Jade_Monkey Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 (edited) Hi, I'm working on some tweaks for the Spitfire Mk IX, still work in progress: Audio: swapped sound samples to add more sputtering to the engine when idle. There are no FMOD changes, just a simple audio sample change to one of the game files using the SoundModder. Will work in other audio samples but for now only one is included. Normalmap: Made some changes to the default normalmap to highlight some features. They are not all historical or realistic but I'm still experimenting. Rugged surfaces in the nose, and some of the metal sheets where the old .303 guns were. I'm still exploring the best way to show imperfections (bending) in the metal sheets. Raised the area over the wheel compartment that the game seems to have ignored. Depressed the metal around some of the electrical sockets, tring give the impression that they are not flush after opening and closing them so many times for maintenance. They are both compatible with ovgme and jsgme. I know the normal map can be used in MP without mods on, I have not tested the sound mod without mods on. Download link (595Mb): http://www.mediafire.com/file/o8b709ju0h8qzls/Spitfire_Sound_and_Normalmap_mod.zip/file The download is this big because it contains all the game sounds, not just the modded ones. FTC_ChilliBalls Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I wouldn´t know whether your sound mod is at all realistic, but it definitely sounds better than Vanilla.
Jade_Monkey Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 I think that sample is from a youtube video from a real Spitfire. You can still hear other in-game sounds, so it's a blend.
Velxra Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Nice work overall. It would be nice to finally have a sound replacement pack for iL-2. Some of the sound mods for iL-1946 were amazing. 1
CosmicXSolitude Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 Can confirm that the sound work with mods turned off. 1

However, re the bulges over the wheel wells, they were originally on the 3d model but removed (along with some other changes) after I posted this liked thread: Cheers, HB 1
Jade_Monkey Posted May 28, 2019 Author Posted May 28, 2019 Thanks HBPencil. I'm assuming that the DCS spitfire is also wrong by having the wheel bay bulges? It's supposed to be an earlier version than the one we have here.
HBPencil Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Cheers. I don't have DCS but had a look at screen shots and indeed it's incorrect, the tear drop shaped bulge over the wheel well on 'c' and 'e' type wings didn't appear until after the war. Just to avoid any possible misunderstanding, they shouldn't be confused with the kidney-dish shaped bulges found on 'a' and 'b' wings (like on the Vb we have in-game) which are correct. 1
Art-J Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 (edited) When ED were developing DCS Spit, they used MH-434 as the main (though not only) reference airframe for building their model, and, as this particular famous plane is a one giant clusterF mash-up of early-late-post-war features combined with numerous somewhat sloppy (or should we say liberal) restorations it went through during its colourful operational life, the DCS Spit inherited some of these features. FTC_Riksen Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 @Jade_Monkey Is there anyway you could update this for the latest version of the game or provide the name of the modified file so I can repack the new sound? Thank you! Cheers

Thank you! Cheers Here are the files I used to replace the originals. You can use the Soundmodder app to swap samples and repackage them. If you want to tune some of them i recommend Audacity (free).
