I remember that there were plans to introduce the Pacific Theatre to the game, any news regarding that?

At the risk of taking part in a thread that is destined to spiral...

Official word is delayed, not cancelled.

Nobody knows if it will be directly next or not.

There is plenty of discussion about it, but word from devs, no...

in before the lock. ?

The devs see these discussions, but do not comment.

The elephant in the room is whether the current version of the game engine will allow the Pacific theatre with full carrier fidelity (Ai Flak) to be displayed in all its glory.

i hope so... Really wishing to fly Japanese planes and the F6F in il2 one day...

Posted

My understanding - the main reason for the Pacific delay was lack of access to Japanese AC and manuals  for research.  Dunno if that's changed sooo...

Itally can be a test bed for carrier ops.... just sayn....

I really hope it will happen, but we'll have to wait and see. I'm happy as long as it's not another eastern front scenario (exempting finland), but I know a lot of people want that, too.

Pacific would be nice. Even without carriers for the beginning of the pacific theater.

I think there were documents but they had to translate them. This is quite expensieve and time consuming i would say. If you have to translate hundreds if not thousands pages of japanese text.

If someone could just give Jason a flyable Zero or Oscar for reference it would make things easier. Anybody...?

Before this threads gets locked here is all the necessary info about its delay:

When they first said they were doing the Pacific I didn't really want it as I hadn't had my fill of western planes but now we have, bring it on baby. I can't wait to over shoot the deck many times.

Same here.  I really enjoy carrier ops but I don't know why as I suck at it ?        Once, long ago,  a member of 23 squadron in IL2-46 spent a half hour showing me how to land on a carrier perfectly every time whatever the situation. It was just a simple trick that never failed. Even when we progressed up to landing on a tiny escort carrier in gale force winds this trick made it easy.   The problem is that I have no idea now what that trick was ?

Posted

I remember finally just practicing a and figuring out what worked, and what I could easily replicate.

Place the deck at a certain spot on my windscreen at a certain altitude and approach speed  etc.

Rarely did I mess up a landing after that.

I understand why you ask. The issue is clouded and never answered by those who knows.

But analyzing the situation and why it is put a lid on it, it can only mean that it is a small hope. A tiny hope,

because if they knew for sure they could not do it I believe they say so.

There is no doubt they want to do it, but They simply do not know if they can

To do the conflict justice, the Pacific needs more stuff on screen. Dozens of ships including carriers with decks loaded with dozens of planes each, dozens of planes in the air, smoke that doesn't disappear when you look away, flack and tracers filling the sky, burning ships that take hours not seconds to sink . . . . Can BoX engine handle that?

Since the cover of dogfight mode is F4F and carriers, I think 777'd better make PTO as next campaign, or I would accuse them of deceiving my feeling?

Yes, let us dream in peace !! :P

For a great opus pacific, I would dream of:

Management of the aircraft on the flight deck and the lower deck.

A boat / ground / air comuniquation system for radar guidance and flight deck occupancy.

The diversion of the fleet facing the wind during takeoffs and landings.

The possibility of air marshall to choose formations and direction of the fleet.

A DM of the boats, which offers the possibility to the boats to die in different ways.

That the boats can leave a visible wake after their passage, with remnants of oil if they are damaged by the tanks.

Different conditions of sea state depending on the wind, and its influence on the movement of the boats.

A weather that can be local by getting closer to the islands.

A more vertical weather with the development of clouds turning into localized storms.

The use of seaplanes for rescue missions.

The possibility of plugin to use radios with TS (a simple radio revisited for the WW2)

That's it that's all !! Yes I know I dream a lot, but I prefer to remain optimistic.

A place to cry! ?

My few tears: lost hope we'll ever get PTO in this game, either due to game engine, lack of data on Japp planes or being a too big project for this team.

If resources were problem BoBp with it's popular planeset was greates opportunity to go on PTO after.

Two delays are clear indication it won't happen.

However PTO or even Med with carrier ops in VR with il2 simm quality dream still persists, never mind who publish it!

Just so you guys know - I'd found that I'd kindof come around to the PTO (and I'm very much not a fan of it)... so I'll celebrate with you guys if you someday do get it... especially if we get an Aichi E13A (I really want sea-plane carriers for WWI reasons - and I also would rather like to spot for big naval artillery)...

Oh, and the ability to make decisions about the positioning of the fleet between missions (e.g. a separate strategic part of the single-player game)... and player controllable destroyers and submarines of course!
