whitav8 Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 I've had it flicker before a few times as IL-2 Quick Mission selection before final acceptance but it is constantly doing it today and it is at maybe 60Hz and requires me to shut my eyes until the mission has loaded - then all is fine. I tried various SteamVR settings but no change. I haven't found any other VR app to be causing the same flicker. As of Sep 21, I am running beta version 1.8.5 with WMR Portal and Odyssey+ (Win 10 build 1903 - all recent updates - RTX2070 nv436.15 )
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 @whitav8 Did you find a solution to your problem? I've begun experiencing the same screen flashing recently. The scene remains in the hangar instead of going to the dome and I have a purple Please Wait overlay appear. I am not on SteamVR Beta nor do I have anything in Steam Library which I understand has many problems with their recent update.
sysprog Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 I have the exact same problem, this only started with the new updates. I have also had to 'tweak' with all the settings again to get a good balance. so something has drastically changed how VR/STEAM/IL2 work together 1
-332FG-Gordon200 Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 I noticed tonight that if I lean forward while the screen is flashing I can see beyond that layer and the dome as it should be. The QM map where you select type of mission does not fade to the SteamVR dome and begins flashing until loaded. Previously I saw the dark panel with loading bars while mission loaded. Now beyond the flashing layer the dark panel is overlaid with a smaller purple panel that reads "IL2".
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 The problem is that several games which have been ported to VR have no dedicated loading room for VR. A black room that would have the frontally facing wall alternating between IL-2's beautiful loading screens would be enough. However, I believe the issue is a bit deeper, the engine hangs (intentionally because of ressources or not intentionally we can only speculate). So even a loading chamber would not immediately solve the issue - probably. There's a bit more work involved in that. I still believe it is necessary though. The current situation is only solved by ripping off the VR headset while loading anything in IL-2. You couldn't demo IL-2 like this, so I hope it'll get fixed. P.S. Valve has "screwed" over quite a few partners in the industry. But hey, even though I am using the Valve Controllers, I am biased against them right now because I'm still waiting for Half Life 3. 1
Marvel Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Me too have the same issue as you described after the last Steam update. Really very annoying ?. I hope Steam can solve the issue. M
whitav8 Posted November 16, 2019 Author Posted November 16, 2019 Dcs is also doing it (flicker at 30Hz during loading ) as well but most other games (FS2, Xplane11, and P3D) aren't. I am running WMR Portal with Reverb, build 1903 WIn10, SteamVR beta 1.9.3
blitze Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Seems to be disk access / loading overhead whereby VR display is frozen when maps and in game assets load up for a mission. Seen also in DCS and probably related to DirectX-11 based titles whereby most of the work is multicore limited. It isn't as bad (flickering) as it has been and there is a load box image that pops up that is quite stable and I just focus on that now. Things will improve over time - I hope. As for Valve - yes they have been a bit dodgy recently with working with their so called partners. Not good if they want to be the head of an open VR community. HL3 - look at Valve Bone Works..... They're cooking something up with that. ?
