When the download knocked the launchers out a pilot suggested to load the Great Battles in the shortcut. I did not have it so I downloaded it

from IL-2 web. It loaded and installed okay but when I clicked on the icon a box said       failed to load backend library        .I don't know how to fix that.

I would  appreciate some ideas. Thanks.

I think the easiest way is to download the installer from their web page. This will fetch all the necessary files from their main server and you will be able

to update your game with the more recent launcher. The installer can be found here:

I gave this advice to another chap this afternoon and he apparently could fix these update issues. Hope, this will work as well for you.

Thanks  Therion  for the download but I have a problem  with the .net 4o files also. the download won't finish be cause of

new or same  .net 40 files. I have had those .net 40 files for years.

So I'll start working on that problem.

Thanks again for the help.

Hi mate, I have the same issue. A couple of days ago I tried to play the game but a message said: "#10005 please update your game: new version available"

I tried several time to update the game but almost at the end of the process a new message shows: "update failed"

So I tried to update the launcher as per in the link in reply by Therion. Unfortunately now I think to definitely messed up the launcher and the message is: " failed to load backend library "

How could I solve this issue? Maybe could be a good idea to unistall the launcher and re-install it again?

Thanks for all your help! Ciao!

Now I find that windows did a download on the same day of IL-2 download. They put in new .net 48 files with the old

.net 40 so I am stuck with them. That is why the IL-2 download will not finish. I deleted the .net 48 files but that would not help.

If I delete all .net 40 files I don'tknow if my  computer will still run.

I am experiencing similar problem. Launcher started downloading files whereupon Kaspersky warned of "adware" and presented "delete" option which I chose. Launcher then disappeared though I was able to do a game re-setup. Now, when trying to start game I get error #10027, "packed data verification failed". Never had any warnings from Kaspersky re game updates before. Same issue here with "failure to load backend library" when trying to start launcher. Hope these issues will get some attention soon.

What is this "adware" Kaspersky is identifying? I have never seen this warning before.1862497946_kasp0Cpy.jpg.c3f6eab2de45e3468b2f0e7537ef3d39.jpg

I have all IL2 except Normandy.. Today I bought Flying Circus, on the IL2 homepage, I can click on my "purchases" and see Flying Circus with the serial number, I click on it, then click download, and it downloads the game launcher,  I get the message "checking files" then the Play button pops up, it doesn't update or download Flying Circus, What the heck?? So if I click on Play, I only see Great Battles planes and maps etc. Nothing of Flying Circus.

@onlyforbrian Your sig shows you have Flying Circus and you should have access to the Arras map as well as WWI planes. I don't think Flying Circus vol 1 final product has been released yet.

There's no need for you to download anything after the initial install of the game. Your purchases should register once you go on line and connect with the server (press Enter).

That's what I thought. As soon as I start the game, I thought it should start updating, installing the Arras map and WW1 planes... but no, it just immediately goes to play and all I see is the WW2 stuff. Flying Circus has been out for awhile, that's why I'm confused as to what's going on, I sent a msg to tech support but haven't heard back yet, but thanks for your input.

If your game is up to date, it won't have to install anything. All content (including FC aircraft and maps) is already there. Purchasing content just unlocks it.

You should be able to access the Arras map in quick missions (menu at top right), and the FC aircraft in QM too. Note that you have to select from 'Entente' or 'Central Powers' for the WWI aircraft:
