Help an old BlitzPig start Number 1 on the 262

I can start engine 2 every time.   Engine one shuts off as soon as I release the "Shift 1" fuel button.   Yes I have watched Requiem's video several times.

This is getting maddening to the point of just not flying the 262 again.  There has to be a better way to do this.

make sure u deselect engine 2 before staring 1? i had little trouble initially, 2

I suspect this could be an engine select problem...

Are you starting engine #2 first?

It is a headache at first but not to bad. After pressing E wait until the lower rpm of the gauge (white) reaches between 4 and 6, then hold Rshift+1, then when the rpms reach the upper rpms gauge (red) apply 18% thrust or until the throttle lock engages/clicks, then release Rshift+1. Then to start up engine two just repeat. Just be sure to reset the throttle back to 0 for the next turbine. I also struggled with this for a good minute so no worry.

Oh and if you miss the ignition on the first try then the turbojets seem to struggle starting at all. So you may need to respawn or restart the mission.

I always try to start 1 first.  It never does.  2, piece of cake.

Try (if you haven't already) disabling both engines first, then select engine 1 only. Check on-screen info to make sure that worked. Then 'start' engine etc...

That should do it !

Just make sure you hold the ignition button until after gently throttling up to the 15% click lock thingy.

S!

Here is YAMESS (Yet Another Me262 Engine Startup Sequence). This works for me, with stock key mappings, nothing re-mapped.  Good luck.

With both engines selected (default) set throttle all the way back at 0%
(Turn on technochat and verify throttle % STAYS at ZERO.  If its bouncing from 0 to 1% or more and back, go to your settings, throttle axis settings and increase your low end dead zone).

Press 1 to select Engine 1 only, de-selecting Engine 2, "Engine 1 selected" in technochat
Press E to engage starting process on #1 engine
When #1 tach needle gets to inner circle marker ("Low RPM Gauge" per technochat) of "1" for 1000 RPM (approx 9:00 on the dial) press and hold RGHT SHIFT + NumPad 1
When tach needle gets to inner circle marker of "2" for 2000 RPM (approx 1:00 on the dial) keep holding RGHT SHIFT + NumPad 1 and  slowly increase throttle to 15% (or when detent level on throttle 1 visiually "clicks" (pops out) forward
...engine should start to light up, temp should be coming up to about 600 degrees...
When tach needle gets to inner circle marker of "3" for 3000 RPM (approx 5:00 on the dial) let go of RGHT SHIFT + NumPad 1, engine should be lit and idling with tach needle at about 8:00 position indicating 3,000 RPM per outer markers ("High RPM Gauge" per technochat)

Now press 1 to de-select engine 1, technochat should confirm "No Engines selected",  so any throttle movements won't affect it,

Physically re-set your throttle all the way back to ZERO again (nether throttle should move, #1 is still at 15%, but you want to start from zero for Engine#2 start sequence)

Then press 2 to select engine #2, verify throttle moves only for engine 2

Press E and repeat lighting sequence for engine 2, but using RGHT SHIFT + NumPad 2 for Engine #2 igniter

When engine 2 is idling, press 1 to re-engage engine 1, both engines should be selected,  verify both throttle are moving now.

Go get 'em!

Note: the above procedure works for me with these realism settings: Throttle Auto-limit unchecked, Engine Auto-Control unchecked.

I assume you are using the individual engine ignition key - I only use the common one (think its R shift E ?)- still works even starting engines by individual selection (ie 1,2 and0).

So the only reason I could see engine 1 shutting down when you release the ignition button is that the throttle for that engine has not been moved to 15% (or where the  idle stop engages) so it is not getting fuel now. Are you seeing the rpm reach 2k and then switch the the second scale towards 3k? Whilst holding the engine 1 ignition key, and over 2k rpm, watch the throttle and make sure it moves with your throttle, should also see the fuel cock beside it move forward and that the clip engages before you release the ignition key. If these things dont happen your fuel supply is not being switched to the main tank (which happens automatically with yout throttle movement).

@BlitzPig_EL I think Stickz might be right. You may have accidentally bound the left or right ignitor thinking it was both ? I didn't actually know that there was one for both until I watched some of the vids, I somehow missed it. My solution was to bind the left and right ignitors to the same button.

