New Players Flying Circus FAQ

If I buy both Volumes 1 and 2 from the IL2 site as standalones (outside of Steam, without Stalingrad or the other WW2 DLC), does the content from one transfer over to the other (do the two games merge into one)? - or do they need to be run as separate applications depending on which planes I want to fly?

I guess what I’m asking is, is it like RoF, where I log in to access my purchased aircraft from one game without the need for two icons on my screen?

Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to getting the game - just wondering which will be more convenient, modules or Steam DLC.

Thanks!

As long as you buy them for the same account, it's all there like rof.

I would not buy through steam unless you already have.

Hello, I have yet to purchase this flight sim. but will be doing so today. What exactly do I need in order to get started? I'm primarily interested in WWI aircraft. Can I just get away with Flying Circus Vol. 1 OR do I need something else to get started? Greatly appreciate your help. I'm also a model (plastic) builder and the work that went into these airplanes is stunning. Thanks again.

If you're 'testing the water' then yeah, you can just get away with FC v1, especially if you're primarily into WW1 planes. Be warned though, it won't take long before you're gonna get into the realms of, at least, FC v2!! It doesn't take long before you enter the 'keeping up with the Jones's' mindset, trust me!!

By the way, I'm not being at all derogatory to the game, I'm just speaking from experience. If Mrs Rap actually knew what the stuff I've got actually cost then... well, I shudder to think!!!

Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Moscow, Battle of Kuban, Battle of Bodenplatte, Battle of Normandy, Flying Circus Volume 1, Flying Circus Volume 2 and Tank Crew. All these are part of the same game. So if you have the game installed already for Volume 1 then you do not need to do any further installation. Just purchase Volume 2 and your additional aircraft should be available for your account to use. Just run the game and you should see the modules you have available listed on the right side (and you should now be able to use the aircraft they provide in the Quick Missions and elsewhere).

Probably a stupid question but I cannot find an answer to it on the forums, I've bought both FCI as well as FCII but I cannot find the Career Mode, I have it for the WWII modules but not for WWI, am I missing something?

The Career Mode is coming out with the new map for FC II. Should be here soon, some say 2 weeks and other 6 to 12 months. Who knows.

OK! Thanks! I'll wait then, 2 weeks or 6 to 12 months ?

Hi,

I'm fairly new to IL2 and FC, so please forgive me if I'm asking a question that has already been answered: I'm trying to figure out how to manually work the radiator control on the Phalz D.IIIa, and I can't figure out what to bind. Could someone please point me to the correct item in "Input Settings" that I can bind to a slider on my TM Warthog HOTAS so I can control the radiator temps in manual mode?

Thank you in advance!!

Not at my computer to check exact name, but all the flying circus planes use the “water radiator control axis” command that is under “engine controls” in the key bind settings.

Thank you so much!!! I was trying to bind anything that said "oil radiator". I'll try binding the water radiator control instead. Thanks again!!!!!

Nah, there's no oil radiator on them, just water so you're golden!

There is no career mode yet, although it is currently being developed to finish off the release of FC2. If you want to learn more about how to fly FC, take a look for the Jasta 5 FlugPark discord, there are usually pilots who are willing to help out from Jasta 5, other virtual squadrons, and non-aligned players. They may not always be in voice chat, but if you hop on, there's a good chance someone will join you. Even just an hour with a decent instructor will really help you learn how to handle the old wood-and-canvas machines.

bonsoir, j'ai toute la collection de jeux il2 sur steam sauf FC2, ma question est-ce qu'il y a une différence avec le jeu FC2 de steam ou celui du site ? Merci pour votre réponse

The difference between buying FC2 on STEAM and buying from the site....?  I don't have Steam, but someone who has/knows will likely respond here to that question.

Hi Guys, I'm putting together a list of FC Server Discord channels ideally with the idea that a new player can easily find the links on each and every server. Presently links are found on some servers, not others, some websites, not others, and here on the forum hidden amongst all the questions like, "How do I start my engine?"

We should make it as simple as possible for new players to navigate onto our MP servers. Any suggestions on how best to get the word out? Please feel free to contact me on discord if you have a sqn discord listing: Col Ninny#9071 Cheers,

@=OPFR=ColNinny Thanks for your efforts to help with the UX around here.  May I suggest you review again the maintained links to everything you mention that is already being curated in the OP on this thread?  It might be most impactful to build upon what has already been built by pointing people to this FAQ thread rather than recollecting links etc. that are already mostly contained in the OP sections, and (re) creating yet another thread for new players to find.  If you have suggestions or additions to this FAQ that you would like to recommend, feel free to PM me and we can go from there.  As you can see in the posts above additions and requests for revisions are welcome.

Welcome @RoterTod!  There are a lot of ways to get plugged in and meet players actively playing Flying Circus.  Some of the easiest will be connecting with us on the Flugpark server (game and discord).  You'll need a headset with microphone; doesn't need to be expensive (under $20).  Once you are on comms it will be easy for you to get all your questions answered etc. There is even a community training program we have on discord for newer players like you!  So check out the links in the FAQ in the original post above.  We look forward to seeing you and talking to you soon!

I just got FC III, I also have been flying the original. But I never finished a carrer. Is is shameful to jump right into the FC III carrer or should I start the FC I career? (By the way, is it improved now compared to the career when it was launched?)

thanks comrades!
