Sybreed Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Do changes to the AI include our friendly AI? Seems like only enemy AI got improved and our friendlies are getting shot down a lot more easily than before. In SP, I often end up alone against a whole squad of spitfires. 1

Friendly AI and enemy AI are the same, the only difference can be in AIlevel.

Ha, im experiencing the opposit. My whole squadron survive against 8 enemy planes. Only playing against ace AI. In FC its total slaughterhouse in a few minutes. Easily ending qmb with 8 victories.

What could explain the poor performance of friendlies in career mode though? Could it only be AI level? I'll post a few screenshots of post battle summaries to explain my point. Bombing missions aren't really better either. I haven't taken screenshots of those, but I'm usually only the one attacking the target. My friendlies will attack a few AA units and leave.

If there is a real difference (and it's not just the common observer perspective that 'our side' always gets it worst!) perhaps it is that the AI may still favour the turning aircraft over the boom and zoom aircraft? I know some efforts have been made to improve the AI ability in this area (and very grateful for that), but maybe the 109s and 190s still tend to come out a little worse in a straight AI v AI fight despite the same coding being used? I may be wrong? Don't know. But anyway I want to say a big thank you to beneG for his excellent work so far. Looking forward to what comes next on the AI improvement front. ? 1

If you use high difficulty, this would mean that enemies are Ace level, while your squamates have mixed levels, and friendly flights are flying with Novice level, IIRC what LukeFF posted some time ago. This is the reason, why I only use medium difficulty in fighter careers, because otherwise friendlies get slaughtered all the time.

My theory is that most fights start with the ai being at the same alt or with an altitude advantage. 109s and 190s won't really compete with spitfires and mustangs in these conditions. They like to turn fight and nothing outurns a spit. Perhaps boom and zoom tactics should be introduced for German planes?

VII_Osvaldgreen Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Good morning guys, do you plan to improve the graphics engine? Your sim is already amazing, but if it also had better graphics it would be crazy.
kendo Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 There are plans to move to deferred shading sometime this year if all goes to plan.
VII_Osvaldgreen Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Great news. If the graphics are improved it will become almost perfect.

Yes, that is my observation, too. Enemy fighters usually attack from above, additionally, 2k is of course the worst altitude for 190s, they can't try climbing, as they have less manifold pressure up to 3k. 3 hours ago, Sybreed said: They like to turn fight and nothing outurns a spit. Perhaps boom and zoom tactics should be introduced for German planes? Fly a 262 career and see how even 262 AI pilots try to turn with the Spits. I was flying two missions of the Nowotny squadron, intercepting B25 bombers, the AI didn't even try to attack the bombers, but immediately started turning with the Spits.
