Will there be other maps?

I think it would be kind of cool if the map makers could 'sign' their work in the form of a landscape feature. Kind of how a painter signs his or her name on the canvas.

I think you can be sure they leave a few Easter Eggs in there that only they themselves know about...

Anyway, good to hear Andrei is well. I'd still love to see all those wip shots that I seem to have missed over the last couple of months.

This is bad news for the map of Murmansk.

A question for Zeus:

At t he started working on the map Summer / Fall Veliki-luki?

I understand a team member left but is there any update as to whats happening with this project now?

If I remember correctly Zeus has done some work towards that but as of now it is not the main project (something among these lines). I could be wrong.

What is the situation with the Velikie Luki and Murmansk summer maps now? We Finns are really waiting for them both!

Is that Dev map the area between Vidyayevo and Gaziyevo to the north of Murmansk?

Posted

Can someone translate? Does this mean the Murmansk map is still underway? Last I heard it had been abandoned.

If that's really the Murmansk area, why is Zeus posting these sceenshots, has the development team taken over the Murmansk project? Or could this be from a Caucasus map?

Easy, comrades. :)

This is not an official project of the company. This is one of the comunity projects (like VL-map). And it is not a Murmansk-map.

Perhaps, when the most of the preparatory work is completed, the creators of this map will make same kind of presentation of it.

I've been involved in this work more as a assistant.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks Zeus! And good luck to the community project! I guess FF*VaSoK*22 is involved in this project.

So basically, your screenshot and VaSoK screenshots are taken on the same wip map?

No. It is different projects.

Posted

Good to see that there's lots of activity in the Russian community.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of elevation data are people using to create the height maps? SRTM1 data?

Posted

Good that there is activity  :)

But could You clarify?

as I understand (and I may have got it wrong)

There are 3 map projects running

1. Murmansk (which has gone dormant due to RL issues from main member of team)

2.VaSoK project (for want of a better name)

3. the project you put screenshots of

Thanks to all who use their creativity skill and time to make things more enjoyable for the masses

Cheers Dakpilot

There are deciduous trees and mountains so it's not Murmansk for sure. Not many trees grow up there and for sure not deciduous. If it's in Russia, its Caucasus area.

Second top view map pics are also not Murmansk Imho. Looks more like Karelia to me.

End of speculations :D

That Vasok map looks a bit like Crimea. I can only imagine that sea to be the black sea and crimea has beautiful mountains too.

Hopefully one of them is an updated Rise of Flight map.

I was a fan of DiFiS maps in RoF.. I´d love to see some BoS/BoM maps from him, or other equally talented guys...

Crimea map would be fantastic news.. but based on those screenshots, it looks like Kuban, Caucasus or Crimea to me?

It makes sense for a third-party to do Crimea map as the developers themselves will probably not touch this region for political reasons.

Not Kuban - someone checked in the Russian forums, the Kuban river runs the opposite way. Crimea would be great too, for sure, but I don't think the devs give a hoot about what the US, EU or Bob's mom's political position is. It was 1941/2/3/4, not 2014, no controversy there.

It doesn't quite look like Karelia either to me... I'm very curious :)

I put a guess at russian forum. Razdolnaya river,Far East Front. It will be Manchuria 1945,be sure.Hiro will be happy

This being a community project I doubt that a little ('45 map) but lets see :)

I doubt it too (mostly lack of opposition) but for that matter the aircraft involved during the Manchuria Offensive Operation were a very big mix of new stuff and obsolete types. Even the TB-3, SB and Li-2 had a go as bombers there (see order of battle here) while flying with Pe-2, Tu-2, Yak-9, P-63 and other modern designs.

Some of those posted screenshots intrigued me. Especially, the night time one.

Assuming that the map is correctly placed on the world...

And assuming that the IL-2:BoS astronomy model is okay (which it seems to be)...

Then I can get this:

post-71162-0-67867400-1467853278_thumb.jpg

This analysis points to an approximate latitude of 44-46 degrees.

The expanse of water extends to the west.

The timing of the lunar phase and position is consistent with several possible dates:

1941-11-02

1942-10-22

1943-10-13

1944-10-30

1944-11-25

The best match, in my opinion is1943-10-13.

Given the position of the constellation of Cetus, and trying to calibrate the scales, this is a western-looking view, just before moonset. The time of day is approximated 02:00 UTC (note, UTC, not local time!).

Trying to place this geographically, I would estimate Kuban. I experimented with Crimea, but the match is not as good.

Thus, I assert that this screenshot was taken from a Kuban map, dated 13-Oct-1943.

Nice one Dietrich! So, looks like Kuban for VaSoK & co map project.

About the other map project with Zeus working as an assistant, he said it matched quite well with current planeset (with some planes missing)... Finland?

With all this, my bet for 1CGS next theatre goes to... Leningrad!

If they want to follow 8+2 AC model for next expansion, they really must come with smtg late 43/early 44 . Otherwise it will be recycling of what we allready have. Personally I don't see this model viable to the future, because for eastern front we allready have majority of mainstay fighters and bombers and all other expansions will bring their upgraded models. Not a problem for me,but they don't feel much positive towards early Yak or LaGG models implementation and the same would be with messers and Fws. For Kuban we could hope for Cobra at best but the rest will be leftovers from BoS. Yak-1b or Yak-7 will be hardly done. La-5F with high gargot will also be hardly a teaser for VVS pilots. Same as Gustav or Fw with higher nr. behind the designation. That's why I'm really looking forward what will come next. I feel change is coming with how next expansions will look like.

You are scary man.And you don't know where I live and what I do for a living right?

Scary scary scary to even guess the date I think he is logged on to the CIA network.

Some great speculation here - and speculate is what we on this forum do best! Great to hear from Zeus, and I'm amazed that there's more than one "unofficial" map slowly gestating!

Yep!  But...why is that?

Yep,Odessa. Great choice. Now we only need IAR80 and I-153 and fun can begin!

Yes, it's roughly the area we had on the Bessarabia map from the old Il-2. Not a bad choice.
