We have seen a few more of those recently. Lets keep the positive buzz going!

Yeah there is still like five more maps than DCS.

We certainly need more maps or this game will be a dead end in the long run.

Not so much

Does anyone know what seasons this card will have? Only summer or will there be winter as well?

I would like to eventually see a nasty winter map with only patches of snow and lots of mud.

I'm guessing just summer as that's when the battles around Odessa were fought for the most part.

BTW: These tend to be called 'maps' here. Russian translation calls it a 'card' which I find fascinating.

Many languages use the same word for "map" and "card", including my own native tongue.

Look at previous page about 'map' and 'card'. ;)

Also hoping the Great Luke summer card is still coming as well.

I'm just used to reading the translated Russian forums as the developers seem to be a bit more active there.

I'm not up to date to this thread, but there were rumors that someday maybe there will be a Murmansk map?
Can anyone fill me in if this is true and when yes, if there's an eta yet?
Thanks!

Posted

I believe it was being worked on by a 3rd party, but that has now stopped.

I'm not sure of it's status now...

I also want murmansk. It would be awesome if it could be finished up officially and released along with kuban map like lapino with the Stalingrad map.

Last i heard the person developing it had to drop out of the project (health reasons i believe??).

Hi Jade, I remember that the Odessa map appeared once in a DEV letter, with the yak1b, but never heard of it untill I saw your post today, is it will be realesed with the Kuban map? Is it will be a part of Kuban map?

No, it is being developed by community members and it will be released later. This is not an official map, so no guarantee of any kind it will come out any time soon.

Is there any news about the Odessa project?

On the Russian forum there was a hint at some interesting news and screenies. But that was posted in July already.

And according the Russian forum there also seems to be a Karelia map in the making?

Because they look for a 3D modeler to create Leningrad houses etc.

Karelia would be fantastic!

Do you have any links to news about such a project?

Is it the Karelia map Kanttori wanted to do?

I haven't heard anything about Odessa in some time now. Karelia is new. A Murmansk map was also started (and then stopped) a while back.

It's a massive undertaking.

Karelia... ooh please dooo. I would pay 100euros if it would come with Brewster ..even if only Brewster... Yeah dream on...

I think they said they were waiting for the Kuban map to be released because Odessa will share some of the new tech.

As far as I remember he volunteered to participate.

He does have some experience with it, he created the same area for another flight sim quite some time ago and started a redo of the stock Gulf of Finland map of good old IL2:1946. Never came to completion though.

Yeah, they waited for the Kuban map to be released. The new water technique had something to do with it.

There is a working version for the old Il-2 map, but yeah never came to full completion, because he switched to flying BoS. So naturally he wants to do the map for BoS :)

I'm curious about something. We are now going to get the new RoF`s flying circus and it will be updated with the same simulation machine as BoX. The maps we have for the old RoF, Western Front, English Channel and maybe Tarnapol will eventually be upgraded or rebuild. Is it possible that new RoF's maps from 1915 - 1918 also be updated to BoX 1939 - 1945 maps and vice versa.I think this would be a good opportunity for the developers to get two birds in one stone.(Although it will be a little extra effort to investigate the variations of landscapes, villages and cities between World War I and World War II over the same map.) Personaly i doubt that we will get a WW1 version of the BoBP map, because of little air activity in World War 1I know it has been discussed previously here in forum, but it turned out that BoS and old RoF's maps were incompatible. Different sim engine between old RoF and BoX.

Since RoF`s flying circus was announsed does anyone else think that this might be a possibility?

It would certainly be nice to get new versions of the Great War maps. However, I'm not sure how useful they would be for Second World War scenarios with the aircraft that are available. Nevertheless, some 'Me 262 over the Channel' alternate history would be fun.

I think combining the WWI and WWII aircraft into the same game engine should help with map creation as the features of the landscape between those two conflicts would be little altered as is the case for most of the population centres, two period maps could be created of the same area with only a need to update things like airfields and any new building projects that appeared between the wars.

The current community WIP maps would greatly add to the diversity of the current content and it is to be hoped that 1C/777 might actually help the community finish those using their own resources because without the development teams help they could possibly fail to finish them on their own.

To have Karelia, Murmansk and Odessa available to use with the current plane set would add considerably to keeping the existing player base occupied and hopefully encouraging the wider community to become involved with this series and the future developments proposed, also if the third party groups prove able to meet the exacting standards of the current team maybe the plane and vehicle set could expand even further and quicker than is the case at the moment allowing the main team to concentrate on the new theatre but at the same time providing further input into the existing ones.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

I wonder if there is anything new going on with the 3rd party cards. It's been silent for a long time.

If there's a way to upgrade the RoF Channel map and bring it into BoX, then there's just about enough air assets to make for a pseudo-1941 or -1942 theatre, with the Spit Vb, Kittyhawk and Boston vs 109E and F, Ju 88 and He 111H6.

I would pay for the channel map again to have it in some version of BOX.  I bought it when it came out but due to having a poor performing laptop at the time wasn't able to use it in MP or for missions due to extreme slow-down.  I would use it to just fly around for many happy hours: taking off in Blighty and heading over the channel to land.

Now I have a new and capable machine the chances to use the map have reduced - although mainly due to me flying BOX more frequently, however I would love to see it again in some form.

Just curious if anyone knows if the CR.42 was used in the Odessa region in 41?  I've read that it was in the general area but not sure how close to the city.  Whats your opinions on the Falco as collector aircraft?

Not any references that I can find. Do happen to know which unit?

I was actually wondering about advocating for two aircraft as hypothetical future Collector Planes in connection with the Odessa map. The first one makes a lot of sense to me: A late series I-153 bi-plane fighter for VVS side. Used as a fighter and in close air support for quite some time. At the start of the conflict it was used quite a lot. The second one, and I'm less certain of its Odessa connections, is the Hs123. Another bi-plane aircraft and one used mostly for close air support. Interestingly I do know that it fought at Moscow and at Stalingrad. The two would be an interesting pair to offer.

The Hungarians used the Cr-42 in the east, but not over Odessa.
