events of previous years, this year's event continues to push the envelope of the currently available planes, features and community mission design in Flying Circus for maximum realism and immersion.  The campaign is a objective focused event. While it is historically based, it cannot be a true historical reenactment.  It will be immersive but not at the expense of enjoyment while continuing its ground-breaking tradition of mission building realism over The Front!

Overview: each week there will be 2 three-hour missions conducted Saturdays at 1730-2030 GMT and 2030-2330 GMT. Using the Flying Circus Flugpark server, there will be plenty of room for everyone to fly in the premiere inaugural Flying Circus Bloody April event!  Draft rules will be posted on this thread!  Block out your flying calendars and start checking your equipment and register in the survey above today!

Updated Rules: Will be posted at a later date updated to reflect the Flying Circus environment.  We anticipate only minor changes from prior years events.

Plane Pipeline: Albatross DVa & Halberstadt CLII vs. Se5a & Bristol II (its all we really have available from the time period) but represents a great match up for both sides!

Please participate in the survey above to register your participation and indicate what team you prefer to fly on.  We will make every attempt to accommodate side requests but pilot team assignment preferences cannot be guaranteed.  Historical units will fly on the same side assigned to their unit.

Every year I think "I will do this again", and then real life somehow gets in the way😒, but this year...

For those new to the concept, this event is highly recommended (as, of course, are the other events)   If you can set aside some time and are prepared to interact with fellow Circus-goers, this is a fantastic way to experience RoF FC.

I think offensives of April 1918 are much more representable in FC than April 1917. We had a Nivelle Offensive for BA5, we could do the Kaiserschlacht for BA 10!

D.Va vs S.E.5 is an interesting matchup, though.

Yes, it should be very much so.

Dolphin instead of SeVa, would give a more even balance of the parties (applicable to our game) However, the ubiquitous "historical justice" could suffer in this option 😉 At the same time, D7f against Spad would be so boring that I would most likely miss this event  .

Yes, BA is an event that exists almost like a separate BRAND in the RoF world (previously). Planewise it can be only a fantasy BA in fact now, with the current FC planeset, let's be honest.

Kaiserschlacht sounds reasonable for FC.

No56_Waggaz, 56RAF_Talisman, and I would like to fly as one team for this event (don't mind that our squadron tags are all slightly varied 🙂), most preferably as a S.E.5a unit.
