I lived there for 6 months in the 80s. As you come in to land you can see on the left my old place. Happiest time of my life.

Recomend is the R.I.P Ansani version and live weather.. Have fun!

Why that version? (I'm not a Bleriot expert). I had a recent practice and got across safely in one of the other versions, but gained too much height in the crossing and got the black screen of death trying to descend over Langdon Bay.

It is the version that comes closest to what Blériot was flying back then. It also adds to the challenge.

Is anyone doing the Channel thing? No promises, but I may be able to give it a go if I can stay awake.

OK, I'll try to join. Calais-Dunkurque LFAC?

I'm not entirely sure I've got the multiplayer setting right - not used them in a long time

Yes LFAC-.. currently waiting for the sun to rise. Multiplayer settings are on the little icon for your x-boxlive thing.. there are what servers you are on

when you press esc in flight, top righthand corner. West Euro servers.

Well, I saw a lot of labels, including MONOSTRIPEDZEBRA. Unfortunately, no Bleriots under them. No aircraft, though I got close enough to one to see a pilot flying happily without one! Either my settings wrong somewhere, or the Bleriot doesn't show up in multiplayer, even if you own it, maybe?

I think I may have had connection issues too, as the distances on labels didn't make much sense, and by the time I got to Dover, they seemed to be more or less stuck in relative position. Made the crossing anyway, though navigation mostly consisted of assuming the guys ahead knew where they were going.

I landed in a field ok, except that it was on a slope, which meant I continued rolling downhill until I hit a conveniently-placed building. Bleriot himself avoided the problem by nosing over, I believe.

MSFS sometimes does not show planes as the ones they are..

I was with you in a Bleriot, but lost you along the way.. currently sitting in a field on the british side..

You did show up as Bleriot, for me, though.. I think. I have Labels off.. but there was one Bleriot with me.. who left me behind.

Yeah, I had your label in sight most of the way - off to my right and behind. I'd have circled to wait, if the label distances had made any sense, but turning towards you seemed not to reduce the distance.

Did you see other players Bleriots?

unfortunately,no.. But I will take off from my field near East Langdon and fly north and up the tames esturay to london city

I'll restart at EGDH, and head the same way. By the time I get to London (if I get that far without falling asleep in the air) there should be stock MSFS aircraft about, and I'll find out if I can see them. Don't wait about for me though.

It's a nice day for flying, apart from the low mist - I expect that will clear.

I'll do that if I can figure out how, though I'll have to find somewhere else to take off - ran and low vis here.

Turned off live weather - its hopeless. Your label seems to be over Manston

Yeah, just landed by you, sitting in a stealth Bleriot. I'll try going back to live weather.

Low vis and rain again. Will go back to 'few clouds'.

Falling asleep, will land at Eastchurch

Screenshots from video from my end. No Bleriot, just a pilot. Not exactly easy to fly in formation with. We clearly weren't seeing the same live weather, which is why I turned it off.

I forgot all about this...and I stayed up most of the night to watch Olympic skateboarding.

Not sure what’s more bonkers;

skateboarding or Blerioting...?

Posted

Blerioting should probably be an Olympic sport. Run it like the fancy horse-riding: 'dressage' where you have to make your mount perform elegant manoeuvres, 'cross country' where you have to fly a twisty course as fast as you can, and 'show jumping' where you have to take off and land over a series of closely-spaced obstacles without hitting them. The horse-dudes all dress up in fancy clothes, so Blerioteers should probably do the same:  full period flying costume, with compulsory Louis Bleriot moustaches for the men, and Harriet Quimby lace-up boots and hoodie for the Women.

This could work for the skateboarding too?

The latest MSFS update is out. Lots of new stuff, including floats for the stock Cessna C172 classic, Cessna C172 G1000, CubCrafters XCub and Zlin Aviation Shock Ultra.

Now released for XBox consoles too, which is no doubt going to lead to more griping from the 'I'm special' crowd...

Lol.. I never had that happen before.. Sometimes I saw the generic orange low-wing-nosegear sportsplane instead of othher addon planes that i do have myself, but this a first for me..

Maybe we should do that again, or something similar with  Bleriots.. it seems that MSFS is only sometimes odd, it should work most of the times, I think

Lets see how that update works

Maybe there's a setting I'd missed somewhere? I've generally had other aircraft turned off entirely, so wouldn't have noticed the problem before. I checked later at a busier airport (Copenhagen) and could definitely see players' tubeliners operating. Don't know whether they could see me, or what they saw me as if they did. If I appeared as a Cessna or something, I must have looked really weird, what with the erratic taxiing, and having to turn the engine off to stop. Probably better if they didn't see me...

If we are going to fly Bleriots together again, we should sort out some means of communication beforehand. Maybe cross the Alps together or something?

I was hoping for this to appear in Xplane 11, but it seems like JustFlight doglegged and went straight for MSFS.

Pretty excited.

I was always hoping for a decent DC-9. I was still a kid when I could fly a good hour in Swissairs a full motion sim. That was about 35 years ago. I‘m taller now.

But that Fokker will do.

Yeah, standby for hot fixes galore.

All par for the course I think. They’ll get there eventually.

The biggest problem with the DC6 at the moment is the “stewardess sitting on my lap” mod has been broken by this update?

Speaking of, can you start that one in El Alto airport, La Paz? I could land there, but most of the times when I start it up, engines cut out a couple of seconds after start.

Naa, I think that is just MSFS.. it acts weird sometimes. Maybe on discord or steam.. I would love some Bleriot-Tour of Paris

I am currently having a bit of fun doing the landing challenges deadstick.. Out Skerries is really a challenge that way.

Been messing around with this:

Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Screenshot-20

Even in very blustery live weather, I managed to land it on the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens, and take off again with no difficulty at all, and I think with better conditions it will cope with something much smaller. Is there an Olympic-sized swimming pool anywhere?

Probably wasn't the best day to be messing around over London with multiplayer traffic on (I forgot to turn it off). The XBox crowd were out in force enjoying their new sim, doing barrel rolls in A320s on the approach to Heathrow, and flying low over the Thames.

There goes my weekend.  Managed to run the update quite quickly and smoothly.  40gb over about 4.5 hours. Had a quick hop over central Japan to see how it performed and things are much improved after the update.  Bumped my clouds and landscape textures up to Ultra with no significant loss in frames.

Great stuff.  Had a quick go last night in VR.  Was a lot better than before but reckon I'll stick to Trackir for now.
