PWCG 8.0.0 Beta 3 Available for Test

Hi Pat. Alpha 1 seems to be working largely as expected. English speaking controllers, yahoo! That one alone made my day. I flew just 2 missions so far- single player campaign USA, Bodenplate, 9/1/44 352nd, p51’s.

I Like the GUI, binary missions seem to generate faster, formatting of options for syncing is much cleaner, missions had great action nothing odd that I noticed.

Only issue was as noted already skin management isn’t working. It sets my options and fuel fine but the skins I set for the squadron and me don’t show up in game.

Very nicely executed Pat. Thanks for all your work.

Pat, I have tested again to check the ship spawning again. Yep, there's deffinitely an issue there. Setting was Kuban, flying Hs 129. Anti-shipping missions have no ships spawing at all. Both were coop missions.

Another issue I found - When moving around the map the "Target Egress" waypoint the software sets the distance and bearing of that waypoint to 0. (edit)

Some notes: issues are being recorded as they are being reported.

Murleen figured out the skin assignment problem.  That is not new to 8.0 but it is an obvious sore point.

Ships not spawning has been recorded as an issue.

Target egress bearing is also noted.  Part of me is curious as to how much waypoint orientation even matters.  The planes move from the previous waypoint to the next one ... I don't think they care about WP orientation at all.

Not yet.  I'm going to release Alpha 2 tonight.  It will not have fixes for the scramble issue or ships not spawning.  I expect to get to those later in the week.

Hi Pat,

I don´t know if it is PWCG thing, but bombers do not shoot back. AI setting is +4. Attacking bombers is like turkey shooting :-) Does anyone have same issue?

And one question: in advanced config odds that bomber mission is escorted means only my bomer missions will have escort or generally bombers are with or without escort?

Been discussed.  IMHO this is a game issue that has been in place since Rise of Flight.  I have two choices:

1. Use high priority waypoints that will cause the bombers to keep formation but also cause the gunners to fall asleep.

2. Use medium priority waypoints that will wake up the gunners but cause the bombers to fly in ways that bombers didn't usually fly.

For years I went with option 2, being aware of the bug.  I had feedback tat the bug had been fixed to I reverted to option 1, only to find that the gunner issue was not fixed.  In 8.0 alpha I have gone back to option 2 again.  Maybe I can try option 1 in another decade or so.

The question is, why do the gunners shoot in the career mode missions? Is it possible, that it has to do with the formation? Maybe they are programmed as three ship formation and therefore behave differently? In career mode missions the bombers fly in three aircraft V-formations. This is the only difference, I can see. One thing, that is pretty odd there is, when you damage one bomber of a formation seriously or destroy it, the other two turn away, too, and RTB.

Hi Pat,

May attempts to get a P38 mission with cold starts are failing when clicking that "mission" button. If I switch to start on runway the missions get created.
Please find attached the corresponding error log zip.

thanks for all!

Cold start has not been released yet.  Murleen has it done and it's on my computer.  I am currently working to get PWCG 8 Beta out the door. Beta will have all features completed but not all reported issues fixed.  As people work with the Beta 1 release (and probably find more issues) I will focus exclusively on bug fixes.

Not in Beta 1 (but will be fixed before 8.0 release):

Ships not appearing

Equipment handling issues

No enemies on scramble missions

Appreciate the feedback.

Same here. The other downloads work fine, but not the 8.0 beta.

Also, I notice it says missions added for FC and BoS, but there's no FC version on your site yet. Is it part of the BoS version now?

Great!  Did the fixes for the FC Aircraft Speed make it in?  This was the issue of the AI immediately turning for home at Mission Start.

I was going to release the beta for FC last night.  Ran a test mission.  We did circles.  BoS worked just fine.  So I have more work to do on FC before I let anybody try it.

I thought that I came up with a solution for turning around but now I suspect not.  Going to write some code to ensure 100% fuel for all planes in FC.  What I saw yesterday may or may not be different.  My flight should have had 100% fuel.

Anybody know what a red target box means instead of the yellow WP marker?  I had never seen it before.

I probably typo'd the file name in the download.  I usually test download.  Last night it was late and I just forgot to do it.  I'll fix it this evening.

I think they're mission markers rather than travel waypoints. In other words, they mark your main mission area and stay active until your mission is complete/failed. For me they're a red box with crossed swords inside, but I've messed with the icons and can't remember what the default icon looks like.

Yep they usually show up when you have a ground area to protect and circle around.

If you too have an error when you try to recover the new version on patrick's website, you can recover the file directly on this link

Mm, I just saw that it's the Alpha and not the Beta. But the file was uploaded on February 26th... wrong file name or wrong version uploaded?

Did the same thing - but if you look at the file dates they are from 10 days ago approx. ie 16/2 from memory (at work). Have to wait for Patrick to get home in his evening and sort it out.

I saw this a few times, and it looked like it was a transport mission, so presumably the Ju-52 squadron causing it - haven't had time to try debugging.

Using air start results in you and your flight spawning at 10k alt and just turning in circles.

Well, at least you start in the air ... :).  Thanks for the feedback.  Circling planes almost always means that some dots are not connected.

That helps.  I should be able to update an existing unit test to recreate the problem.

Pat, great job!

I flew 4 missions using the Beta version. Excellent action, great to have cold start back, skin management is working and no abnormal behavior noted on the ground or in the air. The only things I noticed is as replacements are transferred in, the pilots name(s) are not showing in the announcement of their arrival. Also I saw zero flak or ground battles. Ground activity is on medium and random ground is on.

You've really done fine work with this build. Thank you!
