PatrickAWlson Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I always knew that pilots of WWI planes looked OVER their wing all the time. With VR that is now a reality. In real life the top wing was quite low. Pilots looked over it when flying and would generally sink down for the letter slot view when aiming to fire. Took the Pfalz up and the wing suddenly looked like a wing, and did not obscure upward vision the way a flat screen does. Just an amazing extra bit of immersion and also incredibly valuable for SA> 3
=420=Syphen Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Yep. Flying Circus is best enjoyed in VR. Hands down, a great experience!!
J37_Spyboy Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Which VR set do you guys use please? Is it easy to set up? Salute
FTC_Snowy Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I use the Valve Index with just one base station J5_Spyboy. Very easy to set up. I rate it highly.
PatrickAWlson Posted January 2, 2020 Author Posted January 2, 2020 I just got a reverb. Pretty easy to set up. I had issues getting the bluetooth controllers to pair but once that was done everything was fine. Setting up Steam VR to work with WMR is very easy - just install a Steam plugin. Very happy with it.

I love VR for the feeling of "being there", but I also find it a tad exhausting to fly with a headset strapped to my face for more than 30 minutes, and I find visibility at a distance just not good enough (this has to do with my graphics settings, which I refuse to compromise on). Samsung Odyssey+ WMR here. Overall I'm very happy with it, though I've gone back to TrackIR for IL-2/FC.
J37_Spyboy Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Thank you pilots, I will look at these and explore a little further. Interesting to note that J5_Hellbender-SCH27b has gone back to TrackIR and his comments on spotting at a distance. Salute
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 My reason to go back to TIR "I tested IL-2 VR with latest devices (Rift-S, Reverb, Index, Odyssey+, Pimax5K+ or 8K) but it didn´t convince me the VR device, so waiting for future better VR generations"
TAAC_Blue Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 @J5_Hellbender-Sch27b and anyone else concerned about spotting or ID'ing at longer distances should give this a shot. I use the game VR zoom while scanning and then the 5x zoom from the mod to help ID. You'll need to use joy2key or similar if you want to map the mod zoom to your stick. I use the Rift S Spyboy. Its easy to set up, and isn't a bad headset for the price. I use opencomposite to bypass SteamVR which gets me better performance in-game.
