jozeff Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Hi guys, Learning the yak 1 and I love it. Are there good training missions to start with. I read blazing steppe is quite good but very hard for beginners. Is there a training mission like in dcs? Thanks Jozeff
Gr3y Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 (edited) Not really I am afriad, what is really good is to watch Requiem's youtube series: General info Short Yak 69 video And then do quick practice missions (single plane icon), so you will not be harrased by the enemies or objectives, just try to learn how to taxi/take off/land smoothly/do some maneuvers, then you could go for scripted missions or find some easy scripted campaign on the forum here. =621=Samikatz Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Blazing Steppe can be tricky if you throw yourself into fights, but it does ease you in against easier targets or with a numbers advantage at first. As long as you keep your head on a swivel and don't try to kiss any bomber gunners you should make it home fine
Diggun Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Few years old now, but these along with Requiem's vids should get you pretty comfortable in fighting and operating all the yaks in game... 1 1

Hi, I'd say Blazing Steppe has a medium difficulty level. I never put a goal to create a really tricky and hard campaign as I always try to focus on the most massive part of the players. 2
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I gotta admit though.... I miss the chalkboard training from Rise of Flight.. it it would be a nice touch if there was a basic tutorial for new pilots on flight. and if there was an engine management tutorial as well... Heck! Why not just implement Requiem’s tutorial videos into a training section in the main screen!? instead of having to leave the game and research... 2
69TD_Hajo_Garlic Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Probably not what you want to hear but when I want to get straight combat practice with a fighter I hop on the berloga mp server if its active with players (depends on the time). Quick, fun furballs will quickly get you used to how to maneuver, aim and shoot, fly defensively, ect. in aircraft you want practice with when the ai don't cut it.
Gr3y Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 (edited) @spartan85 Indeed, actually for me it is quite strange that there is no training missions or introduction, as probably most people (especially on Steam when they can get refund within 2 hours) are not that stubborn to dig everything on their own over internet, making the game less appealing for casual players, thus making the player base grow slower. Now THAT could be taken many ways!! As it goes, Blazing Steppe is one of the first things I did when I joined and I found it brilliant, great fun and very immersive. That probably too, but I am not sure if that is good ; ) As we all could benefit from more players, as more money to the devs could result in more content in shorter time, more people online, more fanmade content etc. ; ) 1

I was really expecting for them to carry on the same style as RoF when it came to it..just with an updated approach for ww2 fighter tactics... Any wingman, very familiar with DCS, coming over to IL2 franchise had frustrations with CEM on a piston prop plane... As veteran as he is flying the warthog or f-18... he gets frustrated in tail-draggers... prop pitch, mixtures, just don’t make sense to have them so i kinda have to be a flight instructor for the time being....

Thanks Jozeff The Yak-1 is one of my favourite aircraft of WWII and one of my favourites to fly in IL-2. Read my review of Blazing Steppe to get a better sense of the campaign (https://stormbirds.blog/2017/08/08/blazing-steppe-il-2-campaign-has-the-secret-sauce/) but I'd honestly say that if you love flying this aircraft just spend the $10 and get the campaign. Its the most fun I had with the Yak and you'll absolutely learn to fly and fight in the aircraft. By the time you're done you'll feel pretty confident in it in nearly any situation. 2
