AngryBeaver Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 I've been flying the P-51 for about a week now and just wondered if there was a way or could the devs increase the volume of the AoA whistle a bit more? There needs to be a little more notice of a departure and in the real aircraft there is a buffet before departure. It's probably me but when she goes she really goes and when in combat its nice for a little more warning. I'm not that skilled yet at IL2 aircraft so I'm asking from a new players point of view. That whistle on the P-51 is awesome anyway and I'm pretty sure more seasoned vets won't mind. 1
spitfirejoe Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 a bit louder whistle would be nice.....agreed.
[DBS]Browning Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I think it's a bit too loud right now, but too quiet in externals. 5
Voidhunger Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Its very loud as it is, and its very annoying. I hear it all the time when I fighting the mustang.

AngryBeaver Posted October 16, 2019 Author Posted October 16, 2019 No, I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say....... From the pilot interviews I've see, they have said there was a signal from the "whistle" that the aircraft was ready to depart or "spin" etc. Even upon landing the pilots said the "whistle" would increase much more. As it is now, there isn't much warning that you get before the P-51 stalls, that came in the form of a buffet and an increase in the tone and volume of the whistling sound. This is historically correct. From the outside you can hear it ok, but in the cockpit is were it really helps. I'm surprised that there is no buffet or pre stall warning modeled that the actual aircraft had. Most aircraft and most sims have a slight shake or buffet before departing into a stall of spin, with IL2 it seems to come without much warning and I personally find it difficult to fly at the edge of the aircraft's envelope.
[DBS]Browning Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 You do get the whistle just before a stall, providing your speed is within a certain band.
Jade_Monkey Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Is it expected to have the whistle on takeoff? I assumed you need more speed for the whistle to be noticeable.
Gambit21 Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 That inboard gun port is huge, it would probably whistle at 60 mph at the right angle.
Dirt_Merchant Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I personally think the whistle is fine - would be cool to be able to maybe set it higher as an option for the hearing impaired though. Also @HarleyDavidson if you're constantly flying at the edge of the envelope you might wanna rethink your tactics just a bit. It may be totally necessary for you to wring every bit out of the plane depending on what you're doing, but usually its best to keep the speed high and the Gs low if you're looking to survive!
