Reflected's Mosquito campaign is kicking my keester...I'm finding ground ops to be a challenge. The flying is pretty cool especially the winter environment.

The airplane is gorgeous!

The atmosphere is convincing.

Took some 20mm hits south of Calais and east of Boulogne, nothing the erks can't handle. Thankfully it didn't damage an engine.

Love the mosquito! But...a campaign was released without working delayed fuse bombs? I'm still waiting for that.

I'm testing his work. There are a couple of Mosquito show-stopper items the Devs need to address in addition to bomb fusing. The two most pressing IMO are 1) inability to feather a battle damaged engine and 2) the attitude indicator is knackered with regards to the gyro not erecting all the time.

Glad you're enjoying it, and getting time in DCS.

As for the rest of you, you've been holding out on me.

This thing is fantastic!

Doing a bit of road recce.

I'm going to need a different skin or 2, so time to download the template.

I love this thing...actually requires that I fly it, and I like that.

Plus you don't need a PhD to operate it. Throw a couple of switches and go, while dude X is still aligning his platform.

Looking forward to flying the MB339.

And the F1. Especially the F1. Did I mention the F1? ?

Cool. I haven't bought many DCS campaigns, but this one I'm looking forward to!

Oh my just when I think I am getting the Apache down with my training missions I discover good ole George AI has a lot of other commands one needs to work with him on. I still got a ways to go in my learning process of this bird. If there ever was module suited to co-op play this Apache is it. As I prefer SP I need to learn all of George AI. But I can certainly see this module would be a blast to fly in co-op with another human player as CP/G.

I am amazed at the inclusion of George AI ... great technology I reckon .... that George can fill either Pilot or CP/G role too!..... very smart.... excellent to be able to fly this SP.

Really encourages me to take up the Apache (but lots to learn with the Hornet first)

One thing for sure - he can sure hold a hover in the Apache way better than I can LOL.

Oh yeah Hornet is a blast, I already have that one behind my belt, first module I took the time to truly learn. I have to go back and fly it some in betwixt and between to make sure it stays fresh in my mind as I go through the Apache learning process.

Hornets are for skirts - but this will all look great from the seat of my TOMCAT!!!

Spent 4 hours yesterday working on AI carrier ops. Hornets were good for some background scenery - but the real action is with the TOMCATS!!!

Look out, I’m going to ‘compute you to death’ with my Charlie!! ???

Those new ATC comms btw - awesome.

Seriously just amazing. The new skeletal animation is so good it looks like real video.

The lighting, the shadow treatment, even movement of the deck crews clothing.... all just fantastic

Great time to be alive .... to see this technology. My Grandfather was a WW1 Navy radio engineer - I cannot imagine what he would think.

Yeah neither would my dad if he were still living. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WWII.

Man planes, with a few cute Charlies taking off too.

That's me still ready to follow Lead off the waist.

We'll leave Mom, with a scheduled mach-run flyby past Akrotiri for the benefit our friends there. Then we land at Incirlik for 10 days of section ACM exercises.

Think combo of Top Gun and Red Flag...lots of players.

We invited the Hornets on the mach run flyby past Akrotiri, but embarrassingly they can't go Mach 1. 'snicker'  So it's up to the manly planes to do manly things in manly ways.

@dburne It's my job to poke fun at your technologically superior (sort of) platform FYI - tradition you see.

By the way, did you decide on another jet or have you sidelined that for the time being because of the whirly bird?

Lol no worries I understand!

Yeah currently just learning the Apache with a little Hornet flying in between to keep me fresh with it. Along with IL-2 of course. I am getting there main thing I am working on now is learning the Hellfires and working with George AI as cp/g. I have gotten halfway decent with rockets and guns.

I own both the F 14 and F 16 so someday I reckon I will get around to both.

Personally, Apache as a chopper do not overly increase my enthusiasm.

I rather learn to fly the A 10

To me right now it is just too much weight carried by little motivation.

It did make me revise the Hind.

Albeit its flaws ,I start to like it, or more the way it fight

Open Beta update is out including the new Supercarrrier Animations and night lighting. May have to go back to the Hornet Campaign I was flying and check this out. Still need some Apache learning time today though, got to get my arms wrapped around using Hellfires along with George AI. Maybe Hornet tomorrow or day after. Augh who knows...

You're going to LOVE the Viper and Tomcat.

I both fly the Viper offline and built for it like a Block 32 basically. Meaning I skip all the ultra-modern, post Gulf War wiz-bangery...not my thing.

I can start the Viper up, take off (unless I'm online because my IQ drops 20 points online) drop some dumb bombs CCIP/CCRP, use the heaters, fly a demo at Nellis...haha.

No interest in operating a computer within a computer.

That said I think it's great that you know the Hornet basically backwards and forwards...you can boot up any mission or campaign and basically deal with it...very cool. I only aspire to be there with the Tomcat and the F-4 for now, and to a more limited degree (early days like I said) with the Viper. So eventually I'll spend a day with the Viper learning FCR, but not for a while.

The Tomcat is the Tomcat!!...lovely, visceral, mean...a BEAST. No "fly by vote" 'happening here. Can't wait for you to start flying her.

I have multiple irons in the fire, but I model a bit for Magnitude 3, and test for another of the DCS 3rd party developers, and I just learned that I'm going to be quite busy very, very soon. :joy:  So Viper FCR will have to wait.

