I can definitely understand, why DCS fans might be worried that Heatblur's attention could be drifting to MSFS and away from finalizing DCS Tomcat. Or Phantom or Eurofighter.

It is an amusing thing to think that people are worried about a development team expanding their work into other titles. But then, flight simmers have always tended to make high drama out of anything, be it big or small. ?

Looking forward to a well modelled Phantom in MSFS?

I would spend an exorbitant amount of money on a study level C-130 for MSFS.

You're going to love the DCS one. :)

Who knows, maybe ACS will follow and so the MSFS thing too.

Maybe MSFS will actually put the damn targets on the ground at the target areas at NTTR/Nellis.

I’m planning 2 training missions for the F-4 there, and relegated to shipping containers or non-1960’s/70’s vehicles.

Drives me nuts.

I agree with Gambit on this one

What I use Planes for in these two sims, is different. DCS for missions and a purpose.
C 130 will have that in DCS

The C-130 is also a sort of civil-sim bridge for DCS. Point A to point B flying, and maybe for some the purpose is just the flight itself.

It will go well with the global earth tech they’re working on.

Next step in the around the world tour - Monterey, CA to Redding, CA. I wasted about two hours because for some reason my autopilot was going haywire, but finally I figured it out and we were on our way.

Another beautiful day for flying, taking off from Monterey:

En route over the ocean and over San Jose:

Once north of the Bay Area the terrain becomes pretty monotonous before the mountains rise up again north of the airport at Redding:

On the ground at Redding, the weather was just as nice as it was at Monterey:

@LukeFF I am leaving for work 14 days and will be without any form for sim.
I would appreciate very much if you keep reporting with as many screenshots as possible during this time. It helps

From SimWorks Studios recently;

Last but not least, we have been working on the B-52 Stratofortress for some time. The exterior is progressing and plans are to do the three separate packages:
>B-52B through D
>B-52E & F
>B-52G & H, pre and post-EVS
Each package will highlight the differences in cockpit configuration and performance, modelling the different stations and allowing multi-crew capability using YourControls. The thing about the B-52 is that we are taking our time with it because it is a favorite of many team members, and it will take however long it needs to be done right.

It's not that crazy imo! It's just the fact that there are eight engines so a lot of the steam gauges are in sets of eight. They still just require the same quick glances to ensure that the needles are pointing the way you expect, and I'm sure that one of them going awry would stick it out like a sore thumb.

Leaving Redding (KRDD) today for Gooding Municipal (KGNG), in Idaho. The weather was once again beautiful as we prepared to take off:

image.thumb.jpeg.8b91b331b77828684b06b50ab031d432.jpeg

As we headed out, we were afforded a beautiful view of Mount Shasta:

image.thumb.jpeg.e4f692b56de9ccab6223637712aac861.jpeg

As we headed east, the terrain generally flattened out into bleak, empty wilderness. Not the sort of place you want to go down if you have engine problems:

West of Mountain Home Air Force Base:

image.thumb.jpeg.98fc004101b8bbf58b6d7a73dc67d95f.jpeg

As we approached Gooding some of the snow gave way to more green terrain:

image.thumb.jpeg.5cc00a29b2c03dd57b90be14a93d62ad.jpeg

We made it into Gooding without problems. Unfortunately, the terrain generator forgot to populate the airfield with buildings, so it looks like some bleak, abandoned airstrip (save for the vehicles driving around the parking area like mad ? ).

I upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11 today and enabled NVIDIA Reflex in the MSFS Graphics settings. I'm pleased to report that my framerates shot up from around 40-60 FPS to around 90-115 FPS. Nice surprise! It really makes flying helicopters easier.

System: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, NVIDIA GTX 1080 (driver 517.48), 32 GB RAM, running at 1080p.

Next leg in the around the world tour: Gooding Municipal, Idaho (KGNG) to Sheridan County, Wyoming (KSHR).

