InProgress Posted June 30, 2019 Posted June 30, 2019 People who played darkest hour should remember this project. I was really looking forward to it. Since destruction of Darkest Hour by current dev team and RO2 being a bit too action based, it was the only slow paced war game out there. Now there is nothing to look for Their forum was cleared with few pinned posts left, including this: It is with the heaviest hearts and the deepest regret that we must announce to you all that production on Festung Europa has officially ended and that Jackboot Games will be shuttering its doors on 30 June, 2019. It has been a long and arduous journey, fraught as most are with both moments of triumph and despair. However, like all journeys, this one must come to its end. Certainly not the way that we had hoped, but now is the time to bring our story to a quiet conclusion. We would like to thank all of you in the community for your support over the years - for following us here, on the forums, and elsewhere. Every "thumbs up" and every "keep up the great work" meant the world to us. Most of all, to the countless fans who for who took the time and effort to share their thoughts, ideas - and quite honestly their dreams - about how to create the most intense and realistic WW2 online shooter yet created. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to every one of the talented individuals who joined the team throughout its existence and who contributed to the project - big and small. Thank you for sharing your gifted selves with us and the community, and we know that many of you are on your way to doing great things in this industry that we love. We'll be seeing a lot more of your work in the future; one way or another. Finally, and it goes without saying, that our highest praise must be reserved for those stout hearts of JBG who stuck in there until the very, bitter end. Guys, we did our best. No one, but us, will know how close we were and how good it could have been. With respect and our everlasting gratitude, The Jackboot Games crew See you on the battlefield! Such a shame, I wish someone one day will create worthly successor of classic Red Orchestra 1. 1

I can understand it would be a massive and expensive undertaking but Its such a shame that a development team hasn't taken the the game data from RO1 and updated the textures and graphics. RO2 pales into insignificance in comparison IMO. Saying that, I would love to have seen Medal of Honour Allied Assault given a makeover, I thought it was a fantastic WWII title.
InProgress Posted June 30, 2019 Author Posted June 30, 2019 (edited) @6./ZG26_Custard I miss ro1 so much, all this little details... being able to fix bayonet, big maps. I think these little things made this game great, slower run spead and limited sprint were really important. RO2 removed it and it turned into gun and run style of combat. And color style was just perfect dark and depressing, perfect for ww2 game. I have no FPS to play Edited June 30, 2019 by InProgress

Hell Let Loose started with a fair bit of promise but it has picked up some Call Of Duty-esque traits alone the way. one example was the Map size has been reduced (for now?) Hopefully when we have more vehicles that will be sorted? It doesn't have the same scope that I think the developers originally intended. I was in from the very early days and Black Matter (devs) seemed to have been thinking of a WWII FPS on a grander scale than what we currently have now. Everything went quiet for what seemed months and then suddenly it was up and running again but with a new partner Team17 and with what seems a bit more "Hell Of Duty" run and gun style. As for Post Scriptum, its good but just seems to be lacking in certain areas, I can't put my finger on it, it just seems a bit Meh. Nothing has come close to RO1 to date (for me) it really was a fantastic game, albeit looking very dated thee days.

Thing is that they decide that RO2 should appeal for CoD crowd too. What probable RO2 achieve in very little degree. Shame that Festung was "killed", but who really need another "Normandy" FPS?

It was really fun on bigger maps and complete crap on maps like apartments. I(mmersive)O(verhaul)M(utator) was best thing that happend to RO2, it made it pretty much RO1. Amazing how simply making soldiers run slower and removing unlimited sprint can change gameplay. Shame that devs abbandoned RO2, they only added mg42, 2 light tanks and 2 halftrucks (+maps but these were just made by community and added as official maps) and then gone. It's weird because RO2 was huge success i guess. I think they missed gold mine, since hardcore ww2 games came back (PS, Hell let loose) then people really wanted more ww2 so even EA and Activision came back there. And tripwire just sits there making more lootboxes for killing floor 2 and selling themselves as epic store exclusive with Chivalry 2 (best choice ever tho, super popular mordhau is out there on steam, and they think chivalry 2 multiplayer game, as epic exclusive for a year is good idea). Festung Europe was suppose to start as normandy (since that's how war started on the west) but they would add more maps later, so you would simply have this kind of road to the end of ww2. From normandy, then stuff like market garden, ardennes etc. Edited July 2, 2019 by InProgress
