how to change mission files to sds files

cant host any maps because none of them show up after dropping them into all the possible folders it could read from. my understanding is they need to be in the dogfights folder for non coop?

You're correct about the folder but the mission file and sds file are two different things. The sds file contains the information to configure a DServer, which runs co-op and dogfight multiplayer ("MP") missions.

 

If you are trying to run a DServer, see "Chapter 11: Running Multiplayer Missions" starting on pg. 167 of the IL-2 Sturmovik Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Manual. I wrote the manual before the ability to start a MP server in-game was implemented. Also see "Mission Start Problems" on pg. 183 and "DServer Interface" on pg. 325.
