No G unfortunately.

Pitty that. However I guess we´ll get enough other possibilities to have fun with the "Double Ugly" I guess.

Anyway, I understood A6 Intruder also will come this year. I might be motivated for that one

The Intruder probably won't come until Q4 2024 at the earliest.  I think the Eurofighter (TrueGrit and Heatblur partnership) is due to come before it and who knows when that'll actually release

I didn't pick up any new modules this steam sale... I was really tempted for the Hind but decided to get some much wanted campaigns instead:

  • Wolfpack - P-47 campaign
  • Beware, Beware - Spitfire campaign
  • Iron Flag Part 1 - A-10C campaign
  • Raven One - F-18C campaign

I'm determined that the next actual module I'll buy is the F-15E and sticking to it.

Other versions of the F-4 are still to come. :)

How complex could it get? It's WWII.

No onboard systems systems etc.

Good point, ok ok I will start with it. Hopefully by the weekend, I want a few more hours in with the Spit first.

Reading his intro it sounds somewhat complex - you say though it would be good for a first Spit campaign? I have purchased already as well but I can try another one first if necessary.

To be fair, in Beware Beware, you start the story as a 19 year old kid with only 11 hours in the Spit. ?

The Big Show, and the Epsom Campaign are really good also!

Ok thanks much - I certainly do not mind being 19 again lol.

Not exactly true, it won't be an update but a completely new map. The are going to coexist side by side as the old campaigns will not work on a new Normandy 2

At least that's what is says in Q&A

Yes, if you want the new version with Paris and London. But the "old" normandy map will also get a visual update if you don't buy Normandy 2

Oh, and regarding having all three campaigns for the Spit, have a look at this.

WOW! Now that's a great idea! I'm holding off on the Normandy map until the new version drops, I'll pick up the Big Show and Epsom if he converts them.  I think I read he was planning on it somewhere ?

Small update on the F-15E concerning AI from their discord:

Sounds like I’ll be waiting for that before I fly the Mud Hen. Can’t wait to see how that works out.

If you have the old Normandy map, and The Channel map, Normandy 2.0 will only be $9.99. Not sure how much 2.0 will be as a standalone.

Unless he has changed his mind he has already said he won't be doing that... it would be a huge job that he's not prepared to do.

He said this in one of his video updates awhile back.

Ok got cold starts in the Spit down now, good to go. I just want a litle more consistency in the quality of my landings first. Take offs are great.

So I have been using the instant action cold start on The Channel. This last flight I decided to fly across the channel and do a little sight seeing on the other side.

Denied, got bounced by I believe a couple of 190's and that was the end of that. Apparently no one  told them it was just an instant action cold start mission for practice lol. Rude.

Aye - unless the new map is simply an expansion and all logic etc remains. In other words, nothing that has to be done. Unfortunately with the DCS editor one cannot simply copy/paste logic. Everything is a ton more work.

Man that guy can make missions.

I do look forward to this continuation

Do you believe in love at first sight?  Bought a new toy.

image.thumb.jpeg.dc1761e670fd4ec24b77b3e88d403b7e.jpeg

This is the very very "first impression".  First thing, set up default view to my liking.  Then map Cyclic and Collective and force trim, get rid of undesirable automapped bindings.  That takes about 5 minutes.  Then I'm in the air in the default runway start at Kutaisi.  I have no idea what the 4 way force trim does, only that up seems to work as I think of force trim.  And there we are, flying around, hovering behind trees, all the stuff that attack helicopters do.  Extraordinarily intuitive.  Feels like a cross between UH-1 and KA-50, but without that annoying KA-50/Mi-24 autopilot and trim (need to hold button down or suffer a lurch).  Looks good. Flies well.  Sounds great.  Should have bought this a long time ago.  From reading comments here, I understand it's going to be a real beast to learn all the systems, but flying wise, very good first impression, and a kick of confidence that actually flying it is going to be the least of my learning curve.  I see that the "quick start" manual is nearly 400 pages long.

I actually don't mind Nellis, I just wish they'd expand it to include NAS Fallon which would seem like a "no-brainer" with the Hornet, Tomcat and Harrier in the sim.

I wish they'd included the target objects etc on all of the ranges. Fallon would be a great bonus but I'll take a finished Nellis range.

Mi-24 autopilot and trim

Mi 24 got the best trim of them all. You use the trim hat and can let the cyclic go.
Nah AH 64 is just too easy to fly and too glass cockpitty

No, I think it's a neat aircraft, and glad you like it. I hope you have time for it.

I'm just less into any whiz bang high tech aircraft even if I become enamored with it for a minutelike the Viper.

I just have to pick my battles. I'm 'stuck' modeling an aircraft right now from literally ground zero, and if I fly something it has to be short bursts, so need simple.

Loving the Apache here, it is solely responsible for me getting a Virpil Cyclic. Taking a break from my learning process to do some DCS WWII now, but will get back to it soon enough I am sure. Loving those Hellfires.

Chuck Owl just released his first iteration of the AH-64D guide on December 23rd 2022. Last Updated: 6/01/2023 https://chucksguides.com/

The gold standard in flight sim manuals imho

Spent the day today flying the DCS Spitfire, all cold starts taxi to runway and takeoffs - Channel Map. Getting cold starts down pretty good now, won't be long I won't need my notes

Oh damn.

I have had the DCS Spitfire LF MK IX for years and my Chuck Guide on file was Last Updated: 04/07/2018.

Recently having found Chucks new site at https://chucksguides.com  I took a look at his Spitfire Manual to see if there was an update... is there what ... updated : 6/01/2023 and it is now 148 pages (was 66).

Combined with @dburne comments I suddenly feel compelled to reload the Spitfire module, buy some new maps a campaign and get flying!

But IL2 is my WW2 Sim and stepping out on it feels wrong somehow. Sick eh?

So many aircraft ! So little time !
