Discussion about Yak-9, Yak-9T and Hurricane Collector Planes Announcement

Recommended Posts

I think going back over to the Eastern Front to have the Hurricane in Moscow & Stalingrad is wonderful! The cool Yak-9's will add even more choices, and I look forward to buying them all. You folks are doing a great job, and even more than that...this game is just bad-a**!

I know y'all will do what's best, you've proven that time and again. We'll get more plane sets for the West (A Mosquito someday, I hope), and hopefully some more for the East (La-7?).

I love all the planes, although not as much as my P-38 and Bf-109 F-4/G-14. ;-) Thank you so much for an awesome game! :good::yahoo:

Not sure about the FN though, they are present in a mixed regiments along LaGGs...

@BlackSix will only the LaGG appears in those case?

Yes, we hope only the LaGGs appear.

Is the La-5FN appropriate for the Kursk map?

Posted (edited)

Agreed, unhistorical planes should definitely be marked (campaign interface) and advertised as such to avoid misinformation.
Preferably, unhistorical aircraft should not even be included.

Dreams are made of Hs 123, I-153, Hurricane, IAR-80, B-25, Ar 234, Typhoon, ...

Well, it is what it is. Let's see what (how many Hinomarus) the next instalment brings.

For the north sector of the Kursk bulge, near Orel. Our map is the south sector.

Yak-9T was also only in north part of Kursk battle ?

I read only about north sector but I didn't study this question in detail as we've no any plans to do career for the Belgorod map.

I would love an Operation Polkovodets Rumyantsev map/campaign. To me, that has always marked the beginning of the end of the war, moreso than even Op Bagration, nine months later. I'm not sure what air combat ops were like during the operation, though.

FN is also unhistoric plane for Kuban. In July 1943 all La-5 regiments left Kuban front and there was only one La-5/5F squadron till autumn. The probability that La-5FNs (which at that time were tested on the Central Front ) got there is close to zero.

How prevalent was the bubble canopy La-5F in Battle of Kuban?

  • 1CGS

AFAIK, there were only old models without bubble canopy like our La-5/5F.

Well, in Korea you had a much later Yak-9P, which was a lot more modern (500 hp more, all metal construction...) than a 1942 Yak-9. It's like using a Bf-109 E-3 in a 1945 scenario.

"Technical detail", that don't bother much the kind of "what if" players, e.g  DCS or "Fw 190 over Stalingrad", "La5-FN over Kuban", etc. ;)

Anyway any variation of Yak will don't make much difference in Korea scenery, but of course we expect the correct version .

It isn't an announcement of our next big project it's just a couple new collector planes for the Eastern front funs.

I will order both. I have a preference for the Hurricane but the two Yaks are a fine choice too.

Now speaking of a high value collector plane for which I would be ready to make a financial effort, that would be a fully flyable B16 or Lancaster bomber.

On the ETO these two four engine bombers are really kind of planes that have imprinted themselves in the collective imagination.

I know that this would be a very big investment and gobble resources, but there are other companies that did the tanks, so why not subcontract these planes (at least the structural model) to an external partner. I am sure many of us would dream to fly those planes.

@BlackSix

You confirmed us that probably the Yak-9T was also absent from the Kuban theatre. What about the Yak-9 the team is working on? I remember that some planes started to appear already in May '43, you know if they kept increasing as they replaced older models in Yak's IAP?

I like how Yaks look in general, but the Yak-9U looks super badass. Especially with this style of rear canopy section. I hope to see late war Soviet fighters in future. Like Yak-9U, Yak-3 and La-7.

The headquarters of 278th IAD got the first Yak-9 around April 20, 43th IAP from this division received them from May 2 and 15th IAP from May 16. In total there were 15-20 Yak-9 and they used simultaneously with Yak-1b and Yak-7b. Both regiments are already available in our BOK career and we will just add this plane to their list.

P-63 didn't take part in battles at the Eastern front, only in Manchuria in August 1945.

I know :salute:

It was a more veiled hope for the team to work on the Pacific/Chinese theatre one day in the future :P

I would be more than happy with an N or Q model, lots of them even in late 1944/1945

Thanks for the info on the Yak btw :salute:

For BOK career it could be added  P-39D-2, K-1, M-1 and N-0.

N-0.

N-0 would be neat, some examples were even flying (with reinforced tail) in late 1944 and it was not that different from the L model we have (main differences are engine, prop and fuel tanks I think)

Afaik, they weren't allowed and weren't supposed to take part, but in fact did. At least according to the people who flew them and fought with and against them.

By May 1, 1945 only 5 fighters were transferred to the front regiments and I know nothing about when and where they took part at fights. Maybe there is another info.

Looking forward to the yak-9s!! I'll also get the hurry - just for nostalgia purposes;)

There are several Soviet pilots who claim to have fought in P-63's in 1944/1945 Europe, as well as German claims for fighting against them, including kill claims by pilots and AAA crews. This goes against Soviet records which state that only P-39's were deployed there. It's possible the pilots didn't know which plane they were sitting in, it's possible that creative accounting permitted the VVS to use the type when officially they weren't allowed to do so. Personally I find the pilot claims credible, and I don't care enough about the Bell fighters to get to the bottom of this subject and possibly debunk them.

I'm looking forward to the Hurri too. Coincidentally, I was going through some boxes in my basement yesterday and found this gem:

Flying the Hurri IIc in Il-2:FB against big slow german bombers was probably a lot more of my childhood than I'd like to admit... The VVS theme with its bizarrely jolly brass lines is burned into my brain

I digress, but I have a lot of difficulties in playing Il2 older titles. The visuals and maps quality we have now are so much better that it hurts my eyes when I go back to them. maps are so crude compared to now. But at that time it was excellent. We are approaching photorealism in certain conditions. We are not fully there yet but I suppose in ten years or so (four graphic card generations) having better graphics will not mean much. Quality of the modeling, texture, scenarios, details on the maps, animated scenery (birds in the sky, butterflies, animals, humans moving around) etc..  that will be the challenge.

Is this something we will see more of, More collectible aircraft and tanks ? Very close to the RoF business model which I don't mind as I would like to see more aircraft and maps. If it supports fleshing out more of the game world I'm all for it

I remember playing this with my father when I was 3 back in 2001. I blame him for my love of aircraft now.
