Skin not saving correctly in GIMP

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I've recently gotten back into skinning and I'm having trouble (I assume) with saving the file correctly in gimp. I've been saving the skin with the dds setting pictured, but the skin shows up as blank in the viewer. I've used photoshop most of my life, so I'm a bit lost in gimp and I'm not sure where I'm doing things wrong.

You need to use 'Export As' rather than 'Save' or 'Save as'. Your settings are fine; it's what I use.

So it actually looks like when I export a dds file it only exports the active layer (the layer that is selected) and not the whole image. Ideas as to what settings I may need to change for that?

EDIT: No matter which options I select for compression, the 'save: selected layer' dropdown is always greyed out and I cant change it

@HotWaffleDid you flatten the image and added the alpha layer before exporting?

I did and it has solved the issue. Thanks!

I never flatten the image. Instead I use "copy visible" (shift+ctrl+C) and "paste as new" (shift+ctrl+V). Then I can add my alpha channel to the new image.

I've used flatten image in the past and inadvertently saved my template once flattened and couldn't get it back.

@Megalax I´ve no idea what you´re talking about...?

Actually, I trolled myself by exactly doing that working on the A-20B USN-skin... ?
