[DBS]MDS1 Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 My rather amateur attempt at "You-Tubing" and video editing. Please feel free to rip it apart. Kind Regards, MDS1 2 1
Raptorattacker Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 As a start it's good. Just keep doing 'em and your own 'way of doing' will start to shine through. Personall I aint in the business of ripping people apart because no-one can be ripped form trying and I've definitely seen worse. Music's a bit loud in the balance is about all I'd say. Maybe try turning things down as a pose to turning things up? Sounds simple but it's often overlooked as an approach to video editing. Nice one Rap 1

You certainly held my attention. Impressive frame rate. I'm curious to know what resolution you use? Thanks for posting, and keep them coming. 1
[DBS]MDS1 Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 @jaygee485 Thanks for the positive feedback, it means a lot. ? I use a 1920x1080 screen resolution, at 144Hz. My 'in game' frame rates vary from as low as 70 Fps when there are lots of explosions, buildings, static objects etc, to a fairly steady 144 Fps most of the time. I have a very mid-range PC (specs are in signature) but it plays the game on Ultra settings without issue. Kind Regards, MDS1

About your system details though, again, I'm frustrated by someone saying "Specs (or Details) in my signature", but when I look in their profile, there are no specs displayed, not to me at least. In some member's profiles, there's a blue "About me" tab on the right, next to "Activities". See il2crashesnfails' profile for an example. This is where I sometimes find system specs, or a short self description. In others' profiles, eg yours, there's no such tab. I wonder if you need to check, or uncheck some sort of privacy option to allow that to display? Or is there another area in 'Profile' that I haven't yet discovered? Edit: Or, does 'signature' refer to something other than profile? Edited May 2, 2019 by jaygee485 addition

The "Signature" is at the bottom of my post. However, it is possible that it doesn't show for some reason. (maybe I have fiddled with a Forum display setting I shouldn't have.... lol!) For the record my system is as follows.... Intel Coffee Lake i5 8400 Cpu @ 4.0Ghz | MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X GPU | Asus Prime Z370-A Motherboard | 16 GB DDR4 RAM @2400Hz | Windows 10 | and an Asus 24" 1920X1080 144Hz Monitor. Nice, but nothing special. I hope that helps! ? P.S. Look at the bottom of this post to see if a signature shows...... Having had a quick look at forum settings.... it could be that you don't have "View Signatures" enabled. Please see attached screenshot for explanation. Go to your profile, look under settings and check the signature box is enabled. Kind Regards, MDS1 1

Firstly, I couldn't find a 'settings' tab or button in my profile (or anywhere else), so I entered 'forum.il2sturmovik.com/settings/signature' in my browser to get there. Then I turned on the 'View Signatures' option, returned to this thread, and I still couldn't see your signature! Went back to settings, then noticed the 'Save' button. So all is now revealed, and it's only taken me two months to work it out, or I should say, to have it explained. (It's not the first time I've asked the question in the forum, but, the first time, noone replied.) BTW, I'm not the only one to have been mystified by the 'signature'. I once asked about this to a member in a PM conversation, and he said he was wondering about it also. 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 It is all very well people tiptoeing around being polite but it does not help you when you want feedback ?. I would agree that the music needs to be toned down a little. Not sure about jumping from 'Gaining flying speed on runway ' straight to 'cruising', I might have filmed the wheels leaving the ground at least before switching to the cruise footage. Seemed a little odd to put the mission briefing at the end instead of the beginning where it would be useful. What we saw was a Spit take off alone for no apparent reason then happen to meet a JU52 coming straight at him on an exact reciprocal course and identical altitude. He shoots it in passing and continues flying on his original course and we have no idea what happened about the escorts. I am not sure we ever saw the spit with more than 2 degrees of bank so it could almost have been footage of someone on autolevel for the whole video. I liked the footage of the 109s maneuvering above the Ju52 and I loved the footage of them flashing past the spit and the pilot watching them start to try to turn round behind him. The footage of the shooting was good and the Slo-Mo section was just right, not to long or too short but there seemed to be a disconcerting 'jump' between the last shot from the cockpit and the next shot of the JU52 starting to go out of control as if you missed out a couple of seconds. It is better to overlap by a few seconds, ie show the spits view of hitting the JU52 then show the external view of those hits as well before continuing with the crash, than to skip a few seconds. Try to make the tracking in the external shots smoother. It is not that easy with a mouse but it looks a lot better when you get it smooth. Pilots view shots with the pilots head stuck in a clamp unable to move sideways always look a bit arcadish like those games of the 90s that had that fixed view with only the view beyond the nose changing to save CPU. For that reason the early taxiing footage looked a bit weird but if you don't have TrackIr or a headtracker with 'lean' or 'slide' ability then all you can do is try not to stay in that viewpoint for too long each time. You can get away with longer shots when showing the gunsight view as that is more true to life. 1
[DBS]MDS1 Posted May 3, 2019 Author Posted May 3, 2019 Thank you Roblex for taking the time to review my video. I have a lot to learn, and that 2 minute track took me nearly eight hours to edit. Constructive, honest and unbiased critique is very helpful indeed, and your comments have been duly noted- with gratitude. As a side note I do have track IR, but you are right - it doesn't really look like it in that Clip. Here's to learning and improving! Thanks Buddy ?