It started out as a windy but clear day, but the forecast called for snow en route to our destination.

image.thumb.jpeg.a2c2973c47a8dd62257f4354e1cbdd6b.jpeg

Really a nice day leaving KGNG:

image.thumb.jpeg.772efb8fdb77e0070954962401ce1ecc.jpeg

The nice weather and green terrain soon gave way, though, to snow and increasing clouds:

image.thumb.jpeg.8176ca4393f7d91259acd2e6814d37d9.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.9e603fc072ef1b1cfeb467b3cc8322d6.jpeg

The cloud cover became really heavy, but at least it made for some nice screenshots:

image.thumb.jpeg.c5b048bf7f26e32a59c13a49b11c1e9b.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.7dd30eb9a0cf343ef0117b3ee4493a0c.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.f3e11f3840b33ae1b51744da04e51157.jpeg

We had a brief respite from the cloud cover as we neared our destination, but the forecast called for lousy weather over the airport. Just as I was about to call a missed approach because of low visibility (including snow) at barometric minimums, the runway lights shone into view and the snow cleared, and so we made the landing without much issue. But, if I could've done this one again, I'd gone for an ILS approach on a different runway instead of fooling around like I did with the RNAV approach. Lesson learned. ?

The eyecandy looks amazing. Are there any fast military jets available,  in order to "fast forward" the landscape and maybe enjoy terrain following in the mountains?

Unfortunately it looks like this mod is conflicting with something else in my installation. Several times now, the game has crashed when either I was loading a mission with this plane or while I was flying the mission. Such a bummer, because the improvements are really substantial.

So, this one is going to have to be shelved until I can figure out what's going on.

I had a crash of MSFS after flying the new mod and then starting a helicopter session. I restarted the sim and the next flight was OK.

I love the mod though, since I started on C150s in real life and flew C152s later on.

Next leg of the around the world flight: Sheridan County, Wyoming (KSHR) to Oakes Municipal, North Dakota (2D5).

Starting out, the weather was really cold (-19 degrees Celsius) and snow was falling. With the cold temps, it took some time to get the engine started, but we finally were on our way.

250245636_MicrosoftFlightSimulatorScreenshot2023_01.28-22_24_45_79.thumb.jpg.fcb3411bc82b0fb6e086b6ed2089ffc7.jpg

Eventually we were clear of the snow, shortly after departing KSHR. After that, this leg of the tour featured pretty flat, featureless terrain, but at least it made for some good screenshots flying below the clouds at 7500 feet. Like the flight before this one, we were aided by a ~8 knot tailwind:

image.thumb.jpeg.4933f29719c2f7d6832db433e614e681.jpeg

On the ground at 2D5, it was cloudy but clear:

The next leg of the journey will take us up right to the border with Canada, in northeastern Minnesota.

Well, I wasn't planning on flying another leg in my around the world tour, but since my Typhoon career came to untimely end, I decided to pick up the next leg - Oakes Municipal, North Dakota (2D5) to Grand Marais/Cook County Seaplane Base, Minnesota (KCKC) (two airports in one! ?).

We started out just as the sun was coming up, at 0800 hrs local time:

366946423_MicrosoftFlightSimulatorScreenshot2023_01.29-23_02_45_12.thumb.jpg.f80f2d529173208f7560dc0417bf8be2.jpg

Otherwise, we had a 20-knot tailwind behind us again, and as we flew eastward we encountered quite a few of the many lakes Minnesota is known for, ending with Lake Superior:

image.thumb.jpeg.ecc383e4368338ea022d6b8962821e1c.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.9162f2a8534e6130c5216e3e5ed24d5c.jpeg

KCKC is a nice, small little airport, tucked in among the trees with a small parking area:

image.thumb.jpeg.65119b54ded57c0e1c0287aab704a2b7.jpeg

This about concludes our flying across the continental US. Our next stop as we gradually make our way northward will be in Canada.
