I’ve watched one of these things do some lift/log clearing work at a local beach. Steady as a rock in a hover.

Nice sounds but 6/10 for the formation. Not nearly close enough. Must try harder😎

I've seen the same, and some of the stunt work that whoever the pilot was on Magnum and Chips was so amazing. Having said that, and ""flying"" it the mod, my respect for them has gone up 1000% because this thing is really tough to fly. The old AH-6J mod that used to be available in DCS was the same way. It's either because the devs don't have access to the dev kit tricks for stability, etc. or it just actually was this squirrelly, I dunno.  I'm having fun with it though.

I wonder if the trickiness of flying it is at least partly down to the lack of the seat-of-your-pants sensory input you'd get in the real thing. Lightweight helicopters can accelerate and turn on all three axes quickly, and keeping them stable may rely more on non-visual stimuli than a heavier aircraft.

The FM may need tweaking too - there may be something off with the roll axis response in the hover, according to a few comments.

Without a doubt.

Yeah heard that was a game-changer for helos.

I can now take off with some sort of dignity. I can however not guarantee the same for every landing. Not being a real chopper pilot I will be careful expressing a critical comment on how it behave when in groundeffect. I can tell you what happened close to a ridge. It just tip over.
lovely fun. No dm no adf but latter will come and with it you can put it in some campaigns made for Huey’s. I will use it in a mission called I love my job. Multiple rescue missions.

It is the way to go. I promise. I have a stick that got hydronic dampers that simulate choppers well too.
what I do is having spring on my vp force

and use vp force software to trim it. It move the stick where you want it. I do not use sim trim. I flew this new mod hands off yesterday that way

@Lusekofte Luse, so I understand correctly are you using dampers with the rhino or has the rhino negated the need for the dampers?

Nice video!

Map needs a bit longer in the oven though.

The newsletter hints it’s far from finished and may yet increase in price further. Whilst it comes with an EA discount I can’t help but think it’s another module being kicked out the door a little too early and a little too half complete. The comment that the map is also equipped with lots of sea made me smile. Pretty soon the volumetric area of the sky will be being marketed as a feature.

I also wonder if orbx have half an eye on dlc -ing  this map with optional higher detail areas at a later point. That’s their bag in msfs .

I wouldn’t be adverse to this in principle given the needs of a helo  player versus a jet player are quite different…….. as long as I got a discount for only using the bottom bit of the sky in my hip.

I Wonder if they purposely release it with less content to see how people’s rigs handle the map?
If so they already got more to come.
I will buy it at a time I actually have time using it. He’ll I can fly chopper over my home in this. And that video gave me msfs vibes.

Enigma is not a fan due to the large distances between airfields and there being so much forest that it is hard to find spots where to place targets.

Not a lot of places for farps either, imagine going these distances in a helicopter for missions. It'll be an hour or two before you get to your objective.

From a purely tactical/operative point of view, it's really interesting.

Even if the map is currently more devoid of cities and villages than in reality, it looks like it's mostly wilderness and either dense forest or cold mountains over there. It means the tactical challenges are quite different than those from a desert area of operations or from the shores of the Black Sea AOO. I'm guessing military planners have scratched their heads over those challenges throughout the 20th century and are doing it today as well. It does explain pretty obvioulsy the need for rugged airplanes like the Viggen, F18 or Mig29 - they will shine on this map. It also shows why air refueling or carrier groups are tremendous assets in such a place.

Those same challenges will occur to mission makers trying to find ways to add relevance to air operations and mechanized manoeuvres. I don't know yet how to make a "1 hour scenario", needed for a normal multiplayer server, in such a context, but I'm guessing it's possible to find a few places where it's possible, maybe while using road bases.

Anyway, the map will be updated with time, new airbases and airports are planned that should alleviate those difficulties. No need to rush to buy this map anyway, for my part I'm waiting to see where it goes :)

Yeah, same.  I'm a huge fan of Orbx, I've got several of their FS2020 sceneries which are great but this one for DCS is a bit "under-baked" at the moment... maybe in a few months/updates it'll be worth purchase, we'll see..... they really need to sort out that GB footprint too... 150GB is insane.

There's potential for it to climb to 250 I think given it's current size and current state.

I really hope not... as that would be a definite "no" for me ever purchasing it, we'll have to see how it plays out in a few months I guess

Learned my lesson with the SA map.

For me the map is interesting as I live in Rovaniemi😁Must make a mission to fly around and see if my home shows😎

I am going to buy it. Meaning I will skip Afghanistan and delete Sinai until a very interesting campaign comes in either one. For me flying over Norway and my own cities in a jet or chopper would be great. I care less of other things. Campaigns and a good scenery is the way I roll.
Our old buddy glv is catching up on ffb

worth while having a look. I got an authentic Westland whirlwind stick I like to use.

I have concerns so I'm going to watch and see how it goes. I have high hopes for it, and wish the whole endeavor the best.

For the moment I'm studying Afghanistan/Chinook ops. That whole thing has really grabbed me.

Might be what get's me to actually build/finish a DCS campaign finally.

Well could not resist. Bought the new hind campaign. Then hoovered the mouse over Kola Peninsula map.

and clicked on it. I have been around all small ---- places in northern Norway,  Sweden and Finland.
the topography is top notch , the population is not. Despite about all cities missing I could easily navigate just by terrain and roads.
Beautiful fjords and mountains. Orbx has not done a bad job. It is just not finished and this big. Well it is going to take a long while until I can bomb my old school

Airfield textures etc are like SA…which isn’t a good thing. Also compare airfield scenes (attention to detail etc) on Syria/Sinia to Kola…Kola doesn’t come out well there.

Winter textures will save it to some extent just like happened with IL2/Rhineland. If I ever work with it, it will be on the winter version. I like snow maps anyway.

Afghanistan is going to be the new map benchmark I think.

Pretty fjords (from a distance) aside, it sure as hell isn’t going to be Kola.

I'm open to being pleasantly surprised, but if SA is any indication this won't happen any time soon. I would love nothing more than to be wrong.

A lot of people love the map. And I am one of them. But I easily give a 💩 on Afghanistan map. Sinai disappointed me I should have been satisfied with just Syria. Start coming campaigns for it.
I am from northern part of Norway. Kind of red neck country and my language often get moderated.
I am not easily offended, such things rather give me a feeling of gratitude. I was not banned at least.

I can only judge by the videos and, even then, only by the few not compromised in quality by VR. Sadly it’s not wowed me and I can’t help but think, at times, it’s looks no better than the caucuses did ten years ago.

Like Gambit I really want this map to be great.  I’ll keep an open mind for now.

I was looking forward to coming back to some new environments. As 2024 goes on its looking more and more likely that the power of my next pc will be used primarily to hack and brute force Syrias visibility settings and LODs into an acceptable shape in 2D.
