Game crash/DX Error message on Nvidia 1060...

Installed anew Nvidia 1060 recently and updated to the latest NVidia driver (26.21.14.4166) and all still seemed ok until last night when the game locked (offline) and I received the following error message:

DXRenderer11::endFrame(..)
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887a0005)

Any ideas guys?

Absolute speculation on may part based on some experience but taken with some salt:  The error message sounds to potentially relate to your old drivers or card.  When you install the new NVidia drivers, did you select a "Clean" install, which removes earlier drivers?  Also if the previous video card was an AMD card, you should make sure that those device drivers have been completely uninstalled from the system.

I was playing around with overclocking my 2080ti and started getting this message, haven't crashed after going back to default settings. Could just be coincidence…

I have the same problem. My card is an NVIDIA 1070 and drivers are updated. It usually happens after about 1 h playing.  Any suggestion?

As Yuba said above. Had this too when playing with overclocking. Stopped doing it and it did not happen any more. If you are not overclocking maybe it gets hot? Dust?

Have changed from RX 460 to new GTX1660 and get the same problem so I think that probably rules out overheating.

you get the same message when updating to Radeon Drivers in the latest version 20.2.1
(DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887a0005))
The only difference is that the exception catcher textstring refers to missing textures.. fe:
Graphics/Textures/Effects/Oil.dds  ... then different subfolders with files like ScreenBorder.dds

Those files and subfolders do (currently) not exist or at least I was never aware of them and they got somehow removed.
I presume that a future update will somewhat fix the issue and we may get a workaround instruction shortly.

In the meantimer running the DX repairer in the game files via  IL-2 Great Battles/data/updater/3rd party/dx/DXSETUP.exe can't be a bad idea as stated here:

My mate also having this problem and i just found this for him to try.
Might work with il2 and help you guys i hate to see anyone unable to play as we have such a tiny community here.

Also Just To clarify when you install Nvidia Drivers.
the previous version is always completely uninstalled regardless of it you select "Clean" or not.
Clean only removes your "Settings" file which saves things like Game profiles,
Monitor profiles and other GPU settings like overclocks.
It does not effect how much of driver files and DLL's are deleted when updating.
every update with Nvidia is a complete clean install there is no Need to use driver uninstaller like DDU

Also to remove any chance of other Errors there is 1 Thing ALL IL2 PLAYERS MUST SET (NO CHOICE)
CORRECT IL2 Profile in Nvidia control panel is Mandatory.

oh dear... regedit.. well.. i can only wish all Nvidia users best of luck.
As an update for AMD/Radeon users - after reading some former and current patchnotes I tried to just disable Radeon Image Sharpening.
The game loaded to the UI music with some artefacts in the black screen.. the login screen never appeared.. but the "failed to open .... /folder/folder/xyz.dds" exception catcher textstrings were gone, replaced by a "proper" recurring:

 image.png.263a0fdb19c37425f5c21d486b91dd94.png

Progress! Somewhat.

IL-2 also remained resonsive in the system tray/task manager instead of crashing down.
All testing has to be done with "fullscreen" option in the launcher game settings disabled, or your system will lock.
So if some fellow Radeon user gets lucky from here on out, please do not hesitate to post.
Of course if I should get lucky I shall also not fail to do so (well.. I guess I have to spike my tea now... oh how I miss coffee...)

Of course the responsible choice is to simply stay on the "recommended" 20.1.3 suite and associated drivers and not try the "optional" 20.2.1 release - although in all fairness it must be put into perspective that on my end neither an extremely mod heavy ARMA campaign, DCS, Star Citizen (of all things) were affected in any way, unlike IL-2.

UPDATE: after I could not isolate the cause (which I was looking for to better understand other potential issues) any further I did a driver rollback to 20.1.3 and a fresh install into a different folder - I now adjust my settings and inputs 1 by 1 trying to discern how the game behaves with certain settings. It works.. but it still should be more resilient to changes other complex products are not affected by.

What do you mean by 'correct Il2 profile'? Just wondering if I have this set up right...

Is everyone here updated to the latest drivers? If it only started occurring after a driver update, maybe a rollback is possible?

@RedKestrel
I mean this profile it is Mandatory for ALL Il2 users running Nvidia.
iy81.jpg
These settings are old and from 2018 drivers,
(by "this profile" i do NOT mean these settings are mandatory just creating a Profile itself it Mandatory for correct performance of GPU)

I cant make a new version as new drivers not installed.
Main things are
- Power management - max perf
- Anisotropic and Anti A - application controlled
- Max pre-rendered frames - 1~3 depends on cpu power
- Making over 80-100fps  - Turn on Fast sync
- Texture Filtering - High Quality if good fps, High performance if "issues"
- Shader Cache - ON

I run Drivers 399.xx from 2018 because i am on Windows 7 Pro with old FX8350 and DDR3 Motherboard.
Drivers Pre RTX work much better for IL-2

My Specs and Performance.
FX8350 @ 4.4Ghz
GTX1060 6GB @ 2.15Ghz on 50" 4K OLED Tv 60hz (1ms)
- 3440 x 1440P.
- Ultra Preset.
- Extreme clouds.
- All terrain and spotting on MAX Range.
70-90 fps online in Multiplayer
80-100 fps Offline.

If you are on Newer Intel or Ryzen with faster ram with the "amazing win10" should get better Performance.

Fast-Sync can good if you DON'T use/have g-sync.
