FurphyForum Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Yep, thanks for the journey with this mod. It was good to see that the Devs recognised your work and talent and you were rewarded for it, by it being officially implemented into GB 1 5

So does this new in game cloud tech mean that you will not be able to tinker with the new clouds further if you were so inclined to? Just curious, and also rowdybOOt, did you have a hand in the new cloud tech development? And lastly, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the cloud mods that you have provided for the community over these past few years, Your diligence of continually trying to improve these mods to the best that you could possibly develop always upped the ante for TGBS. Your cloud mods have been my number one install after each and every update to TGBS. Do you have any graphics settings favorite for this new tech? Ultra? S!Blade<>< 1 2
Stonehouse Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Just an fyi for those who might have tweaked things. Looking at the new gpreset.cfg cloud samples are 64 across all graphic presets.

Are you going to mod these new clouds also or are you part of the team now, only working with the "official" clouds? 1 hour ago, BladeMeister said: So does this new in game cloud tech mean that you will not be able to tinker with the new clouds further if you were so inclined to? itsbillyfrazier Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Thanks a lot Rowdy, I've really enjoyed the journey with this mod and certainly appreciate all the time and effort you put in to improve it with each version. I hope you will continue modding the sim in some form or other, I'll be sure to follow any further projects you decide to do. 1 1
MajorMagee Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 I'm seeing a lot of obvious color banding in some of the new 4.701 clouds, but then again I'm only seeing them from below in Tank Crew...

Your mod looked better, some of the new clouds look pretty bad from above, like an ice cream melting without the cone and round edges, pretty unrealistic.

The only thing I found that was effective in reducing this was using Reshade's Deband shader.

I found I liked the new clouds better on high than extreme. Also with Rowdy's mod I found that effect would happen when I set the cloud samples too high in gpreset.cfg in case you had a tweaked version of that file still in play.
Denum Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Hey Rowdy, Since you're pretty intimate with the clouds, Is there a way for people to revert to the old clouds? I know there's only a handful of them, but with the GPU shortages it might be almost necessary for them to keep playing.

I’ve tried but no dice. I’m really surprised that some folks are having trouble. I’ve had a huge fps increase. I read your reply in the other post. Maybe I’ll chime in. Wonder why SLI causes issues with the clouds? Edited December 12, 2021 by rowdyb00t 1 2
rowdyb00t Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Brought back some of the sky and light from the old mod. More to come later! 1
Mysticpuma Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 Would it be worthwhile creating a new thread? I look forward to seeing your work on improving the lighting. 1
Beebop Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 I thought the skydome was too light blue on the summer maps for my taste so I went inside the folder to data > graphics > sky and minused (-) the 'summer' folder. Now I get a richer blue sky on summer maps and the pale blue sky w/white snow on winter maps. ? ? (let's see, you make such an improvement to the original game that the Dev's incorporate it, then you improve on that! ?) 1st screenie Stock Summer Velikiye Luki map. 2nd screenie Sky Mod Winter Velikiye Luki map.
Wilhelm_Heidkamp Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 Any possibility of getting the presets.cfg file from the latest patched game with the new developers clouds? I would like to try something...

Wilhelm_Heidkamp Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 With old clouds, they were using 64 on preset. Your cloudmod with modified gpresets was using 128. In new patch with new clouds, developers are using 128 or 64??? Thanks.
Stonehouse Posted December 27, 2021 Posted December 27, 2021 (edited) 64 edit - added stock file. Note that the .txt is just so I could attach it to the forum post. You'd need to remove this and make it gpresets.cfg to make it usable in game. gpresets.cfg.txt Edited December 28, 2021 by Stonehouse 1

It'll take some serious knowledge and effort to get right. On the other hand, it is surprising because Horizon is nothing to do with flight simulation... so why bother having uber-realistic clouds in the first place? Sounds like a total waste of time, money and effort that could have been spent on improving more critical systems required by an RPG. To me it's another example of the all-flash-and-no-substance approach so common in game development these days.

-332FG-Cue-Ball Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Now that new clouds have been in the game for quite a while now, it's time to un-pin this topic?

You could say the same for at least three of the stickies here, but perhaps they've been left up for posterity? The authors did contribute massively to the sim, after all, and some of them are now actively working for the devs. I don't see the problem with preserving the history by keeping the stickies, personally. 1 1

Once again, this Mod was made part of the base game, so there is no independent Cloud mod available anymore...
Nars Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 I remember using a "Grey Sky" version of this. I don't think those changes made it to the official game, as the effect was quite dramatic and maybe unrealistic. Would it be possible to have the option to get that MOD back up for download? Some screenshots and videos can be found around page 10. Thanks! @rowdyb00t

My computer has been put up for some time because I built a house and I’ve been working out of town literally two years straight. I’ll be back soon. I have some pics of some grey sky examples and other things the cloud engine is capable of. 2 1
rowdyb00t Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 I couldn’t find any pics where I changed the sky with the new tech, they might be on my pc. These are some examples from working on it from way back. I haven’t been on for a couple years so maybe some things have changed in the sky files. 5 3
