Random placing of entities and objects / triggering attacks from far away

Hello,

is it possible in editor to somewhat randomize the placement of ground objects?

So I have 2 questions:

1.)

I like to fly recon and spotting missions in the Po-2 but as mission maker I always know where to look so that makes it a bit boring. I would like to have an area to actually search and in case of naval reconnaissance to have the possibility of not finding anything in the searching wedge. I don't really mean having two 50% waypoints of which one would activate so I again know where to look for but rather to have waypoints with a greater area  of where the objects will stop or pass (counts only for moving objects like cars, ships and tanks of course).

2.)

As in the latter case I want to do something I weren't able to until now.

I want to go out look for ships and once found (say flying in a 1000m sphere around them) trigger a waiting group of attack planes to take off and go for a hunt. My question:

If I set the attack command to the ship as a target and the planes take off from say 20 miles away, does the program track the course of the ship for the attacking planes automatically? Or do they have to be in visual range for the AI to "find" their assigned target?

The following topics in the editor manual may help you:

  • Detect Objects In Relation to a Defined Area (pg. 81)
  • Randomly Choose an Event to Trigger (pg. 103)
  • Create or Delete an Object While a Mission is Running (pg. 107)
  • Deactivate or Activate an Object While a Mission is Running (pg. 114)

To answer your question, as far as I know, the AI will track the target from any distance. However, I have not tested this behaviour at long distances.

For blocks, unfortunately there is no way to randomize them, they are either there or not. For vehicles and guns you could create several at different locations and only activate one of the locations, based on a random switch.

For what it’s worth, as a mission designer I regularly forget where I placed something. Several Combat Box maps have “free hunt” zones with about 25 tanks spread across 6 locations (per zone) and I can’t remember where stuff is, so I have to ‘hunt’ like any other pilot. If you can give your mission at least 6 distinct places where the recon could be, that might be enough for you to forget where you put things also.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try that.

For block i use that trick which is not the best.

I randomize factories on the map. As block can't be enable, spawn, delete. i use a command damage, and destroy the factories i don't want.
