onlyforbrian Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Hi, I have some quirks running my IL2 in VR and I'm wondering if anyone had these or knows how to fix it. I'm using a Samsung Odyssey. First of all, I have a Steam account on my computer with several steam games. But I bought my BoS directly through ICgames so I don't know why Steam is even involved. SO... I start up my BoS, then I stick on my Odyssey head set, which starts up the Odessey VR. Then I click the BoS "play" button, which loads IL2 into the Odyssey screen. For some reason this also starts up my Steam VR. Now if the game loads properly, and I see the IL2 login sceen in my Odyssey screen, if I move my head forward and back, the IL2 login screen in the Odyssey moves closer if I move my head towards it, which tells me it loaded properly. But often I can't get it closer..if I move my head towards it, it moves away, so I know it didn't load properly, and I have no idea why it does that. If you try to fly with this improper loading, you'll get the same issue in the plane, you can't move your face closer to the gunsight. I'm not sure if SteamVR is causing the conflict or what's going on. Usually I have to shut everything down and reboot my computer, a real pain. Then today I had a new issue. While I was in the hangar, I had sound. but when I got into a quick mission, the planes had no sound but as soon as I got back in the hangar I had sound again. WTH? I have a non-Steam version, I wish there was a way we could scan our games for corruption. Hopefully the upcoming update will fix it.
spitfirejoe Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 I use Windows Mixed Reality aswell ( had the Odyssey plus and now the HP Reverb ). I have None of the issues you have. It is normal that SteamVR starts by itself, because it is needed to run IL-2 in VR mode, even without the Steam Version of the game. Make sure you have the latest versions of Windows Mixed Reality and SteamVR Software and Always start Windows Mixed Reality with your HMD BEFORE starting IL-2.
Hartigan Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Hi, i use Reverb at the moment. WMR seems to have some issues. What i have noticed i have to set room boundaries almost every time before i start a game. Otherwise 6dof is not working. WMR assume i use seated position instead of room boundaries.
Gretsch_Man Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 You may try a little program called OpenComposite, which bypasses Steam VR (works even for games installed within Steam). I don't whether this will help you. I'm using it with my Oculus Rift having no problems at all.
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 @onlyforbrian There is no need to start Steam Home to enjoy IL2 in VR. SteamVR will start automatically when you launch IL2. Before putting on your headset start WMR and move the HMD up, down, left and right to have it get its bearings -the lenses will light up. Next hold the HMD up in front of your face and launch IL2. As the game loads put the HMD on and you should be ready to play. The Odyssey and Reverb have a sensor in the headset that detects if you are wearing it. When you are wearing the headset without launching a game it assumes you are wanting to explore the cliff house for content.

For Odyssey you need WMR and to run BoS you also need Steam VR running. Gordon's advice above should sort the OP's problems. Edited September 24, 2019 by DD_Arthur
Hoots Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Another vote for OpenComposite, works a treat and has improved frame rates considerably.
onlyforbrian Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 I just tried openComposite.. maybe I have some corruption, who knows..but my IL2 wouldn't even run with it. But thanks for everyone's input. I'm wondering... I have a GTX 1060 video card, I7-3770, I wonder if that's my instability problem but in-game I'm getting 35-40 fps, runs smooth when the game loads properly, which is about half the time.
onlyforbrian Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 I think I fixed part of my problem guys. My Samsung Odyssey has 2 options, sitting in the chair looking straight ahead, or tracing out a room boundary. Since I was sitting in a chair, I chose that option, but I finally figured out, that with the chair option, if I tried to look behind me to see if someone was on my tail, I lost my tracking and everything went out of whack. So I finally set up room boundaries, and now I can look behind me without issues. Thanks everyone for all your input. 1
