Is it worth it to get already, only playing SP

I have a big interest in the subject matter, and own all the IL-2 releases so far. However on this particular title, would existing owners recommend to get it already? I mainly play SP FYI.

I never thought much of tank simulations to be frank. I'm an avid anti-tanker, spending most of my times in IL-2 cracking the crawling tincans open, and I never saw tanks much differently than the way a hungry hawk sees an unfortunate rodent in the field below him. Having always admired work of 1CGS and wanting to support the series, I've purchased all of their releases including early access to Tank Crew, despite knowing I'll probably never really enjoy it. 

 

However, this mentality of mine has taken a U-turn in past months, precisely due to early access tank crew! What a magnificent simualtion this is becoming. Especially in latest updates, with all the graphic and animation advancements (tanks look stunning!), and particularly with the updated damage modelling - uh, I must admit I'm spending more and more time having fun in tanks (while my IL-2 is looking jealously at me from the hangar :P). Currently you have M4, T-34, KV-1, two versions of PzIII and a Tiger at your disposal to have fun with. Each of them has its own perks, each behaves differently and boy, there is so much more to the tank vs tank combat than just "point and shoot". With careful tactics using terrain, battlefield smoke, obstacles etc. etc. you really can turn the odds around even when it seems impossible. I can only wholeheartedly recommend the title.

They’ve outlined a couple of upcoming campaigns that are coming out soon....

I play multiplayer mostly and we’ve had a lot of fun within our unit hosting some objective based missions, so there’s always the hope that someone like you that plays mainly SP might decide to come join our missions in the future.  In addition some of the guys like Thad are making some great single player missions to enjoy.

 

I think this is only going to get better with time. There are some things that need to be tweaked but slowly but surely I believe these issues will be resolved. In the end it’s your money and time....and you will here pros and cons depending on who you talk to...

 

Hope you take the plunge...and if you want to go out with a large number of tanks in mass....send me a pm in the future and we can make it happen.

A couple of grabs from the mission I just played to work up your apetite :). I've set up an ambush with my PzIII Aufs.M behind a house and waited for Russians to pass. I've managed to knock out three KV-1 behemoths before the fourth one figured out where the fire is coming from and ruined my fun.

 

In an open field on equal grounds, the PzIII with its thin armour and 50mm cannon stands no chances vs KV-1. (Also, on first scrshot you can see one of the additional armor plates on the starboard side of my tank blown off, with a hit received in the hull beneath it.)

am interested in the multi but unfortunately I do not have much time however it is a community that I would like to integrated, if only from time to time. I have a big problem, I do not know how to use the multiplayer and I have no server that display when I go on the multiplayer, whether in dogfight or community ???.
Does any of you have an idea to fix it?

So when you go to multiplayer and open up to Dogfight and Cooperative, you hit Dogfight, Continue, and you don't see any servers listed, correct?  Have you checked your network settings within the game itself?  In addition, can you go to multiplayer servers in other games?  Are you just having issues with TC?

I have validated my IP address in the multiplayer option but I have access to only one server where there is never anyone and because of that I am all alone to play as well in flight simulation mode as

Maybe you have set some filters? if you see one you should be able to see more. Is your firewall blocking the traffic?

No, only a scripted campaign. It is the one item that is holding me back to buy TC.

think that the developers have planned careers, scripted campaigns otherwise the price is not in line with the proposed product. Basically I think it is built as a game in itself. If this is ultimately a simple Add-on, it's expensive kilo

I am another one sitting on the fence about buying Tank Crew now rather than waiting for further development, so was watching this thread with interest. I was hoping that the OP would receive more feedback about how fulfilling the single player experience is at this point in time. Anyone else care to comment?

You don't get early access for a "fulfilling experience".  You get it to play with new toys.  When BoS early access was first released we got the Lagg-3 with no guns, no MP, and a rudimentary FM.  Tank Crew is still early access.  You get to drive around the maps, shoot at other tanks and they shoot at you.  If that's not "fulfilling", then you should wait until it's released.

Just got TC and enjoying the new tank models, but indeed, free dirve around the new map alone and shoot some random generated low detail target isn't the fun case, looking forward to see how the career mode looks like.

f in the end, as I think, T.C. is a game in itself, it will be normal that it is the same characteristics as B.O.S. and in this case there should be one. Otherwise this does not justify the asking price for a simple add-on to B.O.S./B.O.M./B.O.K.

I tried the already included tanks (panzer III and T-34) in BOS and find the indirect turret aiming with the mouse to be quite terrible in fact... It's neither easy nor realistic. A direct input like in Steel Fury (other most other tank games in fact) is much easier and more realistic as well. Also, another annoying thing with this is that I find myself looking into an empty black screen when I want to quickly traverse the turret as the turret is slower than the indirect mouse aiming.

 

Is this something they will change or are there a good workaround for it? I loved Steel Fury so a good tank game/simulator is always on my "to-buy list".

Also, our unit has a mission going up this Saturday at 3PM EST, if anyone wants to join us, just PM me and I can get you squared away on our comms.  Closed server with mission objectives.  Nothing fancy, but we have a lot of fun with it.  Comms and fellow tankers is a hoot and adds so much to the experience.  You can play as Germans or Russians....makes no difference.   We would only ask that if German you follow our lead tank instructions and play like your life depends on it.   

 

I grab a russian tank and kick up some dust against our unit and it would be nice to get some company.....

Thanks to all for the feedback. I'm arriving at the conclusion that Tank Crew won't provide a truly satisfying single player experience until crew ai and platoon ai is implemented. I'll likely wait until that point to purchase.

You could always Join in for a multiplayer session, it's a lot of fun
