Zooropa_Fly Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Salute ! I'm hoping to try running a server from home, initially at least for ww1 fast action dogfighting. The 1st map is ready. My Specs :- Win 7 64 Bit Intel Core i5-7600K CPU @3.8GHz 16 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX 1070 UK, BT Router, Networked via electricity supply plug-in thingy's. So I guess 1st Q. is.. is the rig up to it ? Assuming I can get away with that, I need help with port forwarding and anything else that needs done.. Do I need DServer to run it ? If anyone thinks they might be able to help I'd much appreciate it. Salute !
JimTM Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Re. DServer, see Chapter 11 in the editor manual. Re. port forwarding, you need to forward port 28000 TCP and UDP (for server/client communication), and port 28100 UDP (for downloading missions). Some people have a very hard time getting this to work and in some cases need to forward other ports. I'm not an expert on these issues though so cross your fingers and try the ports I listed (which are also in the editor manual). Sorry, I can't help with server specs. 1
WWSitttingDuck Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I don't know what you people over there use to check your internet speeds (we have speedtest.net here)...but if you can post your upload/download speeds, it would help answer your question. Your system sounds fine.... You do not need to run a dserver, you can host thru your gui, but if you think you might want to host thru a dserver, you need to do this: (from Dev team, not me) Create a DServer Account Before you can obtain and run a DServer, you must create a DServer account. The account allows you to download and use a free, limited version of IL-2 Sturmovik that includes the DServer software. This procedure shows you how to obtain the DServer account from 1C Game Studios customer service. Do the following: 1. Log in to your IL-2 Sturmovik account (the one that you purchased, not another DServer account) at http://il2sturmovik.com. 2. Click the "Support" link and then click "I have not found a solution in the FAQ". A "Contacting Customer Support" page appears. 3. Choose subject "Other (please specify)". 4. Under "Enter a subject", type "Dserver please" 5. Under "Describe the problem", type the following: "Please, provide me with a special account that I would like to use to host a dedicated server. I know that such account would not let me play the game and that it doesn’t have planes on it, and I acknowledge that such account is the property of 1C Game Studios." 6. Click "Send" to submit the request. Once you get your Dserver key, log back into Il2 with the new account you created. Click on the profile link click on license key link enter the license key you received. 1

Zooropa_Fly Posted November 1, 2019 Author Posted November 1, 2019 Yes I can log into router. I set the port forwarding rules for TCP as Jim suggested, and win firewall is set to allow incoming TCP 280000. I tried to run it for maybe around 15 hours over a couple of days last week, and since nobody logged on I assumed it wasn't visible and/or accessible to others. I know... but I figured being a new ww1 server one person at least would have popped in for a look in that time. I've just started running it, so if you get a chance to check it's visibility and accessibility I'd be most grateful. S!

Set TCP and UDP 28000 and 28100 and make sure il2.exe and dserver.exe are allowed internet access. To test your own server's accessibility, start it running then go to canyouseeme.org and enter your port numbers. 1
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 1, 2019 Author Posted November 1, 2019 I've allowed (I think) Il2 and Dserv access in Win Firewall, if that's what you meant. According to cysm.org the ports are open. Only thing is it's displaying a different IP address to the machine I'm running it on - is this expected, or should I change my settings to reflect the IP address cysm has picked up ? I'm pretty busy today but I'll leave it running for a bit... Cheers.

I can't immediately see the relevance of that site, but it would read your external ip, not the local one to which the server should be configured. I can't see any server that looks like it could be yours. Are you sure it's set to be accessible from the Internet?
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 2, 2019 Author Posted November 2, 2019 (edited) Yes it was set to accessible, but it was probably down when you looked, was out most of yesterday. I've seen it on the server list a couple of times after logging out - presumably an update lag. I forgot to say it's 'zoo wings' at the bottom of the list, but I'm sure I dont' have to. I've a new hub to set up later so I'll have to configure that. My BT sub went from 32.99 to 44.49 for an up 50mb connection. (end of special offer). They have however given me a 150mb deal for 34.99. My suspicions and fears confirmed when on opening up the box, staring you in the face, on the inside of the lid reads "Our smartest hub ever". Anyway, I'll try it again later or tomorrow, maybe post times on the forum in advance asking if anyone would try and access the bloody thing. Thanks for the help Cynic.. Not connectable at this time. If you're using the setup you described originally, it seems you may have an upstream modem in which case it may need forwarding to the router. If you switch to your new router, I suggest you connect it directly to the phone line, that way there's only one device to configure.
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 The new hub's set up, and port forwarding configured as before. In addition I've set ipv6 'pinholes' with the same rules.. although I've no idea if I should have. For some reason cysm isn't seeing 28100 anymore, was ok last night. If I understand you correctly, I can't plug into the new hub directly because the line's hard wired into the modem. I expect configuring between the modem and hub will be beyond me.. so may have to give up. To confirm, Win firewall has home and public exceptions set for IL2 / Dserver / Zoo Wings Server, so that shouldn't be causing any problems. I take it running the game on it's own Drive isn't affecting anything ? Anyway, if you can think of anything worth trying... otherwise I'll have to admit defeat for now. S!

If you were able to make one port visible, it suggests there's no need to configure the modem. Could you post screenshots of your router config screen(s)?
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 Some screens above ! I just noticed that there's 2 IP's at play here :- #1 under TCP/IP Info called 'Broadband IP Address'. #2 under IPv4 Configuration called 'Hub Gateway IP Address'. I have the ability to change #2... I don't suppose entering the IP from #1 into #2 would fix it ? #1 is what cysm is picking up incidentaly. And should I just delete the IPv6 rules I set ? Thanks for the ongoing assistance, S!

Thanks for the ongoing assistance, S! The broadband ip is your external address, the ipv4 ip is a local address and should be the one you use to log into the router. Neither need to be touched. I still don't understand http://cysm.org/ if that's what you meant, I can't see its relevance. Use canyouseeme.org. The 28100 should be set to TCP not UDP. As far as I can tell rest seems OK. Earlier you said: " win firewall is set to allow incoming TCP 280000". Is that a typo?
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 cysm - got it 2nd time, brilliant. Yes the extra 0 was a typo. Will make the correction and try again. Cheers !
Zooropa_Fly Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 Ok it seems to be working now, can't believe it. Confirmed by 1st visitor Amin Aspin, my new besty. Thanks again Jim and Sitting Duck. And obviously thanks Cynic, help very much appreciated. If you ever need a plane or a campaign or something it's yours, just ask. Salute ! 1
BMA_West Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) It definitely is and it rocks LOL Daedalus can also confirm from watching him yestereday ))) Congrats ZF! Sorted out my game running problem to - remember Max; Edited November 8, 2019 by West
