Today I was on a map of the mountains!  Yes, it is beautiful, very!  There is a minus that the flight altitude gives the advantage of f7f.  But there were no real players on the map today.  And yes, I landed a dolphin on a mountainside!  ;-)))

It's a chore swapping my gaming computer and Scorpion rig back and forth between 2D and 3D.  But I do have an older gaming computer that (last week) needs a new motherboard (got it now; not installed) and will (soon) be upgraded with Windows 10.  I also have spare CH stick and pedals so I'll set-up that rig for ROF and TIR using our Samsung monitor.

 

You mentioned some numbers online at ROF; who's flying?  

 

Wouldn't mind fighting Mamo again.  I'd like that, actually.  He didn't speak English and couldn't read my phonetic Russian  but we developed an understanding.  Instead of crying about getting rammed, I just went looking for him and did the exact same thing.  After that he  posted a smiley and from that point on we had many excellent fights and he always tried to avoid ramming me.  But then there was an online campaign against him and after that he stopped flying.  I hope he didn't quit altogether.  Have you seen him around lately?

 

Would like to fight Moro again, too.  And Sudo, Blaster, Sarge, Ace, Voss, Ken, and a lot of others who come to mind.  Any of them around these days?

 

See you there.   And thanks for the maps.  I'll fly them offline when I get time.

Hey Todt,

Mamo's still around. I used to cry about getting rammed . In fact he was on my FC server a couple of times, but has gone back to RoF.

Sudo's back after an absence, Rimmer was on last night, Stan.. a few names, plus there's always a few new ones surprisingly. Although a new name doesn't necessarily = new pilot !

Thanks for supporting the server, maybe see on RoF next..

Dear short attention span ww1 junkies,

 

Just to let you know that my maps are now generously being hosted on another server !

It's called 'Hotrod Server', although in the server listing it begins "April 1918..."

 

A big thanks to dhyran for putting them up, those who supported Zoo Wings, and I encourage pilots to go and have some fun on my awesome maps in their new locality.

You could do with running these again Zoo, Agent is at the moment trying to get a Troll server up, I think once that's set up I will make the move over to FC, it's just an  all round better concept than ROF MP. I have been using the one you reckon is some other Dev running it with your missions, although not many on it but you know yourself from ROF,once they see it is populated they will come.

Yeah sorry about that DB, the maps are run on another server so I can't change it.

I did notify the server owner a few days back, but it's still the same.

I must have moved it accidentally somehow before I sent the mission to him.

Flew on the Hot Rod server last night for the first time.  Myself (BlitzPig_EL) and Flyfish, an old friend of the Pigs, had several sorties flying Bristols, opposed by a couple of chaps who's names and squad I can't recall, apologies for that, who flew mainly the D5a.  We flew the Bristols as fighters and had some very entertaining fights against the more agile, yet slower, Albatrosses.

 

Great fun!

 

Thanks to you for the server, and to the Gents in the Kaiser's fighters for an entertaining time.

Flew on your server on Saturday.  Just a heads up.  Please stop putting "airfields" in places that are not real airfields, other than airstarts of course.  They just don't work in this sim.  The mission near Kerch that has a base on either side of the strait with the "field" lined by fires are impossible to take off from, unless you get the lucky single spawn point that actually works.  We spawned in on both the German and British bases and had nothing but broken props and wings to show for it.

 

The preceding mission on the Rhineland map was really fun, BTW.  Well except no place to land at the end of a sortie.  The band member name references for the AIs was not lost on us.   ?  You have a very good grasp of mission building, and all of the extra things the builder can do.  Thanks.

I've seen a few comments from people who don't like air starts all the time, so I thought I'd try AF's in that map.

It is extremely bumpy, but take off's and landings are possible if you concentrate hard enough !

 

I'm only running the maps myself until Hotrod server pops up again, and he hasn't got that map anyway.

It's a bit bigger than the other ones as well, so I'll take it out of the rotation.

The issue with those fields is only apparent when more than one player spawns in around the same time.  When I spawned first, I could take off.  However, those that spawned beside me either had broken wings before engine start, or broke their props when they attempted to start engines, because their wheel or wheels were sunk below the surface of the ground.

 

It's just a consequence of the way that terrain is modeled.  Terra firma this is not.

 

What is needed are placeable airfields, like we had in the original IL2. that flattened the map terrain and  also gave a proper hard surface.

Have to say tho' the latest map A good day to Douai is excellent, short journey to furball, the ai are named so your not sure if they are human or ai controlled, take off is smooth, and the scenery is great, well done zoo excellent mission.