Yeah I do so love flying campaigns in the Hornet, off the Super Carrier. Quite thrilling to complete a 45 minute long mission and only get awarded for it if I make it back to a safe landing on the carrier. Sometimes at night in very heavy rain - good pucker factor stuff LOL.

Ok so I will learn the Tomcat after the Apache. Assuming I make it through the Apache lol. At least with the Tomcat I can still have my carrier ops I love so much.

I do not like sitting in the Hornet. It is ugly, weird grip and no charm what so ever

I like the Tomcat, and I like the A 10

I can fly both, could start both.

Depressing knowing that modules I flown a lot I forgot. I sat 4 hours today  trying to remember startup and weapons in the KA 50. And I have a lot of hours in it.

Doing more than two modules and know them well will take years.

Only chopper I remember properly after absence is the MI 8

Well hopefully before too much longer I will have the Apache under my belt like I have the Hornet. I so love my office in the Hornet also though and feel it is a work of art. For me nothing like some good ground pounding missions in the Hornet for sure. I especially love the campaigns that always start the mission with a cold start parked position, preferably on Super Carrier. Love watching other Hornets take off whilst I await my turn in line to taxi to the catapult.

Yeah with all the time you've put into the Hornet, if I were you I'd keep current no matter what else you learn.

Well I am a pretty happy camper today. After yesterday then a full day today I can say I now can successfully deploy all weapons on the Apache.

I laid waste to a lot of ground targets at the Weapons Range on the Syria map today utilizing all my weapons - Hellfires, Rockets, and Guns. Great fun - hellfires were a blast. I flew as Pilot the whole time working with George AI as my CPG and giving him launch authority when he had them targeted. While it was frustrating at times trying to learn this thing it has been a very rewarding experience.

Now I just need to home my skills a little in flying this thing and I will be ready to go. 54 hours so far spent learning what I have.

I think I can safely say now yeah I will be sticking with the Apache. Now to get back to some more of my Hornet campaign flying to keep fresh with it. And definitely need to get back to my PWCG Spitfire campaign. Too many irons in the fire LOL. And I already told Gambit I will learn the F 14.

Is that 54 hours all up or 54 hours just on the weapons systems?
54 Hours all up is just great...in fact 54 for the weapons sytems alone would be pretty terrific....maybe you can give lessons!

Do you recall how long you took to learn the F/A-18C to the point your flying campaigns as you do? My initial objective is carrier take off and landing....I will be chuffed when I manage that.

54 Hours all up. I still need some more to be better at my flying and landing skills but I am pretty close now. And I am talking mainly the pilot seat, I would need some more in the CP/G seat should I fancy that. Right now I am letting George AI handle the CP/G seat. I have worked with it some with guns. I also need a little more in pilot seat working with adding points, etc.

Hornet was around 200 hours. However keep in mind it has a lot of different weapons to learn. Apache has three.

I have made some priority list in order to keep my sanity.

I continue to do Choppers:

MI 8, Huey, Hind, Gazelle and KA 50, I ditch the AH 64

After several YT videos about the Viper, Hornet , A 10 and Harrier I decided if I am going into one of them, it need to do all sorties I want to do and comprehend the system.

so I landed on Harrier

I will if time available focus on that, in defended areas it suit better than A 10, carry more than Viper and Hornet. And got a much better screeen for aim

The Tomcat I can take off and land on carrier, and that is all I need to do

By now you are really at a point you should consider a collective. If you still do not have landing and takeoff perfect, it is what you missing. I would reccomend Virpil collective without throttle on base. You need to retrain with it anyway. AH 64 is pretty straight forward and intuitive to fly compared to all other choppers that need much more finesse

Yeah Virpil Collective is on my likely to get list. In fact I already ordered and received a Monster Tech Mount for my AK Racing gaming chair for it. Mainly was waiting to be sure I would stick with Apache. Only thing that bothers me on the Virpil collective is reports of having to keep tightening the screws to keep the arm lever from dropping on it's own to the point they run out of threads and have to mod it with a counter balance. Not much on spending that kind of money to end up having to mod it. Will see.

quite right, I guess it is a throttle issue, my collective got throttle and are front heavy, the throttle do not work propperly either. It is basically dead wight, but the collective itself holds a high quality accuracy.

My choise of using it is basically because they sold it with chair mount, another alternative is Wingwigs collective  that got basically same design. I will buy one collective from Virpil, despite its fault it got realistic grips for the choppers I fly. I probably just find a bungee cord to ease the pressure

Yeah I will likely continue to use my Virpil CM 3 Throttle for the two axis Apache throttles.

As I said, this is my second type of collective, skip the handthrottle, it is really not needed buy one without and with as many buttons available, two hatswitches if possible, but it is a point making it as light as possible too. Front heavy is a problem for all high tech collectives in consumer class

How is DCS running lately? interested in WWII only, I know online is not popular, but how is it offline?

Is the DM better?

Is the VR performance any better?

AI has improved?

Last time I played was two years ago, and  found it boring with the AI and DM totally arcade.

Been very busy with real life this last month, but thought I'd have a look at some of the new super carrier effects, the new night paddle lights for the ground crew, very nicely done I think.

Well I only own the mosquito so my advice is visit the DCS forum. That said the sound and study quality of the planes is a plus. But the AI is terrible and cheats. Damage modeling has been specially adapted for WOII. But the most terrible thing is visibility. I fly VR and use subdued labels (just a grey blob) to give me a change to spot anything. Il2 in comparison is the holy grail in spotting. My opinion of course but I am always right!  :)
