It looks very similar to the Channel map. Yes yes I know it’s the same place more or less.? What I meant is it looks as if they have been able to access the ED channel bits bucket in order to help create it. Which is a good thing. If so Maybe one day that could be a single map?

People rag on the helicopters, but anybody can fly a fixed wing flightsim airplane.  You buy a fixed wing plane and you’re probably flying patterns first time out after assigning the basic controls.  Learning the systems takes the most time.  But not everybody can fly a flightsim chopper well, so getting that down is a whole new challenging area to explore in the hobby.  People who haven’t flown a helicopter in DCS or other sims should definitely give it a try.

For sure, I love the Huey in DCS, it’s enormous fun. Would I get in any helicopter in real life? No. No I would not, and irl my preferred method of getting my bum into the air is on the end of a long piece of rope attached to a winch…

A friend recently took a helicopter excursion to some glacier in Alaska, and was a bit nervous.  They let her sit right up front.  She said “this is my first time in a helicopter!”  The pilot looked over and said “oh really, me too!”  She was actually a veteran Army pilot with time in Iraq, lol.

Anybody can fly a module that flies like a "real helicopter". Only the real pros manage to master the clusterduck. ?

I took an afternoon nap on Sunday, two cats sleeping next to me, and I heard this gigantic Swooosh sound, half asleep.  And then really, really low, unmistakeable F-16’s.  I awoke fully, and turned on the TV, thinking WTF.

Just the football game about to start and the flyby of ANG.?

Looks like 2.8 wont be coming this week. A 2.7yahdeyah patch has just been put up on the changelog.

If this is 2.8 I expect it to break things. Or rather, break more things than DCS patches usually do.

Im fairly sanquine about that - I have the luxary of a second install if things go really south and a full set of shifts for them to sort it out in the meantime ?

Yeah, I've got a backup non-beta install, which is only a few patches behind if I remember correctly.

Do SSD manufacturers sponsor DCS patches? They probably should... ?

Beta and stable are exactly the same at the moment

2.8 tomorrow is just fine with me. Can't wait to see moving clouds on the South America map. That will be spectacular.

I have to keep CB and OB updated, stable would just be an unnecessary resource drain and I'd never need it. I have to build missions and various testing in CB or OB. I've never run stable.

Also you can copy your non-beta and by changing an entry in the (I think bin/text file) and convert it to OB.

This is how I installed CB (with authorization of course)...just coped OB and changed that text line.

In short any version can be converted to any other version.

Now all the 3rd party devs will be going through missions making sure targets are not obscured by clouds.

Well I have a hope , not big , but never the less it is there. This update will not ruin my preferred activities.
my interest tend to not be a priority at all among any developer

I'm really looking forward to playing around with the weather,  be the first thing I'm going to look at.

Rainbows and ice halos… Wow.  My machine is fairly new, but I’m always worried that the next new improvement is going to bring it to its knees.

My efforts to find new and interesting ways to break a Harrier continue: ?

Screen-221026-221941.png

My attempt to take off from the Invincible with 10 GBU-12s and 75% fuel wasn't appreciated. An almighty thump when I hit the ramp was the first clue that something was wrong. As can be seen, when I retracted the wheels one outrigger was stuck down. Or at least, down visually - no way to tell if it would actually hold any weight on landing. Going back to the ship didn't seem sensible, so I dumped the GBUs, and most of the fuel, and headed for a nearby runway. A slow rolling vertical landing seemed the safest option, since a little forward speed helps controllability, and I wanted to minimise the load on the outrigger. The landing wasn't as smooth as I'd have liked, but I got away with it.

Bummer ... but at least they give out dates.  If they have to move them, so be it, but I appreciate the openness.  Hopefully tomorrow though!

I'd prefer if they'd not try to pack a gazillion of eagerly awaited fixes - fixes which they could have fielded earlier - into a patch that's gonna "change the world".

And a patch that adds a new module that I have just been waiting for a year now.

Slightly miffed.

Fair points, I'm not planning on picking up the MB339 but the F-14 updates and weather updates are definitely eagerly awaited, hopefully tomorrow is the day finally.

You don't want to think about it but.... This is the beginning of a "two weeks / Murphy's law" period.... and you know it. Also they appreciate your mind openness too.
