***If you previously downloaded these skins, I have reworked the alpha channel. The old skins are still accessible, and the newest versions are in the 2.0 links. Its the curse of a skinner to improve and retouch old skins, its not my fault, I swear.***

I've made a Clostermann pack, to include the Tempests he flew operationally, and that were assigned to him.

The first one is US-W, that he flew with 56 Sqn from 31 March 1945 to 5 April 1945.

BG9mvRw.jpg

JF-E, NV994 that he flew with 3 Sqn, before he applied personal markings to it, April 1945.

Hjlby2s.jpg

JF-E, NV994, during June 1945, the infamous "Le Grand Charles"

omloNZq.jpg

JF-E, NV724, August 1945. The Croix de Lorraine was added to the radiator cowling.

Download the Clostermann pack HERE.

========================

On a semi related note, in doing the Clostermann skins I reworked my alpha channel and have redone all the skins in this thread. They will be re-uploaded when I get a bit of time.

Great stuff Megalax!

Just flew the Tempest for the first time online yesterday and it pretty much blew me away.

Time to DL'ing for some stylish attire :)

501 Sqn Tempests. Download HERE. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get them all in a tight formation so I had to screenshot them separately. Hopefully one or many of you folks can fly them together online and recreate that famous shot above.

Some may have also noticed, I've been playing around with the normalmap to get more of a stressed skin look, and the stressed fabric on the rudder.

Download my normalmap HERE.

Copy to "(...)\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\graphics\Planes\TempestMkVs2\Textures" folder. Backup your old file.

You can fly in formation and chose the skin of each warbird using career mod as a wing commander.

Great work Megalax, would it be possible for you to create a skinpack for the 3rd squadron, just adding the letters JF-A,B,C,D,E,F on top of NV-994 without personal markings?

There seems to be a demand for these, so I've started making complete squadron packs for mission makers and campaign players. Complete packs of aircraft without serial numbers, individually marked from A-Z.

Hello

Ive been making a video series with IL-2 on Clostermann's book, and Im so confused which paint schemes he had just in the time period just before your skins were used. In chapter 'A day like the others', he already seems to have been with 56 SQN in late February 1945. In chapter 'Rat catching', he also states in late February 1945 he was flying with 3 SQN and plane JF-E, but then in chapter 'The Rhine', he states on 24th March, 'stick JJ-B on the board', squadron markings from 274 SQN. He then states on 30th March he was OC of 'A' Flight 3 SQN.

The only thing I can think of is that he used different aircraft from different squadrons as needed due to shortages of pilots?

Can you help? Im going crazy!

Hello,

The book of "Le Grand Cirque" is a novel on a historical basis, with many errors, especially in the period on Tempest.

To have a good representation of the operational life of Closterman and the airplanes used, it is necessary to obtain the 2 books in French below.

https://www.amazon.fr/Pierre-CLOSTERMANN-Journal-opérationnelle-Janvier/dp/1656024578

As it was the rule in the RAF and especially with the lack of aircraft, the pilots did not have assigned aircraft. They had planes according to the availability for maintenance. Except the squadron and Wing  leaderswo had a personal plane.

Thanks a lot for the link. Can you give a short comment about the book by Coisine? Is it not redundant to the article in AVIONS?

Awesome, thank you! Was looking for a skin with invasion stripes. Great work!

The book "Journal de sa vie operationnel" is very different from the magazine "Avions"

He does not have a photo but it is an analysis day by day, mission by mission with comparison with the book "Le grand Cirque" and the flight logs of the squadrons. Then with a day by day analysis of the author.
Each mission is given with the registration of the aircraft used and any victories.

And that for 9 bucks? The best books are indeed written by people who are nuts... ?

It looks more like a hardcover student thesis than a real book. The quality of the paper is basic because it is an author's book but it is 235 pages

Not sure how that would look on our Tempest's 'chin'... but it sure looks great in that colour picture in the link.

This skin I use all the time. I really enjoy it. I've used it all of the Tempest scripted campaign as my skin of choice.
