DELTA111 Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 (edited) Object markers can be blocked by airframe was introduced with update 3.201. I understand that this was because players were saying it wasn't good for immersion in VR. I play in VR and now you have removed what I enjoyed most, and that was lining up the bomb assist reticule with the enemy ground object marker, dropping bombs and switching to released weapon view and watching the impact. And a direct hit was still not guaranteed. Thats how it had been for the last 6 years or so since the game was released, now its changed. Can we please have a configurable option in regards to this change please. A mod had previously been released before the change to allow a key press to change between object markers visible behind airframe and not visible so it cant be difficult to implement. If somebody could point out which file can be altered to enable object markers visible through cockpit that would be appreciated. Secondly what am I missing in that with careers that have been created there is no mouseover that indicates what type of aircraft the pilot is flying. Although there is for rank and squadron insignia. Edited November 13, 2019 by DELTA111 1
SharpeXB Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 You should try turning off the icons. This is a simulator after all, icons are for arcade games. People wanted the icons hidden by objects because being able to see them through things makes them even more unrealistic than they already are. Try bombing without the aim assist and challenge yourself more. 1

It is more challenging and for some (including me) more immersive and more fun, but we should cater for other play styles and preferences too. This is especially true in VR since spotting anything at all, especially ground targets, is very difficult without icons enabled. I'm glad that they finally added the blocking of icons by objects and the fuselage, but I'm certainly not opposed to it being a toggled option so that both styles can be used. More options are a good thing. 1
Talon_ Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Spotting is easier in VR, it's identification which is harder.

These indicators, icons and other arcade type helpers allow these friends to try the game in a casual way. These friends then have fun in casual setting, maybe they get into the hobby. Then maybe these friends try the harder modes later on. I tried to keep the sentences short so you'd understand them. Edited November 14, 2019 by [_FLAPS_]Dirt_Merchant spullung nad tpyos 1 1 1

It’s amazing that flight sim players need so much help in this regard when no other game type I’m aware of puts tags and markers over your enemies. Can you imagine an FPS game with colored icons floating over your opponents to give them away? Isn’t having a challenge part of what makes a game fun? Do you want to see all the lush graphics spoiled by colored tags? That’s my opinion anyways. Suit yourself... I think icons are a silly feature for a simulator. I’ll bet Tank Crew has icons too as if any other ground combat game would need them. Icons in these sims have convinced players that it’s supposed to be “easy” to see other aircraft which then leads to all these ridiculous visibility discussions. Even as a new player the best thing you can do for your learning curve is to turn them off and never use them. They’ll become an incredible crutch otherwise and you’ll never learn to see anything. 40plus Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 "Joy of mastery" is a real thing. Becoming proficient at something that is difficult is infinitely more rewarding than having training wheels all over everything. That being said . . . . I use icons . . . . and I greatly prefer the current implementation with them being occluded when line of site isn't there. 1

I agree with alot of your viewpoints @SharpeXB most of them in fact, but I do think you're commonly on the hardliner stance with alot of issues. These things dont have to be black and white. Icons have a place, just not for my personal use;) 1
