Lusekofte Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I was flying the f 4 and it self combusted itself to a fireball due to g load. Nah I got enough with Kiowa and Chinook
Gambit21 Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Cockpit modeling/texturing looks dated already. Looks like fun though.

In comparison with some modules perhaps although, from the videos, I still think it looks better than the Hind and probably equal to the Shark and, unlike the Shark, this thing actually existed operationally. Away from the Kiowa, I caved and flew the F4 yesterday with ma keyboard (even landed it albeit a little off the runway). Even with the limitied immersion afforded I can see that the module has that rare DCS feeling of being more than the sum of its parts. I'll have sooo many things to play with come christmas! 1 1
Lusekofte Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 What facing us right now is like when I was a kid coming into a circus. To much new fun stuff and too little time. A very rear moment of 3 modules you really like arriving. DCS can not have too many choppers. Period. Kiowa will be my fly for fun chopper it will replace the OH 6 and Gazelle in that role. I might go so far to even replace some of my Huey time with it. It do not have the ability to data link targets, at least not for now. And despite what the man in video said. That was its purpose online.

BOO Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 (edited) According to Polychop in their Stormbirds interview "The Improved Data Modem (IDM) is a similar system (to Datalink) that allows for transmission of data between player (so presumably not AI) aircraft. This includes but is not limited to the following features: Free-text Messaging, Target Sharing and Remote Hellfire Missions. The OH-58D is also equipped with the Level 2 Manned-Unmanned System (L2MUMS) which allows for video and data transmission between player controlled OH-58Ds and AI UAVs." A little worryingly for at least the short term and given how small the team is, its also has an FFB integration that is in "Testing " Sadly no previously trailed asset pack either 😞 Edited May 28, 2024 by BOO

Certainly the back wall and overheads dont look as up to date as the main panel. That said it could be worse and, after only having the Hip Huey and BS2 for so long, we helo jocks are supernatually zen in our ability to overlook such things! 1
Gambit21 Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Focused on the Chinook...SpecOps base on Guam. A few missions here before deploying to Afghanistan

The net result of this is that you will have to share coordinate via the radio to any other platform, just as in real life. This is no big deal, I've plinked tanks from 30000 feet, above total cloud cover in a Viper, with a squad mate calling out coordinates and lasing for me in a tree top hight Apache.... Actually a lot of fun! Edited May 29, 2024 by DD_fruitbat 1

Very entertaining as always. Yeah...good stuff. I just skipped around a bit because I'm short on time but will watch the whole thing later. I did catch him saying essentially that VRS is not a thing that real helo pilots even hear about, and I have to concur based on a conversation with my father in-law about it. (former CH-46 pilot) He had no clue what it was.
BOO Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 What fresh hell is "Twitch"? Very entertaining and informative though. Kiowa is looking good. I like that its limited and no uber trooper. 1
Lusekofte Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Well he is a chopper pilot and gave me a few pointers. It seems like I do something right and something wrong. I expected all things I do to be wrong. The Kiowa is as I said a no brainer. It obviously got a much more believable fm than Gazelle. I suspect I will spend a lot of time in it
Lusekofte Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-OH-6A/releases/tag/v1.2 OH 6 gotten updated. Almost too easy to fly. Much better torque control and very easy to land and take off 1
Trooper117 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 What is the source code? and does that have to be downloaded as well?
Aapje Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 If you don't know, it's not for you. Just follow the instructions here: https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-OH-6A 1

Pretty sure youve worked it out mate but you just need the OH-6 V1.2 and the V1.1 liveries. The VAP is the asset pack that goes with it wiith some US and VC interest and a riverside landing pontoon set up.. The Source code is for those wishing to deveolp the mod as a community. 6 hours ago, DD_fruitbat said: No Patch scheduled for tomorrow, maybe the kiowa, maybe🙏🤞 If this is the "June patch" perhaps also some mmore compreenhive fillow ups for Orbx as well according to their roadmap. Sadly also now the ever hovering risk of it breaking something Razbam. Edited June 4, 2024 by BOO 1

Lusekofte Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Stable as it should be. And I trust that Kiowa/Apache pilot when he say it does what he expect of it. I think I will learn both sides on this chopper It deserve my devotion and attention 1
Gambit21 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Nice, makes me wish that I had any desire to mess with it.
JMax Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Looks great! But I have my hands full(over full lol),with the F4 Phantom. Simply outstanding.😎
BOO Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Though fixes are to be expected after a release HB's list on the changelog is impressive proof of their committment to thier products. From what I gather there will also be a patch in late June. Im hoping for similar from OrbX then.

But I am actually a bit glad I bought it. It is just a bit more modern than my taste but complexity seem just a tad bit more than my brain comprehend so I guess I will manage it. But it was never in my wish list. I am in sort of passenger seat on this one. It’s a chopper. And I grabbed it on impulse passing by
Trooper117 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 There's a few modules in DCS I will never fly... this one will be added to the list.

I tend to buy modules like my missus buys pairs of shoes with about 1 in 10 ever worn or flown twice The big difference of course is that my my modules dont take up too much bloody cupboard space. 2

Avimimus Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 So, my argument for the Kiowa is similar for why I'd want the Iskra... it is very satisfying to take out one or two trucks if you only have seven rockets to do it with! Also, a 20mm cannon feels a lot more powerful when the airplane carrying it is shaking wildly with the recoil. Anyone tried the OV-10 mod after the gunpod was added? It is sometimes fun to be undergunned... if I wanted to hide along a ridge and send a dozen hellfires against an advancing wave of tanks - well, I already experienced that in Commanche III So, it is all about expectations - if you're happy to take out two tanks in a sortie - then an airplane with two to four anti- tank missiles makes for a good challenge (and a satisfying one, protecting your allies from that terrifying armoured opponent). If you want to wipe out everything you see... well, yes, you're going to need a bigger plane.
