I did a lot of research for motion systems and tested a lot of different sim racing motion systems myself at the "Sim Racing Expo" at Nürburgring Germany. There are every year in September many different companies who sell motion systems dedicated for sim racing. ... My personal conclusion which I want to share is that there in NOT 1 optimal motion rig available which can simulate perfectly all genres at the same time ( General Aviation Flying, Aerobatics, Helicopters, Sim Racing ). If you want to do both sim racing and flight sims you need to know that you are doing compromises, which I do. If you want everything perfect you better have one sim dedicated for racing and another one for flying. Best regards Joe thank you for a reality check on this periphery hardware. I'm jealous that you have access and get to try out all of the current offerings at the expo. So, in your opinion, is Racing Cube a better fit for racing rather than flying? I've been researching (watching vids, reading specs) these platforms and so far Racing Cube is the only one that offers 10cm of Heave (lift), which I'd think would be an indispensable asset for simulating loss of airpressue, or turbulence in the air. And the racing motion I've seen for it is crazy dynamic. However, I haven't noticed much of the "suspension simulation" with it, i.e. with a 4 corner actuator rig it's a lot more pronounced than on a 3 pointer system like racing cube..
spitfirejoe Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Hello 99th moosya, oh no you got me wrong. I did not say that the racing cube is better for Sim racing than for flying. I personally never tested a race cube. I just said that I would guess that the race cube would be better for flight sims than racing. I think it is good especially for helicopters because you can simulate hoovering very well, especially due to a great yaw Axis while turning and due to a large heave movement. After testing some different motion concepts myself and owning one at home I have a small experience with that subject and try to analyse what I see and how I would expect it feels, but at the end of the day it is all personal preference because everybody reacts different to motion effects. Besides, it makes a GREAT DIFFERENCE how you tweak the motion profile inside the software. I have tested several d-box Motion systems myself and 2 were tweaked perfectly and felt great ( Virtual Racing Lounge in Germany/ and JCL from France ) and another one had some horrible motion profiles and moved like a swing boat in an amusement park ( Vesaro Simulation of GB ??), horrible experience for such a high priced simulator. Only because of bad software management. By the way I love the d-box actuators, one of the best actuators available on the market, but very expensive. My main statement was that it is very hard to construct a perfect motion system for an all in one solution for all different simulation genres.
spitfirejoe Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) Sorry for talking about Sim Racing a bit ( I just want to explain the different requirements for the different genres ) I just uploaded a short video to show and explain what I mean. I had my friend here last month to test my rig. For Sim Racing I like "iRacing" the most, because it has all laser scanned race tracks, great physics and Force Feedback. Due to the accurate laser scanning technology you have all original bumps, elevation changes, curb sizes and everything concerning the track in your software, which gets 100% accurately transferred to my Motion system. As you can see my Rig makes short, quick movements. Together with VR immersion that fits perfectly. The Rig moves fast with small movements because of small elevation changes, bumps, curbs and whatever. And of course especially because of the hard and stiff chassis of this McLaren F1 car. Important for me is fooling my brain and trying to tweak the SimTools profile as good as I expect a F1 car would feel ( of course I never drove one myself in real ). Very often I saw rigs moving too much, too soft or not optimised for the type of car or situation, for sure that feels wrong then. If you compare both my videos of the same Rig ( one flying IL-2 and the others racing iRacing ) you will understand why I said my Rig works perfectly for Sim Racing, but not perfectly for flying. For Sim Racing small movements with high acceleration, for flying the more movement you can get with smoothness the better and that is exactly what my Rig can't do that good. If I would have a bigger house and more money I would get another Motion Rig only optimised and dedicated for IL-2, but that is impossible right now. Edited April 3, 2019 by spitfirejoe

I’ve searched in the past and never really found anything suitable for flight on YouTube. With Jason’s announcement I searched again today and see the motion rigs have improved over the last couple of years but most/all of the commercial rigs are really geared toward racing and only move about thirty degrees from center or so. Is anyone making a consumer rig for flight which fits the bill yet? I recently purchased a Next Level Motion Platform V3 which I use in conjunction with VR and it is an absolute game changer! It is pretty basic but it can simulate lots of motion ranges. It is a seat only platform which I was worried it would feel weird but it is actually surprisingly realistic, it is pretty quiet and it has got a very quick and convincing acceleration when moving. Doesn't take much space and it is also pretty affordable (found it on Amazon on sale) which is a BIG plus in my book. Next Level Motion Platform V3 Edited April 3, 2019 by KastaRules 2

I've reached out to their engineering department to take a look at the IL2 published motion protocol feed, exchanged couple of e-mails with them, I think they're currently looking in to it...

I shall ask them too, so they'll see some interest in this title by their user base. Edited April 3, 2019 by KastaRules

Late on the topic, but I experimented one looong time ago in Paris, it was full or near 360° in both axes, can't remember the hardware details. Count about 20m3 though. And it was when I was about 13 or so... I'm 35 now.
KastaRules Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 The Next Level Motion Platform V3 now officially supports the IL-2 Great Battles series! I have been having a blast with it in the last few days !!!
IckyATLAS Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Okay. Finally it is there it exists. YESS !!!! How much? No I should not ask that question. Price doesn't matter. Someone made it. I just need to enlarge my house to put it in. I have to talk to my wife. ?
