Tapi Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) Western allies aircrafts cannot perform sharp manouvers without losing directional gyro for about 30 seconds. That is correct, but there was also cage/ungage knob that allows pilot to cage gyro before performing violent manouver(s). Caging gyro would be helpful before perform sharp turn, combat turn, Split S , Immelman and other sharp manouvers as well as before entering the combat. After that while flying stright again one could uncage gyro and immediately can read actual direction (waiting so log for automatic gyro revival is often very distracting). That is why I vote for hot key that can cage/uncage gyro. Edited November 8, 2019 by Tapi
IRRE_Axurit Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 There is another compass in front of the stick on these planes, but it's an interesting option.
Bert_Foster Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) Gyro system needs to be re worked. In the Allied types for example the compass exhibits little to no turning errors whist the DG is all over the place. A simple reversal of these 2 effects would be more representative..... the whole purpose of the DG was to provide a stable heading source free of turning and acceleration errors ! Though a rework to simulate DG hdg drift would be even better. It would be nice to have the ability to cage those instruments that had that ability. It would be nice to be able to set the Course on the verge ring of the German Patin compass It would be nice to set the Course on the British compass as well. It would be nice to set the double arrow as a reference course on the US compass too Edited November 24, 2019 by Bert_Foster 3

sfrayner Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I noticed this right away. The DG will sometimes indicate a heading change properly the with just normal maneuvering and then it seizes and refuses to move. I learned to fly and got my Instrument Rating using using just a whiskey compass and a Directional Gyro. Disappointed that they didn't implement this vital navigation instrument.
