Where are the French?!

One thing that's always astounded me is that there are Jastas everywhere, one or two RFC units that are trying to start out, and even the American Pursuit Squadrons....

....but not a single French Escadrille!

Oh, neat!

I should have specified, though - I'm amazed there are no historical French WW1 Escadrilles...I would have thought that there would at least be a virtual Esc. 3 by now! We flew with a guy that wanted to start one in RoF but it was always just him on his own...

There was some in the heyday of RoF (I flew sometimes with my friends of N62) . But in FC, it's as if the French wings hadn't flown in 14/18: it doesn't promote vocations

Yeah, it's a shame not to see any historical French units over the front. I, for one, would love to see SPA. 94. That was a good-looking unit...I think RoF's Escadrilles were before my time, sadly! (as was much of RoF's history)

Eh, I can say this because I'm half-French myself, but the French aren't exactly into the whole cosying up with the English-speaking community side of things. Not that they don't speak it, just that they refuse to do so. On the other hand, places like checksix-fr.com are quite active.

EDIT: That's why we have quite a few more Belgians and Italians here, even though starting a squadron around one of these air forces isn't exactly easy either.

French air traffic control have been known to cause crashes by refusing to speak English.

I take great offence at that image in the context of this topic.

"French" fries are most definitely a Belgian invention, even though this says otherwise.

Correct - and not to mention that the French never ever claimed the "pommes frites" as their patrimony. That's simply an Anglo Saxon simplification to

classify people from other countries - like the "Krauts" etc.

Like those other popular English usages, "les boche"  and "les rosbifs".   Where I live the locals cannot tell the difference between French people and the English: we are all "farang", which is a shortened form of "farangset" which originally meant "French" but "farang" now just means "whitey"! :)

It might help FC to have more frogs French players if the map included parts of the front where the French were active.

I believe the question was about French-themed virtual squadrons (most J5 are from US, and J2 have no two members from the same country). Not French langueage ghetto squadron a'la 1PL or J99.

I can't say for other people, but for me the problem with French was choice of planes. Every plane they used in RoF was also used by someone else. I always thought that the best way to fly the balkanised Entente planeset would be to create virtual BMA - they flied everything they could get their hands on. (It had long been my plan for rainy day to get Bender out of retirement and start one. Not gonna happen, now).

I'm french and won't buy the game know that I'm aware about it.

After all this war happened on our land and is still a mass trauma for us  so, what the hell???????? It's nearly offending to see a Nieuport flying in the game but no french escadrille...

Don't let it affect your view of FC1; these groups are formed by players, not the Devs.   If it offends you that there is no Lafayette Escadrille; why not start one yourself?

Guims we are speaking specifically about player ran MP Squadrons. Dont let the lack of French Escadrilles put you off from buying the game. As Todt said above, create your own. It would be awesome to see some SPAs online to fly alongside with.

If we had a Hanriot and forming a historical Belgian 9 Squadron with Hanriots and Camels would be on the table, I'd feel morally obliged to buy a second account just to be BMA9_Coppens at least one day a week (Willy is from the same suburb of Brussels as me). Maybe we could also get @West and @Razneff on board.

I'll always be your side bitch, Trupo. Still, my heart belongs to this man:

You can count me in Bender;

Razneff would be great!

Since most now have a laptop on the coffee table or godforbid just a tablet or gsm it sounds very inhibiting to propose getting a foot rudder, Trackir, miced headset and that just in case they already have a twist stick.
Adding familiarising themself with it untill able to handle 1 or 2 ROF AI at say 1500m might take some time all the while reminding your ’ll always be available and you probably wont hear from them again, or if lucky after a ROF install and with just their stick. So giving it a bit of a MP go and their presence just peters out probably after realising the stuff still on the shopping list, the setting up and the place it will take in the family home.
Between 2011 and 2014 I was 1/2 of an SPA124 Lafayette Escadrille while my CO, a Brusselss guy with call name DKE, was waiting for a rejoinder from former French RB members only they came 1 at a time the next always after the previous had already left.
So when we did fly together it mostly was with the AB1 guys.

Baeumer actively scours the patient lists from asylums across the globe for new recruits.

What Oben said. Start your own! We're talking about player-made squadrons such as Jasta 2, US103, etc. There needs to be an Esc. !

That's why I was hoping a virtual No.23 RFC existed before signing up with the USAS. Albeit not quite WW1 related, Douglas Bader of WW2 fame, a 23 RAF pilot, lived just around the corner from me!

Back in the early 60-ies it was still quite dangerous to drive on French N routes (not many motorways yet). This after lunch time, swaggering lorries etc. Saw it as a kid then.

Now i wonder if there was some reason also for the lack of French escadrilles in WW1?
