It can when it come to I16 it is simply awesome. And the yak 52.  But that is for scenery flights

I do enjoy my scenery flights in the Yak-52. Carrier landings, parking lot landings, good fun. But I passed on the I-16 and the Spitfire. I'll leave those for BOX.

But I'm definitely getting the carrier. Just not sure about the F-14 or the F-18. $100 each. Ouch!

Yeah, I'm not much on the WWII A2A in DCS. BOX has it beat by a country mile. And with the far, far better FPS in BOX, not the mention the variety of planes, it's just a whole better experience. DCS can't touch it.

I'm really looking forward to the new dm changes slated for the next patch regarding ww2 content.

Proof will be in the pudding, but sounds like a big step forward.

That's the great thing about having BOX and DCS, you get twice the update fun!

2.5.6 should be out very soon and it's supposed to really kick up the night lighting. That's what I'm looking forward to.

My vote is F-14 (easier to learn?)

I watching some Grim Reapers videos on both. Those guys make great DCS tutorials. They made a video with the IL2 tanks a while ago and I thought their heads would explode. They were having a riot.

The F-18 is on sale sometimes for $77Cdn. The F-14 will be stuck at $100 for a while I'm guessing. I tried the F-14 demo and it's prettier, that's for sure. Possibly the nicest graphics of any plane I've ever seen.

So far no F-18 + carrier deals on Steam, the carrier alone in $46Cdn. and you get the SU-33 with it. Not too bad.

Ah, you are on Steam .. too bad because this would have been a great bundle.

But who knows - maybe the bundle will be available on Steam as well?

You can´t go wrong with either of the planes - but yes, the F-14 is a beauty and it has way more character than the more modern FBW aircraft.

Yep, I want that!

Im so looking forward to the Mosquito, I know its a long way off but that trailer has me really excited.

I just wish my Grandfather had stuck around alittle bit longer so he could have taught me the systems from personal experience.

VR would have blown him away.

Gona be an epic year for flight sims.

That trailer looked great. I wonder if already using Vulkan in that video?

One thing for sure, they get the eye candy trophy for lighting and giving a sense of distance.

I have both the F-18 and F-14 along with the Super Carrier on Pre-Order.

Have not touched the F-14 yet but am going through the learning process on the F-18. At least the few times I can tear myself away from IL-2 to learn another stage.

Carrier Ops in the Persian Gulf are gorgeous and a blast. Loving it especially in VR.

I am really looking forward to the Super Carrier also.

Wow... will be nice if they can get all those planes done in my lifetime.?

I am learning the f-18 and DCS  with a friend of mine teaching me.....it is very technical and you need a lot of understanding how all the various systems work together. Waypoints....radio, JDAM, litening pods, bomb types, missile types - evasion, SAMS, flares/chaff etc etc etc...its a lot if you just a casual.

The thing that DCS jets like the f18 does not do for me is that it is like flying a hectic computer that can blow stuff up.... I love the raw intensity of a WW2 dogfight....Up close and very intense. ?

You have the F-18 and the F-14? I should switch jobs and do what you do.

The F-14 is certainly prettier and cooler, but I like the cockpit visibility and ground pounding of the F-18. I'll watch more videos and think about it. For the moment I'll grab the carrier and land my Harrier on it. Since there might be no coms interaction between my Harrier and the carrier, I can land without permission and see if I can make the animated deck crew go nuts and try to shove my plane off the side.

Impressive trailer.

It´s really hard to see how primitive and cheap the Bodenplatte map looks, compared to the DCS Normandy map....not to speak from the Il-2 ´46 like FX effects what GB series offers.

I mean, competition in the gaming market is always good, but the IL-2 Dev´s really have to keep up or they fall behind very quickly.

Agreed, the DCS maps are prettier, and I love my DCS maps, but BOX offers a more fluid A2A experience. Even with more planes I get at least 2x the FPS in BOX.

I can crank the graphics in BOX, put 20 planes in the air, and still get 90+FPS with gorgeous atmospheric eye candy. I can't do that in DCS, certainly not on the Normandy map.

Unlikely. As noted by one of mods on ED forum, Vulkan is still far away. Recording missions taking place at morning or evening hours, however, makes every game look twice prettier and DCS is no exception :D. Maybe even more pretty because low sun conditions are favourable for deferred rendering.

@Art-JThanks for the information :) That video really showed DCS to be very pretty. That lighting is awesome.

Just scored the super carrier on pre-order. The SU-33 was included with it and installed right away.

I like that!

$45Cdn for the carrier, and the SU-33 is usually $20 ($10 on sale) by itself, so not too bad really.

I fall in and out of love with DCS.

Currenty BoX feels "better" all round, to me. DCS always feels so sterile. YMMV.

Picked up the carrier though and looking forward to what DCS *and* BoX etc will bring us in the future.

For me the one that I was likely to be able to not only learn, but more importantly REMEMBER how to operate after a few weeks/months of not flying it would be the primary deciding factor. :)

Indeed!

I admit to not learning any of the planes 100%. I get into each to the exact point where it's not fun anymore and then I stop there. I think the Harrier has hooked me more than any other plane. I can do the laser guided stuff and drop GPS bombs and hover land at night. It's good fun.

As to the F-18 and F-14, I really don't know. But you may have a point.

Oh, and I do write key stroke chit down sometimes. As you know, I am a bear of very little brain.

I love the DCS trailers, they sell the game after all. And I don't care that people have pointed numerous times that they use camera positions (via editing), sound and visual effects that aren't available in the sim itself, they're all still amazing trailers.

That said, I can't agree at all with what people are saying about this one. The music and or orchestral pieces are always on point for these things but the choice here is just odd. I mean despite it being a tad weird and unfitting, the fact remains that it's an anti-IRA/anti-violence of any kind protest song.

I solved this by not learning all.
I can KA 50, MI 8 , Gazelle, Huey in and out.
Harrier I can avionics and navigation. A 10 is forgotten I think. I have to try it to know

Oooh Mirage is a nice bird.

Panavia Tornado would get my juices flowing.

Really I'd like to fly a Huey through the valleys and over the ridges of Indo China...or an F4 or A4 or MiG over Indo China.

Whop Whop Whop Whop Whop Whop...not going to bother over Crimea or Vegas.

This too is my situation. The procedures get so complex that by the time I remember most of it by the time I get around to playing again  I’ve got to practically go through the whole learning process once more. That and a few other reasons are one of the chief causes of me racking up far, far more flight time in IL-2 compared to DCS. I’m an old dog and learning new tricks makes me snarl somewhat.

Pretty much the same boat I am in.

I have been trying to learn all aspects of the Hornet for months now, and not there yet.

IL-2 keeps dominating the majority of my time though.

I tend to spend more time in DCS now which is kinda weird, and kind of a shame, really. I built my rig two-years back and just dropped serious cash on a new video card a few months back, 90% just for IL2. But the weakness of IL2's in-game SP content creation, and me being a sandbox flyer, means I get bored with IL2, whereas DCS lets me do what I want to do, fast and easy. It's why I didn't pre-order BoN or the new collector planes, which in the past I would have done immediately, and instead bought DCS modules.

That being said, now I tend to learn the functions of the DCS planes more and more, especially the Harrier, and some of the manipulations of the systems is kinda interesting. I'll never learn any plane 100% - unless they make an F-104 -  but that's okay. All that matters is that it's fun.

They might have [edited] it up.

A lot of posts about the update being buggered up in some way and of anti-virus readings of a false positive and deleting a .dll file.

So far Steam won't load the update for me.

Are you on the beta branch?

If not then you can´t get the update yet as it was only released for open beta.
