il2crashesnfails Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) Does upgrading the weapons of the he-111 to cannon really help any when fighting off fighters? What do you guys think ? are you ever worried when attacking the he-111? For me when there is a lone 111 i'm not that concerned, however, if there is a formation I usually sustain alot of damage. To be fair Il2, it'd be probably more truthful to just say you usually sustain a lot of damage, without the bit before it!! Oh, by the way, I didn't send you a card did I? Here y'go and make sure you have a GREAT New Year mate!! 2
Pict Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) The He-111 is "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" at least according to this October 2016 video by the ZETEXY CHANNEL on YouTube (excellent videos) 7 hours ago, il2crashesnfails said: What do you guys think ? are you ever worried when attacking the he-111? No worries, it's a large easy target if you use the right technique. Ie., fly parallel to the bombers 11 or 1 o'clock high out of it's gun range, then turn towards it making a diving / slashing attack at about 45 deg., following though till you come out about the bombers 5 o'clock low out of gun range. Then use the speed you built up to zoom climb and turn onto the bombers heading on the opposite side to where you started. Repeat as needed If executed properly, this technique gives you a decent shot at the most vulnerable parts of the bomber, cockpit, fuel tanks & engines, plus bomb load if it's there. While at the same time making you the most difficult target for the bomber gunners, as you will be moving fast in all 3 axis, x,y & z. Edited December 28, 2019 by Pict Spelling errors 2

Also I have a question Raptor, do you know how to switch to the camera view of other planes that are friendlies? I know how to view enemy just not other planes in my flight. 28 minutes ago, Pict said: The He-111 is "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" at least according to this October 2016 video by the ZETEXY CHANNEL on YouTube (excellent videos) No worries, it's a large east target if you use the right technique. I try to follow what you suggest but I always end up on a bombers tail. I think I sustain most damage in that position. Need to follow advice and attack on 45 degree angle.

It takes a little bit of practice and a little patience, but it' s worth it to avoid getting shot up or shot down every time you attack a bomber. I made a track about the way I do this, I'll see if I still have it and upload it for you. It could be a good subject for a video, comparisons of different attack techniques when doing bomber intercept. Attacking from the bomber 6 is still doable, but to avoid getting yourself shot down, you need to shoot from a very long range, significantly reducing your number of rounds on target. The other problem attacking from 6 o'clock is that the cockpit is armored and the fuel tanks & engines show their smallest profile. So all up you are more likely to run out of ammo before doing any serious damage. This leads people to get impatient and pull closer to the rear gunners and the inevitable bullets in the face The thing people often forget when on a bombers 6 is the speed of the bomber. You need to subtract that from your own speed to realize that you are (in relation to the bomber), moving relatively slowly in one axis, the easy one for the bomber gunners. Monostripezebra Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 The He-111 was a really good design when it was first built, but by end of 1940 it was just getting old and outclassed and no amount of defensive weapons can change that.. with the way you can fly it in Il2 you can actually do some things with it, but in the end the Ju-88 was the much more modern plane, but it is kind of a bit held back in Il2 because it´s defensive capabilities are a bit undermodeled (no turnable Linsenlafette, weak caliber guns with typical sim behaviour of the fighters pressing on, despite getin hit)
Pict Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 (edited) @il2crashesnfails here's that track file I mentioned earlier. https://workupload.com/archive/qrRCxjD When you get into the swing of it, pretty much literally as you pendulum from side to side, you can see how easy it is to make a deflection shot. Just line up a bomber and let it walk along your horizontal sight line till your happy to fire. Hope this helps. Edited December 29, 2019 by Pict Spelling

I must maintain distance like you suggest if i find myself in that attacking position. 11 hours ago, Raptorattacker said: L Shift + F2 mate. Simples. To me the the ju-88 just looks smaller. 6 hours ago, Pict said: @il2crashesnfails here's that track file I mentioned earlier. https://workupload.com/archive/qrRCxjD When you get into the swing of it pretty much literally, as you pendulum from side to side, you can see how easy it is to make a deflection shot.
