[DBS]MDS1 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 I hope I have posted this query/question in the right place.... does anyone know what the Mission Editor Support feature is in Flying Circus or Tank Crew ? I notice that none of the other titles in IL-2 Great Battles offer this. I own BOS/BOM/BOK/BOBP and despite many hours of tinkering around in the Mission Editor, the best I can do is "Adapt" other folks missions. I have watched many YT Videos, and downloaded the excellent manuals available.... but this Old Guy just can't get his head around Mission Editor. I am seriously considering getting Flying Circus, although WWI so far hasn't appealed, and IF there is some form of simpler or easier way to build missions with "Mission Editor Support" then it's in the shopping cart I would gratefully appreciate it if anyone could expand on what Mission Editor Support actually is. Thanks, Screenie Attached. Kind Regards, MDS1
JimTM Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) I believe it just means that the planes in Flying Circus and the tanks in Tank Crew are available in the mission editor (and there will be other period-appropriate supporting objects available as the products are developed). They probably mentioned the mission editor support because Flying Circus is replacing Rise of Flight and Tank Crew is a new product line. Mission editor support was already a given in the BoS, BoM, BoK, and BoBP product line. Edited June 18, 2019 by JimTM 1

There isn't a specific map for Flying Circus but one will be upcoming. A special map for Tank Crew is already available. I found going through Pranksters' mission building guide ,step by step, an effective way to learn the basics with the Mission editor. 1
[DBS]MDS1 Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 Thanks JimTM and Thad, I have got Pranksters' Tangmere Pilots guide to Mission building, but I must be reading it wrong. It appears so complicated compared to the Full Mission Builder in IL-2 1946. Maybe that's my mistake.... trying to build missions the way I used to with the FMB. Where I get lost, and frustrated - is that all I wish to do at first, is set waypoints for friendly's and enemy's without all this timer trigger MCU malarky. Just waypoints on the map with planes following them. That's all ? ? ? Thanks anyway fellas, and @JimTM what you say makes a lot of sense. Cheers!
Gambit21 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 MCU’/timers etc are just a fact of life with this editor. It’s easy once you get the hang of it. 1
Jaegermeister Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 The way I interpret those statements is that you will be able to use the Mission Editor in it’s current form in Flying Circus and Tank Crew, with objects for the maps that apply to those particular conflicts. That means we will be able to build missions and scripted campaigns with both of those titles. The MCU malarkey and timer triggers is oddly enough exactly what everyone was yelling for on the IL2 1946 forums back in the day. Now that we have them, I guess we just have to figure it out. No one said it would be easy, and the devs have warned us all along that they aren’t going to hold our hands while we learn it. i can assure you we can do more now with the available tools than we could in FB/1946. I agree it’s more tedious, but I don’t think it is any harder. It’s just different. 2
Gambit21 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Yep, everything that I used to wish that I could accomplish 46 I can now do and then some. 1
[DBS]MDS1 Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 I guess it's up to me then.To be more patient, and forget everything about mission building in FMB 1946 - and start from scratch. Thanks for the valued input guys
Jaegermeister Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 You are correct. It will require patience. The manuals and tutorials are a good place to start but I've found them to not be entirely accurate in some areas. I think the ME logic changes with updates to a certain extent. As an example, they just warned us in the last DD... 20. AI gunners fire only at targets selected as 'Engageable' (Mission Editor parameter) You are not alone though. Consider each mission you build as an IQ test where you have to figure out the logic that the ME wants to accomplish a task. Then try reading through the Mission Builder section and read all the manuals to figure out how to execute that particular part, and if you get stuck, you can usually find the answer by searching through the forum here. Eventually you will be able to make it do what you want. 1