I do try to select the engines individually because of this before starting.

yeah 3 weeks testing and never noticed 2 other keys for ignitors. Getting really really old.

But if Blitzpig can start number 2 every time, expect his mechanical sequence is ok, it then suggests a keybind issue for engine 1. Wrong ignitor his engine aint gonna fire up after 5 to 9 scecs, so engine revs wont pass 1.2kph (and the sound of engine firing wont occur I assume he would hear this). Either that or throttle aint moving when he expects it is (or not moving far enough) so no fuel (even though rpm reaches 3kph) when ignitors turned off and it just shuts down.

If it shuts down, it will take 2 to 3 minutes before you can actually get it to re start. Think this is because the usual engine start E key is out of sequence with the engine condition.

Hope you get it working, it must be flamin frustrating for you. Far from my favourite plane, I suspect I have flown it for the last time, but I would hate being in your situation.

If the engine is shutting off its because you didnt move the throtle past the cut-off zone (15% on the HUD), if you look closely to the throttle ingame you can see little levers attached to it that change position after you move the throttle past the cut-off zone.

Was testing the hotfix tonight.  Had compressor stalls in both engines.  I had enough altitude to try a restart.  LOL.  Same nonsense.  Number 2 started, number 1 would not light.

I'm done with this thing.

Please exchange this faulty aircraft for a Tempest at your earliest convenience.

The Albatross and the Se5a are very nice however.

Something is obviously wrong with your controller setup, or else we'd hear from a lot of other people with this same issue.

Personally,  I don't even bother deselecting engine 2 when I press E.  It is only when engine 1 is running and the engine 2 starter motor sequence kicks off that I press '2' which automatically deselects engine 1 and then I reduce the throttle to 0 again.

One thing I see which I have not seen anyone else mention is that around the 2000-3000rpm mark I get a message pop up telling me the fuel feed is now on (or words to that effect).  I could be wrong but I don't think that message is tied to the cut-off levers popping up.

I can get them to restart every time. The only problem I have is forgetting to throttle down a bit and then becoming a flame ball.

True.  Just tried tonight, no need for specific engine select.  I posted the "I know what works" step by step approach for BlitzPig_EL's sake.  But it can be much simpler, I also don't switch engine selects for throttle movement between #1 and #2 startup, since the detent/lever/thingy makes sure throttle#1 won't come back to 0% after it's been lit.

Also mapped Igniter1 and Igniter2 to my rich/lean fuel mixture buttons, one-handed startups are easy-peasy.

Blitzpig_EL, if you got compressor stalls in both engines then at least you got #1 running as well as #2?  You can't re-light them until you get down to about 300kph.  Just in case you ever decide to come back to this thing.

That's referring to the fuel cocks right next to the throttle.

This works for Me:

  1. Select Eng Common Ctl OFF

  2. Switch Eng 1 Ctl On

  3. Select Start Eng 1

  4. At 1000RPM Ign  ON

  5. At 2000RPM Crack Throttle 1 (till idle lever clicks open)

  6. At 3000RPM Ign OFF

  7. Sel Eng 1 CTL OFF

  8. Sel Eng 2 CTL On

  9. Sel Start ENG 2

  10. At 1000RPM Ign on ON(

  11. At 2000RPM Crack Throttle 2 (till idle lever clicks open)

  12. At 3000RPM ign OFF

  13. Sel Eng Common Ctl ON

Managed to get it going today.  Mapped the ignition to my trim UP/DOWN rocker on my stick, so no more mucking about with key combos.

Even managed to get both engines re lit after accidentally hitting the autopilot ( A ) key which immediately shut down both engines, while I was 5000 meters over the mountains on the Kuban.  It got a bit dicey as I had to pick a valley and fly down it as I was losing altitude kinda quickly while waiting to be able to re start.  Continued on and had a nice flight...

Headed for Kersch at 8000+ meters.

The first timed I tried the 262, I had same problem with engine 2. I only thought I gave the engine the needed power, but I did not. After a few atemts I just gave the engine a bit more power then I thougth it needed, and problem solved.

You can make ignition off as soon as the red fuel lever has moved forward (would have loved to do this on my own, left foot or so?) and the idle lever has clicked open.
